No Country for Old Mentors

Lindsey's POV

'I left because I was scared of Lindsey.'

Thats the only thought that ran through my head. I couldn't stop thinking about it.

My father thought I was scary and didn't bother to give me a chance to learn. He gave up on me.

It's been a few days since I listened to their conversation and the only time I left my room was to go to school. My behavior and mood hasn't changed because I don't want Phoebe, Cherry, Max, or any of the Thunderman's to worry about me. This is my life and I don't want them to get involved in some stupid problem I'm dealing with.

Max has texted me to hang out, along with Phoebe and Cherry but I denied them because of 'sickness' but I was lying to them.

The night my brother and father had their conversation, I did something I didn't think I would do again. I didn't go out and vandalize the city, I'm not that anger. I'm more upset and sad, then angry.

I found my old knife I stashed away from many years ago and cut my arm a few times. I'm so disappointed in myself for doing it again, but I couldn't help it. The relief I feel from doing it helps the pain even if what I'm doing it dangerous.

Since then, I've been cutting three times a day and I haven't been able to stop. I want too but I can't.

When going to school, I wear long sleeve shirts and put makeup on my arms to cover them up better.

I used to cut all the time back in New York when I was with Koh and Lexi. They made me feel worthless if I couldn't smash or break something. I hated it and now I'm right back to where I was before.

Ring Ring

I quickly covered my arms and answered the call. Super President Kickbutt was calling.

"Hello, Lindsey, I have important news for you and Phoebe." She informed me.

"What is it?" I asked her.

"The Hero League has decided its time to take your next big superhero step." She declared smiling. "You and Phoebe have been excepted into our mentor program." I smiled widely at this as she talked. "I'm sending over a list of approved superheroes who can take you under their wing and teach you everything they know. Since, I'm in a good mood, you and Phoebe can choose to have the same mentor or choose a different one. Choose one and report back. President Kickbutt out!"

The call ended and I clapped happily. I picked up my tablet and scrolled through the list of mentors I could have.

There are so many great superheroes on here that it's so difficult to choose, but I have a favorite. Tech Rider.

He has so many awesome gadgets and not to mention the amount of saves he has. I've always wanted to ride on his super cycle, it would make Max so jealous. Riding the bike of course, not hanging out with a hot superhero.

I texted Phoebe and told her about the mentor I picked and she informed what happened. She wanted to pick Tech Rider but she was pressured to pick her father instead. I felt bad for her, but it's sweet that she picked her father even if she didn't want too.

I called President Kickbutt back and told her the mentor I picked. She accepted my request and I now have Tech Rider as my mentor.

——

The next day, I went over the Thunderman's house to inform the twins of my mentor.

"Lindsey!" Phoebe smiled and she came up to me with Max behind her. "Did you meet Tech Rider yet?"

"I'm meeting with him today." I grinned. "I can't wait to start."

"I wished I picked Tech Rider." Phoebe pouted and I rubbed her arm.

"Don't feel bad, you have your dad." I assured her and she rolled her eyes.

Max pushed passed his sister and wrapped an arm around me. He wants something.

"So, Lindsey, my beautiful, amazing, adorable-"

"No, you can't ride his super cycle." I denied him with a smug smile and removed his arm. "Only mentees can ride the cycle."

Max pouted and I averted my eyes because his puppy dog eyes are irresistible.

"Please!" He pleaded and wrapped me in his arms. "I won't ask for anything else."

"That's a lie." I chuckled. "And I'm sorry but I can't."

Max groaned and let me go. "Fine."

I giggled at his pouty face before turning to the door.

"I gotta go meet Tech Rider." I told them. "Have fun with Thunderman."

Phoebe sent me a playful glare before I left the house.

——

Yesterday was tiring but it was a blast. We took down a bunch of bank robbers and saved a bunch of people. Tech Rider is awesome and we get along great, it's a shame I'm taken.

Kidding. I adore Maxie.

