Chapter two
I woke up to the obnoxious sound of my alarm clock. I sat up and yawned, slamming my hand against the snooze button. I stood up and got dressed. I grabbed my bag and headed down stairs.
"Are you leaving?" Asked Earl sitting at the kitchen table.
"Uh...yeah I've got to help a new student..." I responded, opening the front door.
"Okay, don't you want something to eat?" He asked. I could tell he was worried about me. He had always been like this. I guess he still felt guilty for my mothers death.
"No, it's okay. I'm not hungry anyways." I walked out of the house and marched my way to school. I didn't normally drive to school because it's was only half-mile away from my house. As I walked, I felt the cool autumn wind blow through my hair. Leaves slowly fell from the trees. Red, yellow, and orange. The wonderful colors of Autumn. I had came to a stop at my school's entrance gate. It was still locked so I sat down on a bench and waited. It didn't take long till more people showed up and the gate opened. Everyone started walking in except for me. I had to wait for Sarah. Why did I even agree to this? She's taking too long. I might as well leave her. As I was standing up, I saw a bright red figure running from down the street. The figure started waving its hand and as it got closer, I realized it was her. She stopped in front of me and was breathing heavily from all the running.
"Sorry, I'm late. My older brother's car broke down so I had o walk." She said breathing in between words. I sighed.
"Alright, well let's go. I guess" I said. I started to make my way into the school. She followed. People stared at us as we walked. They whispered to others next to them and gave confused looks. I could tell Sarah was slightly uncomfortable. I was a little uncomfortable as well.
"Did I do something wrong already? I only just walked in." She said.
"It's not you. Everyone is just confused and shocked that someone is actually walking and talking with me." I responded. She stopped and I turned around to face her.
"Wait, why are they shocked ? Don't you have friends?" I stared blankly at her.
"No, and I'd like to keep it that way." I turned back around and continued to walk.
"Let me be your friend." She said. I stopped.
"Why? Why don't you become buddies with someone else. I don't care about have a friend or not. I just want to graduate and live my life."
"But how can you live your life without someone close to you? That sounds like a pretty bad life. Having someone be there for, support you, or even just to be there. Friends can be great. Sure you go through your ups and down at times but still those moments count. So I'm going to be your friend whether you like it or not" she demanded. I groaned. I showed her the way to her classes and went on with my day. Today was a very unusual day and I don't think my life is going to usual any longer.
