Chapter one

It had eleven years since the death of my mother. I have been living with my grandfather Earl since. I was attending my third year of high school. I'm not very popular...actually I'm not friends with anyone at my school. I just block everyone out. I don't have time to deal with their problems. I know it sounds harsh but it's the truth. I just care about getting a good job and going on with my life. I sat alone in a public library. I was working on a project hat was due tomorrow. I am not a procrastinator, I just didn't know how I was going to finish this project. I had to write a poem that had to have meaning and had to rhyme. I frustrated and stressed all because of a stupid writing project. I slammed my fist on the desk. Think! Think! Think! I took a deep breath and stroked my hair back. Come on I can do this. It's just a view words that need to rhyme. I groaned with frustration. I felt a small tap on my shoulder.

"Excuse me?" A high pitched voice spoke. I turned around. It was a girl with long, red hair. She had freckles all over her face and a huge smile that went from ear to ear. I didn't say anything; i just stared waiting for her to state her business. "I don't really come to the library very often so I was wondering if you could help me. I'm looking for books on poetry and literature." Her expression didn't change at all. Mine did though. It changed from serious face to annoyed face. I hated people who just assumed I would helped them. "Please?" She asked. I knew she probably wouldn't leave until I agreed so I stood up and waved my hand to signal her to follow. We walked past aisles and aisles of books. I stopped at on the shelves and pointed out which ones were poetry and literature. "Thank you! I just transferred to a new school so they've already given me an assignment." She starting pulling books of shelf and as I started walking back to my station she gasped and dropped all her books. "I forgot to introduce myself! I'm so sorry...my name is Sarah Collon. What's your name?" She asked as she knelt down to pick up the dropped books. I didn't answer. "You don't talk much do you? Wait...can you speak?" She seemed like she almost guilty. I sighed.

"My names Damian. Damian Dodger."
I said with a low and quiet voice. She jumped up and dropped all her books once again. She had a huge smile across her face again and her eyes went wide.

"Oh my gosh! You can speak! I thought you couldn't speak because you weren't saying anything!" She yelled. One the librarians, who was quite old in age, shushed her. She quickly covered her mouth. "Sorry..." She whispered. The old librarian left. "She's scary..."

"Don't worry about that old crone, she's just here to annoy the crap out of us." I said picking up her books. She giggled. I handed her the books and walked to my station. Once I say in my chair, I went back to work. I thought and thought but didn't have any ideas or themes or even rhymes. This is gonna take longer than I thought. I noticed something moving in the corner of my eye, so I turned my head to search for the distracting movement. It was Sarah pulling a chair up to the table I was working at. I looked at her confused.

"What? Can I not sit here?" She asked. I just shook my head and sighed. "Um...what school do you go to?" She asked. I looked up at her and answered hesitantly.

"Clarity High School."

"On my gosh we're going to the same school now! Yay!" She whispered loudly. I sighed with frustration and stood up. I started packing up my stuff and walked away. "Hey wait! Look in sorry for annoying you and be such a burden. I just...I just wanted to make a new friend before I went to a new school. I didn't want to be lonely...I guess." She said while fiddling with her fingers. I closed my eyes and pinched the bridge of my nose.

"Okay, fine I'll be your friend but imm not promising anything special. And because we're friends now I guess I could show you around the school." Her eyes widened. She jumped up and down, squealing. I pushed both of my hands down on her shoulders to stop her from jumping.

"First of all, please don't ever do that again..." I said.

"Okie dokie, buddy" she said with a giggle.

"Second of all, don't call me buddy. And third, meet me at the school front gate tomorrow morning so I can show around." I demanded. She nodded her and left. I walked out of the librarian and searched for my car. I drove home. As I got home, I immediately went to my room and finished my homework.
Finally. Done. Now it's time for sleep
