4: Flying Lessons

Today was a very exciting day for me. Today was our first flying lesson, obviously I've flown before but I am still very excited.

I woke up and ripped the covers off of my bed and leapt out of bed. Lily was already awake and getting ready, she looked over at me with a raised eyebrow, "Wow, your up early. Usually we have to drag you out of bed. What's got you so excited?"

"We've got our first flying lesson today!" I exclaimed, jumping up and down on my bed causing Lily to laugh.

"Well I don't think I'll enjoy flying." She said, I looked over at her confused.

"Why not? Flyings brilliant!" I asked, getting off my bed and started picking up my school cloths that where scattered around the dorm.

"Well, I've read all about it and it sounds fun but I just don't think I'll be any good at it." She answered, picking up another book and sitting down on her bed.

"I'm sure you'll do just fine and if it's not for you then that's okay." I smiled at her, "Well, I've got to go but I'll see you later." I said, hanging my tie around my neck and walking out of the door.

I entered the common room to find Sirius sitting in one of the arm chairs. He looked up and saw me, "Hey El, Ready for breakfast?" He asked standing up, I raised an eyebrow.

"El?" I asked, he just shrugged, "Elliot is to long." I rolled my eyes at his laziness.

"Where are the others?" I asked, walking out of the common room with Sirius.

"They went to get an early breakfast, also Remus wanted us to do our homework." Sirius replied, I stopped dead in my tracks.

"We had homework?!" I asked shocked, Sirius nodded smirking, "Yeah, it was for Charms." He answered.

I groaned and started walking quickly towards the great hall while tying my tie, "Great, just great." I muttered, Sirius laughed.

We arrived at the great hall, there wasn't may people here due to the fact that it was so early. I followed Sirius to where the others were.

I sat down next to Remus and Felix, James was opposite me with Sirius on his right and Peter on his left.

Remus and James's hair was as messy as ever, Remus had dark circles under his eyes and James looked like he was about to fall asleep. Sirius looked board but soon began to entertain himself by pulling rude faces at some Slytherins. Peter was furiously scribbling on a pice of parchment, Felix doing the same.

"Hello Elliot, how are you?" Remus greeted me, I smiled, "I'm fine thanks Remus, how are you?" I asked, he smiled and nodded, "I'm good thanks."

"El forgot about her homework for Charms." Sirius chimed in, James lifted his head off of his hand to look at Sirius.

"El?" He questioned.

I sighed, "El is his nickname for me." I answered, James turned to me, "El." He repeated, the expression on his face showed that has was thinking hard.

"I like it." He finally decided, a glint in his eyes, "Glad you like it." I said sarcastically, rolling my eyes, James grinned at me.

"Anyway this homework, your going to be in so much trouble." Felix said, laughing slightly.

Peter looked up confused, "Why is Elliot going to be in so much trouble?" He asked, setting his quill down.

"Because Charms is taken by Professor Ford and he hates Elliot." Remus explained with a chuckle.

I sighed, "It's hardly my fault." I exasperated, Sirius and Felix burst out laughing, James raised and eyebrow, Peter grinned and Remus chuckled.

"It was, you set that dungbomb off and not doing your work." Sirius said, I shrugged, "Whatever, at least it was funny."

"Well, I think it's best if we head off to class." Remus said, picking up his books. I groaned and followed the others out into the great hall.

-

"I can't believe it!" I huffed as we exited the charms classroom, "Ten house points lost and a detention! And I wasn't even doing anything." I continued, the others laughed.

"You were making faces and throwing things at the Slytherins." James chuckled as we walked down the corridor.

"They started it! Laughing and being rude to other people, didn't you hear what they said about muggles?" I answered, making wild hand jesters.

"Yes, it was horrible." Remus said, sighing.

"Well that just shows that they deserved what they got." I muttered, we walked up the marble stairs, "Anyway, what do we have next?" I asked, trying to change the subject.

"We have our first flying lesson." Felix exclaimed excitedly, I grinned along with the other boys, "I'm so excited for it." I said.

"Same, I've been flying for ages." James told us, Sirius, Felix and I all nodded in agreement. "We have to, Felix and I always fly with our brothers in the garden, they taught us how to play quidditch." I explained.

"I like to play as well, haven't had much practice but it's fun." Sirius shrugged, I turned to Remus and Peter who where on my left, "What about you two? Do you play?" I asked, Remus shook his head.

"No, it never really caught my fancy." He replied, tighterning  his grip on his books.

"I'm not very good, mum says that I'll probably fall of the broom." Peter stated gloomily.

"I'm sure you'll get the hang of it." Felix interjected, Peter gave him a hopeful smile.

"I bet I'll be the best." James boasted, I scoffed, "Please, I could beat you easily."

James raised an eyebrow, "We'll see about that Blackwood."

"Your on, Potter."

"Okay guys, calm down. Let's go put our books in the common room then head down the the pitch." Sirius suggested, we all hurried off to the Gryffindor common room.

-

We were a little late, so we were running down the grassy slopes with Peter wheezing behind us, "Hurry up you lot, your late." Our professor said.

"I am Madam Hooch, I will be teaching you how to fly if you don't already know." Madam Hooch said. She had short grey hair and yellow eyes.

"Now, if you'll step up next to a broom and stick your right hand over the broom and say 'up' nice and clearly." She instructed.

