T W O | EARTH SWEET EARTH

Councilman Marcus Kane was walking briskly and purposefully through the halls, his eyes were narrowed as he delved deep into his thoughts. He had recently been informed of the attempted assassination of Chancellor Jaha and told that, to avoid panic, to keep it on the down-low.

"Councillor Kane!" A sudden voice hollered. Kane turned his head and resisted the urge to roll his eyes.

"What is it, Shumway? Can't you see I'm busy? There was an attempted assassination, I don't want a potential killer running around the Ark." Commander Shumway already knew of the shooting, he was the one that told Kane, but the Councillor still spoke through gritted teeth.

Shumway fell in step with Kane and began to stammer over his words. "Uh, it's concerning your daughter, Sir."

Kane froze on the spot and looked at Shumway with an expression that told him to step carefully. His daughter was the only soft spot he harboured and she meant more to him than life itself. Not to mention she was her only family (well, aside from his mother.) Shumway was more than aware of that."What about her?"

"Well, I was in the, uh, control room looking at the vitals of all the juveniles on the ground when, uh, Carter's face was there, sir. She was on the board."

The color drained from Kane's face. "She's on Earth." He concluded shakily. One of the only people he cared about was stood on a toxic wasteland with a hundred criminals.

"Lighten up, Bambi, it might just start to rain."

Carter glanced up from the mass of fried wires and smoke to see Finn looking down at her playfully, his long brown locks threatening to invade his eyesight. She gave him a small smirk. "You need a haircut. From behind I would probably mistake you for a girl."

"Jeez, Bambi has a stick up her ass," Finn muttered lightly to himself. It took a lot of effort for Carter to keep a straight face, whenever he called her 'Bambi' she always felt a smile creeping up on her. That had been his nickname for her for years, since they first became friends. It was all because Carter lost her balance when running through one of the many Ark halls and fell right in front of his room. She didn't know who Bambi was at first, and then he showed her the old fashioned cartoon movie.

Ever since, they've been side-by-side and close as they could be without it being weird. Well, until Finn got arrested.

For being an idiot.

Carter dropped the bundle of wires in her hand and stood up, dusting herself from invisible lint. "Our communication system's fried. They can't contact us, we can't contact them."

Finn quirked an eyebrow. "Is that such a bad thing?"

Her immediate answer was supposed to be yes, but she hesitated and that gave Finn all the answer he needed. He nodded his head smugly and walked to the other side of the Drop ship, his hands clasped behind his back. Was it a bad thing? Carter near hated her father for initiating her mother's execution. She even wished that she could be as far away from him as possible. Being on Earth granted that wish. But, as much as she would hate to admit, she still loved her dad and would never wish death upon him which is exactly why Shumway's threat worked-- although, that didn't stop her resenting him for putting his family second and work first.

Maybe it wasn't a bad thing? She didn't know.

"Hey," another voice broke the sudden intensity of the silence, both Finn and Carter turned around to see Wells Jaha poking his head up the side of the ladder. So the Chancellor did allow his son to go to Earth to die... ouch. An unsettled guilt swirled around in Carter's stomach and she shamefully looked away. His father was dead and Wells didn't have a clue, Carter tried to swallow the bile in her throat. A large, overbearing part of her wanted to tell him, but she couldn't. Not if she valued the life of her father. Sure, she had no way of knowing if Shumway would truly find out if she told anyone, but she wasn't ready to take that bet. "Is everything okay up here?"

"No," Carter muttered, staring down at her feet with a scowl. She hated the fact she was prohibited to say anything. If it was her dad that had been shot, she would want to know. "Some panels fell during our rough landing, I'm still trying to figure out why. The wires are fried to shit which means we've lost all contact with the Ark."

She looked up through her lashes and saw Wells' face drop. He opened his mouth but then closed it again. Settling with a nod, Wells climbed back down the ladder. As soon as he couldn't be seen, Carter clenched her jaw and walked over to the front of the Drop ship, hanging her head.

"Hey, what's up?" Finn asked, coming up to her side. He could see by the way she held herself that there was a massive weight on her shoulders, he just didn't know what. But he intended to find out.

