Year 2012

"Agent Howlett, I have some news regarding Captain America." Director Fury says as he walks into the training area where Agent Widow and I are sparing. As soon as I hear Steve's name I freeze leaving myself open and finding Widow's fist in my stomach. "Oaf." I say as I grab my stomach. I quickly walk over to Fury and say, "Yes sir?" 

He folds his arms over his chest as he says, "Captain America has been located. He is on his way here now. I need you to follow me." 

I nod and say, "Yes sir." I wave to Widow as I follow Fury outside. When we are alone he briefs me on the situation and tells me that Steve has been frozen for the past seventy years. "Director Fury, I must ask you a question."

 "Yes Agent?"

 "What would you like me to do sir?" 

Fury walks over to the door and before leaving says, "I need you to help him readjust to life here in the 21st century." 

I nod as I say, "With all due respect sir, I do not want him to know my true identity, permission to use my code name?" 

"Permission granted." Then he leaves and I let out a huge sigh. 

"What am I going to do?" I feel someone around me and I automatically know who it is, "You do realize eavesdropping gets people killed."

I turn to see Agent Coulson standing behind me. "My apologies, Maddy." 

I shake my head as I say, "It's alright Phil. I guess you're excited to meet him." 

Phil nods and says, "I hope to get him to sign my collector's cards." 

I smile as I say, "He most likely will." I excuse myself and go to my room and start to change. I look in my mirror and say, "Goodbye miss Howlett and hello Honey Badger." I quickly change and make my way to the room where they are keeping Steve. 

As I open the door I look over to see a young girl dressed like she was from the forties sitting in a chair overlooking Steve. He is sprawled out on a bed fast asleep. Seeing him like this reminds me of the night he was fast asleep at my front door. I smile then I hear fury's voice in my head piece and I turn and walk out the door. "Honey Badger, we need you here at the front." 

"Yes sir." I say heading to the reception desk. As I reach the desk I hear the alarms go off and I see Steve running past me.

"What the hell?" I say as Fury and I head off after him. When Steve finally stops, Fury looks at me and tells me to stay put. I watch through the window of the SUV and find myself wanting to go to him. Fury and Steve walk back to the car and I straighten in my seat. "Captain Rogers this is Honey Badger. She will be helping you reinter society." He looks at me but doesn't seem to notice me. 

"Nice to meet you Captain." I say as I shake his hand. 

"Likewise Honey Badger." 

 As we made our way back to the building I kept glancing over at Steve to see if he recognized me. "A lot has happened since you've been asleep Cap." Fury said as we pulled up outside. 

 "I can see that." 

I look over at fury and say, "Sir, would you like me to escort Captain America up to his room?" 

Fury opens his door and steps out then turns to me and says, "Agent Honey Badger, please take the Captain to your house and get him settled."

 I freeze, "But Sir wouldn't the captain be more comfortable here?"

 "No Howlett that's an order." Then he slams the car door and I look over at Steve who is looking down at his hands. I start to panic and then take a deep breath as say, "Driver, take us to east Brooklyn please." 

Steve's head pops up as I finish. "You live in Brooklyn?" 

"Almost all my life." 

He smiles "Guess it's changed a lot since the forties." 

I smile and relax, "Not too much." I watch as he looks out the window. I follow his gaze to see him looking at a building very intently as we passed. I gasp as I realize the building is my old apartment complex and quickly look away. "So, Honey Badger? You gotta first name?" 

I look around and taking a deep breath say, "Addie, my name is Addie."

 He sits back in his seat as he says, "I like it better than Honey Badger. Do you mind if I ask how you got that name?" 

I smile as I say, "Honey Badgers are one of the most dangerous animals on the planet, and I happen to be one of the world's most deadly assassins' ergo Honey Badger." 

 He smiles as he says "You remind me of a friend I used to know. I wonder how she's doing." I stop myself from saying anything else by looking out the window. We drive the rest of the way in silence until we make it to Joe's Gym. "Thank you," I say as I open the door, step out, and hold it open for Steve. "You live here?" Steve says as he steps outside the car. I walk to the back of the car and effortlessly grab Steve's rucksack and throw it over my shoulder. "Yea, I kind of own it. My apartment is right above it. I have and extra room you can use." He turns toward me then freezes.

