CH 14. Prom Invite

It's been months since I was last bothered by the Popular group. Every one of them decided to isolate me and ignore me once the hype around bullying me was over. Someone else was in my old position. There was no way I was going to bother them and get back in their bad books.

I was back to being alone again. But I was glad, because I was saved, my lying was over, and I no longer have to lie to my parents.

"Pheobe Evans."

Urgh. My peace was interrupted.

I knew that voice instantly: Niall Horan.

"What do you want Horan?"

"Just hear me out."

We are in the field outside as the weather was warmer now. Students are using the field as way to be smart, studying in the heat, rather than, in the dark, school hallways. It was much easier to avoid people once you have your place on the field. I was towards the steps so that my belongings wouldn't get ruined, and I was left alone.

Left alone until now.

"I thought The Bet was over," I said, trying to remind him of what he said to me at the party.

"Yeah, it was, but I have to take you to Prom."

"To Prom with you? No chance," I cut him off, before he could go into a monologue and justify his decision. "I'm not attending prom it's my rite of passage as a loner."

"The Geek goes and gets an upgrade in rom-coms."

"OR has pigs blood poured over her in horror films," I corrected, remembering what happened in Carrie by Stephen King's book.

That put me off Proms for dear life. No way was I going to risk being the punching bag, for everyone else's entertainment. I was being smart and enjoying my own company at home. No one was going to persuade me otherwise.

"Leave me alone, do you know what that means?" I ask, trying my best to stand my ground.

"Yeah, but it's not happening, until you say yes to the prom invite," argued Niall.

"And if I say yes? What's in it for me?"

"Fifty pounds."

"Hundred," I tried to raise the money higher. "Fifty pounds isn't worth it just to going to prom."

"I'll rent your dress, and give you a hundred pounds," said Niall, putting more into the offer. "Please? I need this."

I was being smart with him. "You don't need this... you want this. I don't get why being with the geeks is such a bad lifestyle; but clearly, we're not enough for people like you."

"You just don't get it," sighs Niall, fed up with having to justify himself to me. "You said you'd help me out."

"You said it was over."

"Pheobe."

"Niall."

"Please, just go with me."

"Urgh fine, but I want nothing to do with you after this."

"You have a deal."

"Bye Niall."