Carter rubbed her temples and sat down, letting her feet dangle over the side of the Drop ship. "Everything and nothing," She mumbled vaguely, waving her hand for emphasis-- or lack there of. He sat down beside her and wrapped an arm around Carter's shoulders, bringing her into a side hug.

"Well... as much as I want to know, you don't have to tell me," he offered, squeezing her shoulder lightly. "Just know that when you're ready, I'm here."

"How did I even get in this mess?" She groaned, placing her head on his shoulder and closing her eyes in frustration.

"Because you look for trouble... It's why we're friends," He shrugged nonchalantly with a boyish grin.

She chuckled lowly and shook her head. "Amen to that."

Despite that he was the younger one out of the two, he always felt that he looked after her and needed to take care of her, she made out that she was a total badass but he knew her well enough to know it was an act. Being down on the ground with no sense of back-up just made him that little bit more protective of her. "Actually, I do have one question,"

He felt Carter straighten and her shoulders tensed. "Shoot,"

"Why are you here, Carter?" He asked, his voice taking a more serious tone. She sat up and looked at him through confusion. "And don't tell me you were a prisoner. For one, you're not stupid enough to get caught breaking the law, and you'd just be floated. And two, I'm pretty sure your dad would try to get you out of it."

"Oh yeah, because my dad is just so affectionate towards his family-- oh wait." Carter bit back, unintentionally taking her frustration out on Finn.

"Carter..."

She let out a long, exasperated sigh and turned to face him. His warm brown eyes had the same level of curiosity they always did, and concern also pooled in them. For her. Who was she kidding? How could she continue to lie to her best friend? "Look, I can't tell you now-- but I will as soon as I can, okay, I promise."

"Are you in some kind of trouble?"

"Uh, you mean apart from being stranded on Earth with criminals? No. I'm not in any trouble at the moment." She emphasized the last part, hoping he wouldn't ask anymore questions. But this was Finn. The atoms in his body is practically made up of curiosity and he would ask questions until he knew exactly what was going on. Carter was the same, it was just another reason why they got along as well as they did. He opened his mouth again, but the voice Carter heard definitely didn't belong to him. It was a hell of a lot more deeper and gravelly.

"We're on the ground, is that not good enough for you?"

They both looked down to see Bellamy stalking towards Clarke and Wells. Carter's blood chilled at the sight of him. He was a killer, whether it was for the protection of his sister or not, in Carter's opinion. She felt wrong just for knowing. She and Finn exchanged curious looks as they gazed down onto the scene below.

Many of the Hundred had gathered upon hearing his voice, most with expectant looks. Who didn't like to watch a confrontation? It was better than most TV.

Wells took a brave step forward and addressed the apparent new leader of the group of prisoners. "We need to find Mount Weather." He declared. Carter furrowed her eyebrows. Weren't they already on Mount Weather?

"It was my father's message, that has to be our first priority." Wells continued and Carter grimaced at his words. Wrong move. These were the people that got locked up because of Jaha. They're not going to want to follow what the Chancellor wants and she couldn't blame them. She wouldn't either.

In fact, she knew she wouldn't regardless.

"Screw your father!" Octavia exclaimed, planted firmly beside her brothers side. Oh, this was getting good, Carter thought with amusement. "What, you think you're in charge here?" She asked, then turned to Clarke and looked her up and down. "You, and your little princess?"

"Shots fired." Carter whispered to Finn with a smirk, not taking her eyes away from the tension below her dangling feet.

"Sympathy wouldn't hurt," Finn whispered back. "We're not all as cold hearted as you,"

"Screw you." Carter mumbled begrudgingly. Finn didn't speak Swedish, but he had been around Carter long enough to know what she said. He smirked. "Can't deny good entertainment Finn, we're not all as good natured as you."

"Do you think we care who's in charge? We need to get to Mount Weather, not because the Chancellor said so but because the longer we wait, the hungrier we get and the harder this'll be. How long do you think we'll last without those supplies?" Carter's eyebrows rose as she listened to Clarke give her little speech. "We're looking at a twenty mile trek, okay? So if we wanna get there before dark, we need to leave, now." She could give a damn good speech, Carter appraised inwardly.

