Chapter 5

While I was at school, I realized I hadn't seen Sarah at all this week. I would have at least seen her once in a day but for some reason I haven't. It was strange not having her near by. She's probably avoiding me; I don't blame her really. If I was her I'd probably do the same. I felt terrible for how treated her. She was just trying to be my friend and she did take care of me when I was knocked out. I should just apologize and at least try to get along with her. I opened my locker door to grab my homework. I heard laughter from down the hall so took quick glance to see what the commotion was. I noticed her bright red haired in the crowd. She was smiling and seemed as though she was enjoying herself. I also noticed she was hanging around the wrong type of people. The people who are the reasons others have low self-esteem, the reasons why people like me refuse to have friends and the reason why society is focused on the rich instead of the poor. Janie Richards, cheerleading captain and leader of the school dances. Beautiful on the outside but ugly on the inside; her humor is based on others misery. Her best friend, Anna Borchers, isn't very intelligent but tends to try to make friends with everyone. Her father owns a five-star hotel, at least that's what I've been told. J.D. Ross, quarter back for the football team. He's very intelligent but also very rude and disrespectful. And last but not least, the king of them all, Carter Walks. Not only is he the star football player but he's also the captain of our school's basketball team, swim team and lacrosse team. His father used to play professional football in collage until a bad incident caused him to stop playing. His mother is famous model for a fashion magazine. Nothing much is said about her except for her bad attitude towards her fans and interviewers. Why was Sarah hanging around people like that? And how is she getting along with them? I decided to make a huge risk. I closed my locker door and marched my way down their path. Sarah noticed me and tried not to make eye contact. Everyone else stared at me with smug looks.

"Hey Sarah...I wanted to talk to you for a sec." I said keeping a blank expression so couldn't tell I was nervous. She just nodded her head and walked along with me though she did keep her distance. "Listen...I just want to apologize for being really rude to you. And I also wanted to thank you properly for the gloves." I explained. She had finally looked up. "So I'm very sorry for my rudeness and my in appropriate behavior. And thank you for the gloves, they fit perfectly." I scratched the back of my head. She smiled and started giggling. She pushed my shoulder.

"You don't have to be so formal about it!" She said while laughing. I started to laugh a little as well.

Today, I had finally made a friend. It might've not been what I had planned or expected but it ended up alright.
