The Street Shadow
BARIAN'S POV
The silver ball in the midnight sky shined among the stars lightening the nature all around me as I walked on the street. As usual, I was seeking a prey since it has been nearly a week without any food for me. I was actually busy sitting beside my sick girlfriend who has got tuberculosis lately. It is my duty to take care of her since her parents are already dead ages ago and if something ever happens to her due to my carelessness, I would never forgive myself for it.
Making up my mind, I started taking my steps slowly as I sensed a nearby presence. Excitedly, I stopped near one of the alleys where I sensed a human presence there.
“Oh, look at the charming Prince!,” said a man with a black beard and a muscular body. Yes, definitely that was a thug. And here comes 3 more men from his gang.
“Why are you not replying to me, huh? Are you deaf?!” said another man with a tattoo on his left arm, his accent was different though, that was barbaric and his voice was too loud; I guess he was irritated by my silence. Humans are intersting, I giggled mockingly.
“Huh?! What do you mean by that, motherfucker?!”
“Let us show him some manners!” said the two men from the gang in unison as they took out pocketknives coming at me with their full force.
Hmm, intresting... Using my hand, I blocked them both each with a hand. Grabbing their hands feircly, It didn't take me much time to bend it within a second, flicking their bones with a cracking sound. Not to forget mentioning how they suddenly shrieked begging for forgiveness. The third person in the gang ran into the alleyway. Yes, that was what is called as Betrayal. Dismissing their hands, I kicked them both away. Perfectly, it was more than a kick to them. And yet, no body could ever match with my power. I took my steps into the alleyway after the running man. Since I knew the city as the back of my hand, I knew there would be a dead end by the end of the alleyway. I smirked evilly with a brief eye contact with him, and so does his life. And nothing could ever be heard other than a piercing scream through the silence of midnight.
Vanishing into the night, leaving behind nothing but a corpse. Who betrays deserves to die. I thought nostaligically remembering a drastic past full of a blend of disordered painful memories before it happened.......

"What would you like to eat today?" Asked a brown-haired woman with hazel eyes whom she was once defined as my girlfriend.
"The usual~" I replied winking back at her. I bet there would be no choice about food for me.
The woman unusually tired coughing violently catching my attention, "Are you alright?!"
Looking back at me, she smiled, but that seemed more like a halfhearted smile, "Yes, I am. You shouldn't be worried much about me."
I still couldn't rest easy upon her response, specially when I smelled a weird scent. In the end, she is the one who has accepted me as who I am. She accepted me with my faults and bad side. She accepted my attitude and my difference in being from her. This is what made me fall for her....
.
.
.
"Idiot Maria! What are you doing?" I exclaimed looking at the woman who was standing by the end of a cliff. "You'll fall! Come back here!" I didn't want to come near her or she would actually fall.
Turning around, she smiled. "Then what would you do if I actually fell?" She grinned childishly as she threw herself dragging myself with her to save her.
.
.
.
"I want to go shopping!" Well, that was the thousand time of her nagging about it.
"I told you it's not good to go out at this our of the morning," I replied shoving her off with my hand, "Moreover, it's summer."
She pouted, "Then by evening!"
I sighed hopelessly, "Alright, let's go now if you want...."
.
.
.
"Hey...." I called out of Maria as I lied on the sofa hugging and holding myself, cuddling with my doll.
"Y-yeah" replied Maria who was huffing loudly as if she came from a race although she didn't.
"C-can you t-turn on the heater?" I stuttered between my words as my lips trembled along with my shivering body, "I feel really cold..."
"But... It's so hot in here..." replied a sweating Maria.
"But it's n-not hot at all here...." I retorted, but to be surprised with widened eyes as Maria attacked me hugging me.
"If you're cold, then I'll warm you up," she stated sweetly in a kind tone as she smiled, "But you have to cool me up!" Exclaiming, she winked receiving a chuckle from me.
.
.
.
"Don't ever cry again...." I leaned on my knees where she sat on the ground as I cupped her cheeks, "they all will die...." Using my thumbs to rub her tears, I glanced into her eyes genuinely with a long eye contact, "Because they are all humans." I embraced her tightly letting her cry on my shoulder as she shook violently after her family's death, "But I will not.... I will never ever leave you alone." Hearing her shaking stop, I tried to soothe her heart, "Its a promise."
Retreating, she looked at me with teary eyes and nodded. With my index fingers, I pointed them to her mouth's corners curving it up into a smile, "And i don't ever want to see a gloomy Maria...."
.
.
.
"WOOOW!!" She exclaimed with widened eyes as I took her to the forest outside the country. With me, it was a short way. However, she seemed to be bewildered by how gigantic it was. "How do you know your way through out this mass?!"
"Well, that is nothing. I'm used to getting here." I replied staring back at her. Well, she remained frozen in her place staring at the environment and nature around her for what seemed like an hour.
Finally, I grabbed her hand, and we ran deeper into the forest.
.
.
.
"MARIA!!" I screamed to the top of my lungs. It was the most terrible day in my history. I have never imagined it to be ending in that horrible way. No body could feel me or rather feel her our heartbeats are only shared as I could feel it fading away. All what is auditable was the beeping sounds getting slower and slower and much slower almost fading away.
With what is left of her energy, she looked back at me grasping my hands into here, "please take care of yourself...."
"No! Don't say that! You'll be oka--"
"Let that be a promise...." her squeaking voice soon turned into whispers. I couldn't do anything, but tears fleeing on my face. For the first time of my life, I cried. And yes, it was the last time I will. "I love you Barian."
.
.
.
And yet, that was the last thing I've ever had. I have always hated everything and hated everyone, especially human being, but she was the only person whom I loved deeply. She was the only one I was so devoted to.... But... She was gone.
Those were her last words before dying seventy years ago. She fully accepted me and depended on me. I did do the same thing. We spent some cherishable time together as well..... that disease took her from me. She died because of tuberculosis. All that happened because she was a human being. All human beings are weak. If she was more stronger, she could have been here with me. I don't detest her weakness though, that was what made her cuter, but I detested humanity.
.... and yes! I am a vampire.......