Tech Rider is a bit egotistical and jokes around a lot, but there is a reason he was on the list of superheroes.

Today, I was with Tech Rider on his bike and we were riding to the Thunderman's house. I was in my super suit because why not. Phoebe called Kickbutt and changed her mind about the mentor thing. I was disappointed in her for doing this and throwing her dad under the bus like that, but I can't really say I blame her.

Speeding into the driveway, Tech Rider parked his bike without hitting Hank and Phoebe thankfully.

I removed my helmet and waved at my friend and Hank.

"Hey guys." I greeted and Tech Rider removed his helmet.

"Heard somebody needs a new mentor?" He smirked and Phoebe was trying not to smile.

"Tech Rider?" Hank asked confused.

"That's how it gets better." Phoebe smiled.

I got off the bike along with Tech Rider who checked his bike out and cleaned it a bit.

"So you called President Kickbutt and had me replaced with this pimply faced kid?" Hank asked and I chuckled.

What? His skin is flawless.

"Dad, he has perfect skin." Phoebe reasons.

"Let me see what I want to see." Hank spoke with a defensive voice.

"The Hero League said that this mentorship program is supposed to be for on the job training, not on the driveway training." Phoebe explained.

"So, you think you're ready to zip off to Metroburg on this-"

"Super cycle!"

Scaring Tech Rider, Max popped in amazed by the bike and Tech Rider blasted him with a sound pulse and he fell to the ground.

Once again, I felt sharp pain in my body and I quietly groaned to myself. Why does that keep happening?

"Sorry, Buddy." Tech Rider apologized and I went over to my boyfriend. "Nobody goes near the super cycle."

Max sat up and I combed his hair softly. "It's okay, seeing it from the ground with a slight head wound is just as rewarding."

I helped Max up off the ground and Tech Rider went up to Hank.

"Thunderman! It is an honor to meet you." He greeted, shaking his hand. "I was actually lucky to be at your retirement ceremony in Metroburg."

Phoebe turned to her dad and pulled him away. "See dad, he's not so bad. He's a fan."

"Are you okay?" I asked Max and he nodded. He eyed my suit and smirked.

"I am now, darling."

I blushed a fiery red color and looked away. I went up to the others to ignore the feeling he gave me.

"Yeah! My folks said I slept through he whole thing in my stroller but hey, I was there right?" Teach Rider mentioned and put his arm up. "May I?"

"May what?" Hank asked confused.

"Drone selfie!" Tech Rider smiled and made a small drone pop out and snap a selfie of us.

He does that every few minutes and it does bug me, especially when we are right in the middle of a fight.

"So, Hero League tells me you've costed them a fortune mopping up the aftermath of your reckless behavior." Hank remarked.

"Sometimes you gotta destroy a whole city to save it." Tech Rider told him. "You know what I'm saying?"

"No."

Tech Rider laughed, "You are a riot, T-Man. I'm gonna have my people send you some swag."

Phoebe and I went over to the bike and Phoebe loved it.

"I can't wait to ride this." She smiled at me.

I returned the smile before hearing Hank speak.

"Listen, kid. Sorry you came all this way on your little scooter with Lindsey, but after this little show I'm sure my daughter's changed her mind about all this Tech nonsense." Hank explains to Tech Rider with an arm around his shoulder. "And I wouldn't be surprised if Lindsey changed hers too."

To Hank's dismay, Phoebe was all ready to leave on the bike.

"Oh, what's a nano stun grenade?" Phoebe asked and I opened my mouth to stop her but she already pressed the button. From the bike, a small metal ball rolled out and over to Max.

"Aw! What a cute little marble!" Max smiled and I bit my lip.

Oh no...

The grenade activated and flashed a bright light and stunned Max. The pain I felt that time wasn't as bad but I still felt it.

Tech Rider laughed at this. "Stunned him! Good one, rookie!" Tech Rider got on the bike in front of Phoebe and I. Good thing this bike takes three people at once. "Let's go rack up some saves in Metroburg."