She just hoped it wasn't going to be a regular thing, speeches weren't Carter's favourite method of motivation.

"I got a better idea," Bellamy spoke up. "You two go, find it for us. Let the privileged do the hard work for a change."

The crowd around him cheered in agreement. Now that was a stupid idea. The last thing they wanted to do is split up- lose members of the group. Especially ones as resourceful as Clarke and Wells. Apart from herself and Finn, Carter was pretty sure they were the only other ones that weren't running around like idiots without a care in the world. They were planning. And if they had any chance of survival down here, they needed to plan.

"You're not listening," Wells grounded out in frustration. "We all need to go."

Suddenly, another kid shoved him from behind. He was tall and lanky with an odd nose. He circled around Wells and smirked. "Oh look at this everybody, it's Chancellor of the Earth."

"I think we've just discovered the asshole of the group," Carter muttered in disdain. She could understand the Hundred's anger towards Chancellor Jaha but his son had nothing to do with them being locked up. What this kid was doing to Wells was not fair and it made her blood boil.

"You think that's funny?"

The kid pushed Wells again, this time he lost his balance and fell to the ground. Carter clenched her fists as she watched. This guy was a total dick.

"Wells!" Clarke cried out, running towards him only to be restrained by another kid. Carter looked to her side and watched as Finn clenched his jaw. He was just as pissed as her.

"No but that was." The boy sneered.

"I'm going to sort this out, it's clear no one else is gonna stop him." Carter hissed, readying herself to jump down. It was far and she wasn't wearing shoes that would support the jump but she didn't care. There was no way she could sit back and watch this kid pick on Wells like that. She wasn't that kind of person.

Finn grabbed her arm before she could and shook his head, "I will. I've dealt with douchebags like Murphy all my life."

Murphy. The name suited his poor attitude. "So have I, I'm friends with one," she retorted.

"Stay here, Carter." Finn ordered as he jumped down, leaving no room for argument. Asshole.

"The kid's got one leg, how about you wait until it's a fair fight." Finn remarked, Murphy sized Finn up and down for a few beats before taking a step back. He knew there was no chance on taking Finn on.

Little did he know that Finn was literally as harmless as a cinnamon roll. You know, if you're not allergic to cinnamon, Carter snickered inwardly.

"Hey Spacewalker," Octavia called, sauntering her way over to Finn. "Rescue me next." Finn pulled his best grin as a few of the Hundred chuckled.

"Smooth." Carter mumbled to herself in amusement as she hopped down. Her shoes planted themselves softly on the ground, and she still couldn't contain her surprise just how soft the earth was.

She looked around, still in awe with how beautiful everything looked. Until her eyes fell on Bellamy Blake. He was talking quietly to his sister and Carter found herself wanting to know what it was about. She highly doubted it was about just how he got on the drop ship.

Bellamy looked up from his sister to the girl that was staring at him with a dark look in her eyes. He maintained contact with her, thinking she would look away but he didn't know Carter. She wanted to prove she wasn't scared or even threatened by him, even though she was. There was just something about his piercing stare that unnerved her.

"Carter!" Someone called, pulling her out of her stare-down with Bellamy. She looked over to see Clarke beckoning her.

"What's up?" She asked, looking between Wells, Finn and Clarke.

"We're going to Mount Weather, bring back some of the supplies, do you want to come?" Clarke asked with a raised eyebrow. Carter gnawed on her bottom lip as she considered it. As much as she wanted to see more of this new world, she also wanted to see if she could fix the communication system between them and the Ark.

She had a plan and she didn't want to waste any time before getting to it. "Uh, no it's okay. I'm gonna just work on the panels that weren't fried in our landing, see if we can get something from the Ark. Even static would be good." She explained.

Clarke nodded her head and Carter grabbed Finn's arm lightly. He looked at her with confusion. "Be careful, Finn. I'm not the only one that looks for trouble." She whispered. A ghost of a smirk crossed his face.

"You too, Bambi,"

Carter grinned, taking a few steps back from the trio. "I'm always careful."