I feel a twinge of panic and I head toward my gym. I hear Steve's footsteps close behind me. "Here I can carry that." I stop and turn to hand him his bag and freeze when his face is inches from mine. His eyes widen as they look down into mine. Before he has a chance to say anything I toss him his bag and turn and head into the gym. "Yo Ms. H, what's shakin?" I hear Joey say as I make my way across the gym floor toward the stairs. Joey is my old friend Helens grandson, he knows all about my abilities. He runs my gym while S.H.I.E.L.D. has me on missions. He is very attractive with his emerald green eyes and dark brown hair. 

"Morning Joey." I say as I make it to the stairs. "Oh Joey, this is Steve Rogers; he's going to be using the spare room upstairs, anything he wants; it's on the house." 

Joey smiles as he waves at Steve, "You got it boss."

 I smile as I turn and head back up the stairs. I open the door to my apartment and walk to the spare bedroom. When I open the door the familiar scent of the 40's hits me like a wave. "This is your spare room?"

 I turn forgetting he's there and smile, "Yeah, I have a thing for the forties." 

He smiles and says, "I wanna thank you for allowing me to stay here Addie." 

I feel myself start to blush and I turn as I say, "No problem, now I'll let you get settled I have to make a few runs, if you need anything Joey will help you." He nods and I walk out closing the door.

I let out a sigh of relief as I walk to my room. When I open my door I see the familiar pictures hanging on my wall and smile. I walk over and pick up a picture that Howard had given me the day Anthony was born. It was a picture of him, Steve, and Bucky. I smile as I remember each of them. I set the picture back down and then it hits me. "What do I do if Steve sees this room?" I start to panic then mentally smack myself as I remember I can lock my door. I smile as I reach under my bed and pull out a briefcase that I had filled with pictures of Anthony or Tony as he liked to be called now. His life has definitely been exciting what with him inventing and piloting the 'Ironman' suit. A tear falls down my face as I realize how much he reminded me of Howard. I hear a knock on my door and quickly hide my suitcase of pictures under my bed. I wipe my tears away as I open the door just enough so he couldn't see my walls.

"Yes?" I see Steve running his hand through his hair as he says, "Do you mind bringing me back some personnel files, just so I can locate some past friends of mine." 

I nod as I say, "Of course Captain." 

He smiles then hands me a piece of paper. "Thank you again Addie." I smile and quickly lock my door as I head past him and down the stairs. 

When I made it to the front door I turn to see Steve talking with Joey and then I watch as Joey escorts him over to the punching bags. I momentarily find myself staring as he punches the bags. I quickly turn away when I notice Joey staring at me smiling. As I make my way down the street I have the sudden urge to see Howard's house. After calling a taxi and making my way through the busy Manhattan traffic I finally make it to Howard's house, I smile at the memories. After Howard and Maria's death Tony had turned the house into a museum. But the upstairs had been blocked off to the public. I quickly make my way through the crowd and sneak around to the back of the house. 

I use my ninja skills to scale the wall up to my balcony. Hopefully they hadn't locked the door; it didn't really matter either way. As I reach the balcony I look around to make sure I wasn't seen then smile. I walk over to my balcony door and open it smiling that it had been left unlocked. I gasp as I look around, not a single thing in my room had been changed. I start to cry as I walk over and lay down on my bed. Then I shoot up and look down at the floor remembering what I had hidden there. I quickly make my way over to my hidden space and open it to find a letter sitting on top of the letters and Bucky's flag. I pick it up and find myself dumfounded. There was no name on the cover of the envelope. I unfold the letter and a tears start to pour down my face as I read it,

Dearest Maddy,
If you are reading this then that means you have returned. I figured one day you would return for these letters and Bucky's flag. First I would like to tell you that it was not me who found these letters, it was our son. He used to tell me that he felt safe and loved when he was in this room. Do you know how hard it was for me to not tell him anything about you being his birth mother? Do you know what lies I had to tell my son when he opened and read all these letters? I never in my life wanted to lie to him. I'm sorry that you lost both men that loved you but why did you have to leave us? We would have had a beautiful life, and we would have figured out some way to tell Tony about your regenerating powers. Maddy I love you, always have and always will; I just wish you could've made a better decision. I never told Tony you were his birth mother, I told him you were my first love. One day the two of you can meet and you can tell him the truth. I love you Maddy I hope to maybe see you again one day.

The tears are pouring down my face when I hear my cell phone ring. I quickly wipe my eyes and clear my throat, "Agent Howlett," 

"Agent Howlett, I need you to come to helicarrier a.s.a.p." I gather up the letters, Bucky's flag and quickly place everything back the way it was. I take one last look at my room before I leave. I quickly make my way to the helicarrier. Before I meet with director Fury I go to my locker and place the letters and Bucky's flag inside it.