"You good, babe?" I asked my boyfriend and he gave me a thumbs up.

"Bye, T-Man." Phoebe told her dad who looked angry with her.

The three of us took off on the bike and headed to Metroburg.

——

We arrived in Metroburg later that day and drove to the prison. Phoebe and Tech Rider were in their super suits and we were ready to kick butt.

"That was awesome!" Tech Rider exclaimed. "Right, Girls?!"

He turned to me and gave me a hi-five and we looked back to see Phoebe was missing.

"Phoebe!" We both called, looking around.

Suddenly, Phoebe came running in panting heavily.

I got off, removing my helmet as Phoebe approached us.

"Next time you do a wheelie, can I get a little heads up? I'll hold on tighter." Phoebe asked, out of breath.

"Learning lessons. Up top!" Tech Rider cheered raising his hand in the air.

"I'd hi-five you but my hands are full of gravel." Phoebe opened her palm and gravel fell out.

"Lindsey has you covered!" He cheered and hi-fived me. "Woo! Alrighty, looks like it's your lucky day rookie. We have got a big first miss!" He lowered his voice. "That is what I call missions it saves time."

"Aye, learning from my ment!" She smiled.

"Huh?" He said with confusion.

"Mentor!" She informed. "I was just saving time."

"Now we are wasting time." I pointed out.

"Linds is right! Alright, according to the Hero League, we have got a prison break going down. Let's do this! Woo!" Tech Rider cheered and blasted the door open before running inside.

"Wait, shouldn't we have a plan-"

"No, he doesn't do plans." I cut her off. "Not his thing."

"Unless he tells us inside?" She asked and I shrugged. We both put on our masks and ran in.

'Warning! Escape attempt in progress!'

The three of us ran in and saw some guards trying hold the doors close so the prisoners wouldn't escape.

"Alright, lets assess the situation-"

"Assess this." Tech Rider cit Phoebe off. "I'm gonna hit that thing with a sonic plus!"

"Wait!" Phoebe and I tried to stop him but it was too late. He hit the guards which caused the door to close and an eerie and weird noise echoed throughout the prison.

"You hear that?" I asked Tech Rider.

"Yeah I do, that's the sound of me saving everyone's butt!" He chuckled.

"Not quite. This place is made out of Thundertanium, it's indescribable but it also amplifies sonic waves and-"

Before Phoebe could finish, a large sonic wave attacked us and we fell to the ground.

"That will happen."

We all stood up and I heard multiple stuff unlock. Oh no, the cells unlocked.

"The doors!" Phoebe and I whispered with panic.

All of the doors opened and the prisoners walked out.

"Alright, mentor pop quiz!" Tech Rider pulled us aside. "Twelve extremely shady prisoners staring you down, what do you do? By the way! This is a time sensitive quiz!"

Phoebe and I looked at one another and nodded.

"We do this!"

Phoebe and I hopped onto the table and she hopped to the ladder. Once the prisoners ran forward, I used my ice manipulation and she used her freeze breath to cause the prisoners to slip and fall.

I flipped off the table and froze all the prisoners that were on the ground.

"Now that's a twelve car pile up." Phoebe smiled and we hi-fived.

I heard Tech Rider laugh and came up to us.

"Oh! I just mentored it up! Drone selfie!"

He took another selfie and ran out.

I regret picking him now and I think Phoebe does too.

We left the prison and went up to Tech Rider.

"What was that?" I asked him with my hands on my hips.

"I taught you both how to go from zero to awesome in 2.8 seconds. Up top!" Tech Rider beamed, raising his hand.

"When we got here there was one bad guy trying to escape but thanks to your 2.8 seconds we had to step in and capture twelve." Phoebe reasoned.

Tech Rider sighed. "I'm not gonna lie, rookies. You both were amazing in there. Which means I am a incredible mentor."

He's really starting to tick me off. He's worse then Max, who is very egotistical, but not this bad.

