Chapter 27: Josie's Story
A few days passed since that day at school. When Stiles lost Malia, when she left. He couldn't sleep, all he could think was about her next to him. Spooning with her in bed like always. He wouldn't even mind feeling her arms wrapped around him, being in charge. He just wanted her back.
Scott and Josie were at the Sheriff's station, waiting for Rafe to get done with packing his gun and bullets into the evidence bags and confirming his statement on a voice recorder on his phone. Scott holds Josie close to him, stroking her hair and breathing in her scent. After that night, when their fate was tested, he never wanted to let her go. He wanted to keep her safe in his arms forever. Josie snuggles deep into his chest, relief filled her core. Being in Scott's arms was like being close to heaven. She never wanted to let go.
The next night after that incident at school, Sarah and Josie, including Fizgig, went to the McCall's for dinner, despite what has happened, Rafe wanted them to have one dinner together before he goes back to San Francisco. Josie made her famous cookies, she knew they were expecting cupcakes, but she decided to show off some of her skills with cookies and her jalapeño popper spread with toasted crackers. Melissa wasn't too keen about Fizgig being there, but Scott told her that Josie didn't want to leave him alone, with the deadpool and all. That was true. Now, with the deadpool going on, Josie takes Fizgig to Deaton's to be safe. Josie sat next to Scott, Melissa next to Sarah and Rafe sat at the end of the table. It was nice to have a normal day with the family. They laughed, they ate, Rafe asked questions about Josie and Scott's future. Josie shared recipes with Melissa and Sarah really got along with Rafe. Melissa and her were already practically best friends. Scott reaches under the table and takes Josie's hand in his, smiling at her with such love in his eyes. Josie blushes and gives his hand a small squeeze. Melissa cooed at the two of them and teased them with how cute they looked. Sarah smiled warmly at the sight of her daughter next to Scott. She remembers how it was with John, they were that much in love. Then he changed. She just prays to god that would never happen to her daughter. Fizgig would come to the table a few times for scraps, he even sat up and begged at Melissa give him a piece of chicken. Melissa laughs at how cute he was and gave him a piece. Fizgig barks happily and goes back to sit on the floor. Scott walked them to their car and when Sarah got in, her eyes widen when Scott kisses Josie. Josie smiles big and gets into the car after Scott helps her in. As Scott walks back to the house, he could hear them in the car.
"Hope to god you're being safe." Sarah frowns.
"Mom!" Josie exclaims, embarrassed.
Scott chuckles and goes back into the house.
Back at the office, Scott listens closely to what his dad is saying,
"Preliminary notes on firearm discharge incident. Assailant armed with sound-suppressor equipped Walther P88...Having heard the perpetrator's threat and countdown, I made visual confirmation of the barrel of the weapon pressed to the potential victim's head. Determining the danger to be imminent, I felt no other choice but to respond with the use of deadly force." He records his statement then gets up and comes out of the office to see Scott and Josie.
"Thanks for waiting. I know it's late."
"It's okay. It's not like I'm going to be going to school tomorrow anyway." Scott waves it off. Which was true. School was going to be closed after what happened.
"Unfortunately, I'm going to have to drive back to San Francisco tonight. I'll need to do a review at the field office. But I'll be back as soon as I can. I might have to miss the first game of the season." Rafe had a look of disappointment on his face.
"It's no big deal." Scott shakes his head.
"It is to me. I'm keeping my promises this time." Rafe says determinedly.
Scott nods and Josie looks down at the gun, the flash back of Simon's face runs through her head. The gun against Stiles' head.
Rafe gives her an uncomfortable look, "What I did, it was necessary. Justifiable. You know that, right?" He asks, signing to her.
"Have you done it before?" She asks.
Rafe nods, "Two other times. It's not easy, taking a man's life, even someone who forces you to do it."
Josie sighs, "I know you had no choice. If it wasn't for you, Stiles wouldn't be here. Stiles protected me. That bullet was meant for me but Stiles wouldn't let him." She swallows a hard lump.
Rafe places a hand on her shoulder, Scott resisted the urge to growl at his own father for touching her, "It's over now." Rafe says.
"How do you deal with it?" Scott asks.
"You look at it logically. Without emotion. You compartmentalize." Rafe turns to Scott.
"How do you do that?" Scott asks.
"I used to do it by drinking." Rafe chuckles dryly.
Scott remembers, Rafe pull Scott into a hug and Josie too. As he pulls away, he looks straight at Scott, "One more thing. When I do come back, we have to talk about some stuff. You and your friends, the way you guys handle things, it doesn't seem to faze you like it should. It's like you guys know something I don't. When I come back, I'd like to be in the know." He says. Scott panicked inside but nodded.
