Chapter 35: Enough is Enough

"...Get back to Eichen, Lorraine"  Brunski's voice is heard on the boombox again.

"No.  No.  I don't think you're gonna be taking me anywhere."  Lorraine protests.

"That's it.  That's where it is.  Play it again and turn it up."  Malia says to Stiles.

Stiles does as she says and rewinds the tape, turning the volume up louder.

"No.  No.  I don't think you're gonna be taking me anywhere.  I can hear the recorder in your pocket.  It's on now, isn't it? You're making a tape.  Just like you taped the others."

Malia starts to hear the faint sound of a needle scratching.

"It's the record player."  She gasps and stands up.

"What record player?" Stiles asks.

"The one in the lake house, in the study."  She says, pacing the room a little.

"So she escaped from Eichen House to go back to listen to a record player?"  He asks, incredulous.

"Well, she was like Lydia, right? She was a Banshee?" She asks.

"Yeah, but only once.  She predicted Maddy's death and then just spent decades trying to predict something else."  He says.

"Maybe she finally did." Malia stops as she realizes.

"And what if this time, it wasn't just one death, it was a lot of deaths?"  She asks.

"Like the dead pool."  He starts to catch on.

"What if all those years ago, Lorraine predicted it? And she knew there was something in the study that could stop it?"  She states.

Stiles snaps his fingers and grabs for his cell, "Then we're going to the lake house."  He declares.

Chris begins to set up motion detectors all around the building.  Scott and Josie stood by the windows, keeping a sharp eye out.  Josie looks over to the people around her.  Huddling together.  Talking softly.  Scott takes her hand into his and they walk by Braedon loading her gun.  Kira getting her sword ready.  They stopped in front of Derek as he looks over to the others.  Scott and Josie could see the worry in his eyes.

"They'll be okay."  Scott says.

"They've got claws and fangs.  But they're not fighters."  Derek walks over to Braedon.

"That's why I called you."  Scott says.

"Well, try to remember I don't have claws and fangs anymore either."  Derek says sarcastically.

"That's why he called me."  Braedon says.

"Am I the only one still hoping this is all just a false alarm? I mean, it's possible we could wait here all night and nothing happens.  Right?" Kira says, trying to stay positive, but she was scared to death.

Josie sighs and looks at everyone.  They all had the same look of doubt as well.

"Scott, you heard anything from Stiles or Lydia yet?"  Braedon asks.

"Lydia's still talking to Meredith."  Scott says.

"Stiles and Malia are headed to the lake house.  They're trying to stop it."  Josie says.

"What if there is no stopping it? What if it doesn't end until we're all dead?" Brett suddenly speaks up.

No one said anything till Derek spoke up.

"Then let's send a message." He moves to stand in front of everyone.  "Let's make something perfectly clear to anyone with a copy of that list.  It doesn't matter if they're professional assassins, hunters, or an amateur who just picked up a gun.  Anyone who thinks they can hunt and kill us for money, is gonna be put on another list.  Our list.  They get to be a name on our dead pool."

Braedon cocks her gun.

Josie nods, "He's right.  We can't let them beat us."  She suddenly notices the barrels around the building.  She smirks.  "I got an idea."  She moves quickly towards one barrel and struggles to move it to a part of the room.  Lori comes over and helps her move it.  Josie gives her a smile and Lori returns one.  "Everyone grab a barrel,  put it in a certain part of the building."

Everyone helped out.  Dragging the barrels into the corners and some were in the middle of the room.

Josie sighs, "They might have weapons, but we have something they're not expecting and we can use that for our advantage."

"What exactly do we have?"  One female werewolf asks.

"We have an elemental." Satomi smirks and walks closer to Josie.  "Brett told me this pack had one.  I knew I recognized that scent.  Never thought I would ever meet another in my entire life.  Especially one with all elements."

"If you're talking about John.  I'm nothing like my dad." She says.

Satomi nods, "I can see your pure soul.  You're a good person, Josie Thompson.  It'll be my honor to fight next to you."

Josie smiles and turns to everyone, "Back away from the barrels."  She says.  Everyone does as she says.   Josie takes a deep breath and calls the fire.  Josie throws her hands forwards with a loud grunt and all the barrels exploded fire.  The werewolves gasps and back away further.  Josie forces the fire down to a dim and smiles.  She looks over her shoulder at Chris, "Mind if I give this place a woman's touch?"

Chris laughs, "Be my guest."

Josie calls for help of the earth and pretty soon vines start to crawl over the walls.  She looks over to the other side and roots start to surround the property.  Scott smiles and looks around.

"Stiles was right.  I am like Poison Ivy."  She laughs. "The assassins don't know I'm an elemental.  Meredith never told them. And they never did their homework on me.  She only knew I was Scott's mate and that means Scott's death."

"Why didn't they know?  A banshee always knows." Braedon asks.

"And a hunter always stalks their prey before striking." Chris says.  "A hunter going after a human...that's just monstrous."

No one could answer the questions.

"What about wind?"  Kira asks.

"Well, the windows are still busted after the encounter with Kate.  So, no trouble there.  Water...there's gotta be a fire safety sprinkler system, right?"  Josie asks.

"Not much.  But, it might just be enough." Chris says.

"It'll be enough.  We'll be ready."  Josie says.

"Her? That's the girl that stole my money?" Peter asks in disbelief as he looks at Meredith through the two way mirror as she sits in the interrogation room.

"That girl is a Banshee.  They're more dangerous than you think."  Lydia says.

"Oh, I think that girl's pilot light went out a long time ago."  Peter scoffs.  "Sheriff, not to question the unquestionably sterling reputation of your department, but are you absolutely sure you got the one?"  Peter says sarcastically.

"How about you just go in there and see what she has to say?"  Sheriff says bitterly.

Peter sighs deeply and goes into the room to sit in the chair in front of Meredith.

"Okay...Meredith, where's my money? Or more correctly, what's left of it."  Peter says.

Meredith tilts her head, looking at Peter with curiosity.  She slowly and hesitantly reaches up to stroke his cheek.  He snatches her wrist and pulls her touch away.

"Let her go.  Let her go."  Parrish says.

Peter slowly lets her go and Meredith pulls her hand away, still looking at Peter with the same curious expression.

"Why did you do that?"  He says, so many emotions going through him.

"They're all gone."  Meredith says with slight amazement.

"Oh, my God.  They have met before."  Lydia gasps.

"The burns.  They're all gone." Meredith says.

Peter's eyes mist and widen at what she said.  She met him after the fire.
