Fact #33
"Moved in with a cousin, the cousin committed suicide." - George Washington's line, Alexander Hamilton
After Hamilton's mother, Rachel, died, "her sons were placed under the legal guardianship of their thirty-two-year-old first cousin Peter Lytton." - page 26 of Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow
But on July 16, 1769, "Peter Lytton was found dead in his bed, soaked in a pool of blood" (p26). He had either stabbed or shot himself. Maybe both.
In the musical, the choreography calls for an actor, standing on a chair, mimicking hanging himself when this line is said. Why does the choreography show something that didn't happen? I don't know. Less messy?