"Now! Hop on!" Tech Rider exclaimed, patting the cycle. "Because I feel like doing a victory wheelie. Tech Ride!"

"Not happening." I denied, putting on my helmet and Phoebe did to.

"Yeah, we're going home." She agreed, "this was a mistake."

"And you can hop on." I suggested to Tech Rider as I got on the front with Phoebe behind me. "I'm in front now."

The bike suddenly turned on and my eyes went wide.

"Uh..."

"Did you turn this thing on?" Phoebe asked Tech Rider before the engine turned on and the bike took off.

"Woahhhhhh!"

The bike speed down the highway.

"Ahhhhhhhh!"

"Why won't it stop!?" I asked. "Super Cycle, I demand you to turn left!"

The bike made a sharp right turn and I yelped.

"Or right!"

"My face is turning inside out!" Phoebe yelled and I screamed with fear.

Up ahead there was a cliff and I gasped.

"We're heading for that cliff!" We both yelled and the bike drove off the side of the cliff.

We both yelled as we fell but we both stopped when we felt someone caught us.

We looked up and saw Hank had saved us. We both hugged him as he brought us back to the ground.

"Thanks so much, Hank." I hugged him and Phoebe did too.

"Dad! Thank you!"

I painted heavily and was confused.

"How did you know?"

"And where did you come from?" Phoebe added.

"I've been keeping an eye on you two." He admitted. I removed my helmet and let my hair fall out. "Not because I don't trust you. I didn't trust Tech Rider."

"You were right. He is reckless." Phoebe confessed and I nodded. "I was just so caught up in his super cycle and his super gadgets and his super smooth skin."

I nodded at that part. Very smooth.

"I hate to admit it but his skin does glow." Hank told us.

"Dad, I never should have replaced you. I'm sorry." Phoebe apologized.

"I understand my methods can be old fashioned." Hank mentioned.

"Are you kidding me? Linds and I used everything you taught me at the prison and that's what saved the day." Phoebe smiled. "I can't wait for our next lesson."

"Are you saying you want me to be your mentor again?" Hank asked his daughter with hope.

"I'm saying today made me realize a mentor is person you look up too and learn from. That person's always been you." Phoebe explained. "So, can I call President Kickbutt and make it official? Again."

"Nothing would make me prouder." Hank said with his voice cracking and they hugged.

"So..." I began and they looked at me. "I still need a mentor. Will you be willing to mentor me?"

"Of course, Lindsey. I would love to mentor my future daughter-in-law."

I giggled at this and we hugged.

Suddenly, Max and Chloe appeared and I rolled my eyes.

What did he do now?

"Perfect, Chloe! Now, I think the super cycle disappeared from my radar somewhere around-"

"Speaking off of being proud." Hank said, scaring Max and making him turn to us, alarmed.

"Oh! Hey, guys!" He greeted. "Chloe and I were just leaving. Quick, home, Chloe!"

"This is for stealing my batteries!" She glared at her older brother before teleporting away.

Max turned to us with a cute grin. "Any chance, you three saw a run away motorcycle around here?"

"Go ahead, I'll stay with him." I told Hank and Phoebe.

"Thunderman Away!" They both yelled before Hank flew away with Phoebe.

"I guess we're walking." Max sighed.

"Or..." I grabbed his arm and pulled him to me. "We can stay here for a bit?

Max knew what I thinking and pulled me to his body with a smirk. I wrapped my arms around his neck and we were about to kiss.

"On your left!"

We looked to see Tech Rider fast walking by us and we gave him a weird look before Max and I connected our lips.

Perfect way to end my day.

Skipping Date Expectations. I don't need a reason, I think it's obvious, haha. He Got Game Night, I'm thinking of modifying it a little and putting a surprise in it. Can't wait for that haha.

Hopefully, these next chapters will be longer. These last few ones have been shorter which would explain why I have been writing them so fast. So, I'll try to make them longer for you all.
