chapter 12
Colby's pov:
Today was the day that we finally got to explore! I was surprisingly excited, it had been so long since we had all been exploring together. We had found this amazing abandoned building that looked like it used to be a mall or something. On the way to our exploring site, I had been laying on Sam's lap while Elton drove us all there. We had finally arrived and I was more energetic than usual! We all stepped out of the RV and looked out at the huge building. There were plenty of missing and broken windows, some of the doors were boarded up, it looked like it had been years since its been touched. Perfect for exploring. I was dressed in all black, as was everyone else, so we would blend in better with our darker surroundings. I had my knife in my back pocket, just in case things got rough, or other things. Elton and Sam had their cameras with them, of course for exploring we need the people to see this. They both started recording and quietly did their introductions.
"Alright, we need to find a way in first, but no one, and I mean no one, split off from the group. It's a new place, new people, new dangers. Got it?" Corey whispered loud enough for us all to hear. We all nodded, but I already knew I was going to split off eventually. I held onto the small go pro in my coat pocket, I needed to record my own perspective as well, who knows what I might see. We all started walking around the building, eventually finding a large broken window with a barrel below it, tipped over on the ground. We easily stepped on the barrel and hopped through the window. One by one we all hit the floor, littered with glass and debris. Elton and Sam resumed their recordings. W started wandering around the building, finding many disturbing things and many amazing things. We slowly made our way to a huge opening in the building, most likely the previous middle of the mall, but one thing made everyone go into a state of horrified shock. The empty space was partially filled by a pentagram made of rope, an empty noose hanging from the center.
"My god. Who would choose this place to do that.?" Sam whispered. Everyone nodded along except me. I kept seeing something I would never forget. I saw myself hanging from the noose. But I wasn't scared. I was calm. I felt a sense of release, like I could be free from this awful feeling. I felt someone grab my shoulder and snapped my head towards them. Corey had grabbed me, everyone had started to walk away, but he was the only one to notice I was zoned out.
"You ok? Please tell me you're not thinking about that again.." Corey whispered as we slowly walked to Sam and Elton. I just shook my head no, hoping it was convincing enough. He squeezed my shoulder in reassurance but I knew it was just fake. He just didn't want a death on his hands, but it wouldn't be on his, it would be on mine. We caught up with the others and continued to explore the ginormous building. We eventually made it to the roof, just in time to watch the sun set and let the darkness consume the land around everything. While they were all roaming the roof, all saying they wanted to stay there for a while, I took it as my chance to go on my own adventure. I quietly and quickly made my way down the small staircase, back into the hellish building. I walked for maybe a half an hour before finding anything remotely exciting. I had come across a group of sleeping bags, they looked brand new though. Like someone has been using these recently. I started to back away, not wanting to get caught by anybody, but I must have been crossing my fingers. I felt something touch my back, more like someone.
"What, are you doing near my stuff pretty boy?!" The man behind me said with a very rough voice.
"I swear to god I wasn't doing anything! I'm just exploring, I didn't mean to upset you! I'll just leave!" I said, trying to rush a bit. He grabbed my shoulder and squeezed, not letting me move away.
"I don't think you're going anywhere." He said before grabbing at my throat.
Sam's pov:
We were all sitting on the edge of the roof, just looking up at the stars, when all of a sudden we heard a scream. My blood started to go cold. I felt like I knew who that was, I just couldn't put a finger on it.
"Please tell me everyone else heard that.." I whispered. Elton and Corey both said 'yes' but Colby never responded. I looked over to where he was, or should have been. He was no where in sight.
"Where's Colby?!" I said, slowly getting louder. We all stood up and searched around the rooftop. He was no where to be found. We heard it again. The same scream, but more. My blood ran purely cold and I immediately got goosebumps.
"No please! Stop! I've done nothing!" The voice rang out. We all looked at each other and started running down the stairs. We were running for maybe five minutes before I found something on the ground that killed me. Drops of fresh blood led a trail up to a torn up XPLR hoodie. The same one Colby was wearing. We all started running once again, this time, following the growing blood trail. The trail had lead to a basement area, completely blacked out. I motioned for everyone to stop and listen for a minute. All you could hear was quiet sobs and gasps for air. I flashed my phones flashlight down the small set of stairs and found Colby's small go pro. My worst fear just caught me. I was wishing more than anything that it wasn't him, that it was just someone random. We started stepping down the stairs, flashlights out and Elton having his small switchblade out. I stopped as I heard quick steps and a door opening. Whoever else was down there just left, not wanting to be seen. We finally got to the bottom of the stairs, not seeing anything but the continuing blood trail and more horrifying thoughts. Colby's shirt, now littered with holes and covered in blood was thrown on the floor. I followed the trail and the small sounds of sobbing until I found what we were looking for. There, in a puddle of blood, lay Colby, covered in blood and wounds. His pants looked like they had been yanked down and torn up. He was in hell.
"COLBY!" I screamed and we all ran up to him. He snapped his head up and backed up to the wall as we got closer. He wouldn't say a word other that small whimpers and sobs. I got on my knees and held my hand out to him. He looked me up and down and attempted to scoot closer, but immediately stopped and cried out.
"Elton. Call the police, get an ambulance. HURRY!" I screamed. Elton just nodded as Corey helped me lift him into my arms.
"You're gonna be ok Colbs! I promise, you'll be ok!" I said trying to calm him down and partially to calm me down.
"I can't... He... I can't..." He tried whispering, but started to go in and out of consciousness, eventually letting his body go fully limp. We started running out of the building, finding the same window and getting out of there as fast as we could. We sat on the curb as an ambulance pulled up and immediately grabbed Colby, putting on a stretcher and hauling him into the ambulance. They had told us to follow them to the hospital, so as fast as we could, we got in the RV and rushed to the nearest hospital.