The whole class stepped up to a broom, Felix was on my right while Remus was on my left. James was directly opposite me, Sirius to his left and Peter on his right.

I put out my hand and said, "Up!" The broom immediately flew into my hand, "Nice one El." Felix said, I grinned.

Looking over at James I noticed that he hadn't managed to get his broom up, he looked up at me, to which I stuck my tongue out at him. He rolled his eyes.

The next person to get their broom up was Felix, then James, Sirius, Remus and finally Peter. Peter was the last in the class to get his broom up, before him was Lily.

"Now it's time to mount your brooms." Madam Hooch said, she picked up her own broom and swung her leg over it.

"This is how you do it, now you try. I shall correct you if your wrong." She added, getting off of her broom and walking up and down the row.

Once we all had the correct position Madam Hooch called out to us again, "Now, once I blow my whistle gently kick off from the ground, hover for a moment then touch back down again."

I grinned over at Felix who had the same expression on his face, "Oh no." I heard Remus mutter.

I looked over at James who smirked, "Oh it's on." He mouthed, I laughed.

At the sound of Madam Hooch's whistle I kicked off the ground, James in close pursuit. I sped up and around the grounds James behind me, I could see Sirius and Felix hovering about the same level but not moving.

"You too get down here!" Madam Hooch called up to us but we ignored her and continued to fly around chasing each other.

"Oi Potter. I'll race you back to Hooch." I called, he nodded and we both sped back towards the ground.

I was pulling slightly ahead of James, the group of students, Sirius and Felix where all cheering as we sped downwards. I hit the ground running, James close behind me.

"Behold, the best quidditch player of Gryffindor!" I yelled, causing the crowd to laugh, Sirius and Felix landed next to James and I, "That was great, sorry Jamesy, it looks like you have some competition." Sirius laughed, slinging a arm around my shoulders, which he found a little difficult due to the fact that I'm a tad taller then him.

James rolled his eyes, "Whatever, I'll beat you one day Blackwood." I scoffed.

"Yea you wish."

By this time Remus and Peter had joined us, "Nice flying guys." Remus said, Peter nodded in agreement.

"Mr Potter and Miss Blackwood. Due to the current circumstances I must give the both of you detention tonight, despite your superb flying skills." Madam Hooch said, a slight smile forming on her lips as she finished her sentence.

"You should try out for the team when your old enough." She added. And with that she walked away.

"She's right, you should join the team!" Peter exclaimed, causing me to laugh and shake my head. At that moment Lily strode up to us.

"Elliot, James! That was very dangerous, you could have gotten really badly hurt." She almost yelled, I chuckled, "Don't worry. We didn't get hurt." I reassured her.  She huffed and walked away.

"Who was that?" James asked, his eyes still on Lily, I laughed, "That's Lily Evans, she's in my dorm." I answered.

"I like her." He said, Sirius, Remus, Peter, Felix and I burst out laughing, "Awe, does little Jamesy have a crush." Sirius joked in a baby toned voice. The five of us laughed at James's expression, causing another chorus of 'Awes' from Remus, Peter and Felix while Sirius and I made jokes.

"Shut up guys!" James hissed, which just made us laugh harder, he rolled his eyes and started to walk towards the castle.

I couldn't help but feel a slight pang of envy towards Lily, but I decided to push those feelings away.

Sirius, Remus, Peter, Felix and I ran to catch up with him, making more jokes and causing James to blush harder.

"Okay guys, you've had your fun teasing me. Can we please change the subject?" James whined, I laughed, "Okay lover-boy, what do you want to talk about?" I asked, James rolled his eyes as I slung an arm around his shoulders.

"Firstly, don't call me that and secondly I think we should have a name." He said, we all looked at him, confused. James let out an exasperated sigh, "I mean like a name for our group, since we're all best mates we should call our group something." He explained.

"How about..." Sirius started as we walking into the castle and towards the great hall to eat lunch. "How about, the best pranksters in the world!" He exclaimed, throwing his hands up in the air.

"Nah, that's to long." Felix said, sitting down next to me.

"Agreed." Remus spoke, sitting down on my other side.

"Okay, how about..." Sirius thought for a moment, then grinned, "How about, Sirius has the best hair in the universe!" We all laughed while piling food onto our plates.

"No, one because that sucks and two because my hair is way better." I said, but before he could argue I added, "Anyone else got any bright ideas?"

"How about, The Marauders?" Remus suggested, we all thought for a second.

"Well I don't know about you guys but I like it." Felix and I said in sync, the whole group laughed except Peter who shuddered.

"Stop doing that!" He exclaimed.

"Sorry." We muttered, he huffed.

"I like it as well." James said, everyone but Sirius nodded in agreement.

"I still think it should be S.H.T.B.H." He mumbled, I gave him a questionable look, "What's S.H.T.B.H?" I asked.

"It's, Sirius Has The Best Hair." He answered grinning widely, I rolled my eyes.

"Okay, The Marauders it is." I decided, clapping my hands together.

"Marauder squad! Roll out!" Peter shouted, we all groaned and rolled our eyes.

"Shut up Peter!" James and I said, throwing peas at him. The rest of the group joined in, throwing peas and saying things like, 'Yea, shut up Peter' and 'Don't say that!'

Peter had his hands in front of his face, "Okay, okay guys, I won't say it again. I promise!" He yelled, as we laughed and threw peas.