Scott gave Josie a lift home and when Josie gives him the helmet back, she turns and faces him, "Are you going to let your dad in...in all this?" She asks.
Scott sighs deeply and thinks about it, "I honestly don't know. I'm tired of lying to everyone. But, his reaction might not be the best. I mean, when my mom found out, it was against my will. I wanted to tell her myself, but I was forced to show her what I was." He says.
"How did she react?" She asks.
Scott remembers the horrific look on his mom's face when she saw him in his wolf form, how scared she was of him since then, "She was afraid of me."
Josie sighs sadly and places a hand on his, "But she's not anymore."
He nods, "It took time for her to get use to it, but she finally accepted the world I lived in."
Josie smiles softly and leans in to kiss him gently, but Scott wanted more, he pulls her closer against him and kisses her with love and passion. Sighing softly as the kiss breaks, Josie pulls away and bites on her bottom lip. "Night, wolfman."
"Night, air bender." He says.

The next morning, Scott texted Josie to let her know there will be a pack meeting at 2:00 and he wanted her there. She texted back that she will be there, but she had to make a quick stop.
Sighing deeply, Josie lifts a hand up and knocks on the door of the Tate household.
A man in his early 40s maybe answered the door.
"Hi, can I help you?" He asks.
"Hi, Mr. Tate I presume?" She asks.
"Yes, who are you?"
"I'm Josie Thompson, I'm a friend of Malia's. I was just wondering if she was here?" She asks.
"Um, yeah, she's in her room, but she's been upset lately. I'm not sure if she want's any company." He says.
"Please? I know she's upset and I wanted to come and talk to her about it." Josie begs.
Mr. Tate sighs, but nods, and lets her in.
"Oh, here. Better get one now before Malia eats them all." She holds out a tupperware for him. He takes a cupcake and mutters thanks.
"Her room is at the end of the hall." He says.
"Thank you." She says and slowly makes her way to Malia's room.
Before she could knock, Malia thrusts opens the door and stares down at her angrily.
"Ok, I know you're mad. But, I'm innocent here. I didn't know, ok? I swear they never told me. You believe me, right?" Josie asks, with her hand up in surrender.
Malia sighs angrily, but from the sound of her heart beat, she was telling the truth, "Fine. Come on." She beckons Josie to come in the room.
"Thanks. And here." She holds up the cupcakes. "Peace?" She asks.
Malia couldn't help but laugh, "Peace." She takes a cupcake and smiles.
"How could Stiles lie to me like that?" She says as they sit in her room and eat cupcakes. Malia was on her third.
"I don't think he lied, he just didn't tell you. I don't know anything about Peter, but from first meeting him, even I thought he was dick." Josie says.
"Still, he kept the truth from me. I deserve to know who I'm related to!" Malia growls out.
"I think Stiles was afraid of losing you to Peter. You now know your biological father who apparently they describe as a homicidal killer." Josie points out.
"I...I want answers. If I'm Peter's daughter, then the Tates aren't my family. My real mom might be out there." Malia sighs. "You just don't understand."
Josie scoffs, "I don't understand? Ha! I got news for you, sweetie, you're not the only one with a homicidal father."
"What?" Malia asks, confused.
Josie sighs bitterly, "While other dads were playing dollies with their daughters or going to father-daughter dances, mine beat me and got drunk every night. Night after night after night, I would come home to yelling and screaming and slapping. Then, one night, my dad tried to kill my mom."
Malia's jaw drop as her eyes widen.
"But, I shot him. I could have let him live, but I hated him so much for all the pain he caused us." Josie stands up and shows her the scar. "A little present from Daddy Dearest before he finally croaked." Josie says bitterly. "Don't you ever say I don't understand about family issues like this."
Malia couldn't say anything. She couldn't believe it. Josie slowly sits down and neither of them talked for a few minutes, "Peter and your dad should get together and go to a game."
Josie bursts into a fit of giggles, Malia joins in till they were both laughing hard till they clutched their sides.
After they calmed down, Malia gets up and gives Josie a surprise hug and Josie returns it.
She pulls away and sits back down, "Thanks, Jo." Malia says.
"Anytime. Promise me you'll talk to Stiles?" Josie asks.
Malia groans, "Please? He hasn't slept right since you left. He misses you." Josie adds.
Malia sighs, "Fine, but I wanna find answers first. Just give me time." She says.
Josie nods, "Ok." Josie was relieved that was over, now to the meeting...
