Chapter 23

Didn't have time to edit this, sorry if there's a bunch of mistakes lolz.

It was a small mercy that moving the Sero family into one of Izuku's apartments was an easy affair. The hardest part was waking Hina up. The thirteen year old refused to even open her eyes, just mumbling incoherently under her breath when anyone shook her. It got to the point where Izuku ran out of patience and just put her on the back of Blaze. The flames didn't burn, just acted as a gentle warm as the girl snuggled further into the wispy fur of fire on his back.

Fuck, I gave the quirk a gender, Izuku thought to himself after the fact.

Since they tried to keep the second floor as empty as possible (because that was where Izuku and Toga lived, they didn't need residence complaining about them coming and going in the middle of the night), the apartment right next to theirs was free.

"Mom and the girls are all settled," Hanta said as he walked into Izuku's apartment.

Toga and him were squished onto the couch, Izuku's head already in the woman's lap. "Good," he mumbled, fighting to keep his eyes open as his best friend meticulously worked through the knots in his hair. "I'll go to UA tomorrow and get everything sorted for Haru and Emiko."

"It can wait a day, Izu," Toga said softly. The villain was dead on his feet, running himself ragged all over the city for weeks. He needed a day off badly.

Izuku pushed himself to sit up, trying to prove that he was just fine. "I'll be fine, Himi. Doesn't take much to talk to the old rat." His sentence was punctuated with a yawn.

Hanta crossed his arms and looked down his nose at the man. "I agree with Toga. Relax tomorrow, Iz. You deserve it."

"Who said threatening Nezu wasn't relaxing?" he shot back, a barely there smirk taking over his lips. It was all he could manage with the little energy he had left.

Toga pushed his head to the side with one finger and giggled softly when he fell right over, unable to keep himself up right. "Go to bed, Izuku. We can argue about it in the morning."

Izuku hummed as he struggled to push himself back up, "Fine, but only because I was going to anyway."

Hanta held a hand out, which Izuku accept almost immediately and was easily hauled to his feet by the pro. "You want me to stay?" Hanta asked quietly, anxiety leaking into his voice at the thought of rejection.

Izuku had nearly melted into Hanta chest, to tired to support his own weight anymore. "I'd love it, but someone needs to stay with your family."

"I'll go!" Toga instantly offered, hopping up from the couch with a new found bounce in her step. "You two love birds can have the apartment for the night," she added with a wink.

Izuku weakly shook his head at her offer. "Himi, no. You don't have to-"

He wasn't able to finish his sentence as Hanta swept him right off his feet into a bridal carry. "You heard the woman, we get the apartment for the night," the hero said with an easy smile, already heading for the hall.

"See ya in the morning!" Toga called after them, making her way to the front door.

"Thanks, Toga!" Hanta called back. "Which door is you?"

Izuku just sleepily pointed to his room. He didn't have any fight left, might as well go with the flow. He yawned again as Hanta managed to open the door with one hand and head toward the villain's bed. "I know your mind is in the gutter right now, but-"

Hanta cut him off again, but this time with a laugh. "Only thought in my mind right now, lightning bug, is falling asleep with you in my arms."

Izuku hummed as he was gently lowered onto his mattress, the hero following moments later. "Were you always this much of a sap?"

He was pulled into Hanta's chest, resting his head against it and listening to his steady heartbeat. "Seeing as I didn't try to get in your pants at fifteen, gonna go out on a limb and say yes," the hero teased.

"Good," Izuku whispered, seconds away from passing out. "Never change, Hana."

"Wouldn't dream of it, lightning bug."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"It's cute you two think you can stop me from going," Izuku said, leaning back against the kitchen counter in the Sero's temporary apartment.
It was the next morning and Izuku felt amazing. He hadn't slept so well in years, so he didn't see what the problem was with him going to UA that day. Might as well just get it over with and get the girls back in school, right? Toga and Hanta were both adamant that he give it a day, but he was never good at sitting still.
"I can't physically stop you," Toga agreed with a nod, "but I can cry."
Izuku rolled his eyes at her dramatics. "It'll take me twenty minutes tops, I don't understand why this is such a big deal."
"Fine, but I'm coming with," Hanta said suddenly, earning a pout from the blonde girl at the betrayal. She'd thought he was on her side, damn it.
"Okay," Izuku said slowly, testing the word out. "But I don't think you really want to. Nezu and I have... and interesting relationship."
Hanta shrugged. The guy had been his principal for three years and they still regularly interacted due to hero work, he was sure that nothing would surprise him. "I'm not worried, Iz."
"Alright," Izuku said with a sigh, holding out his hand to the hero. It was accepted without a second thought. "Hold down the fort," he instructed Toga. "I'd leave Blaze with you, but Nezu's gonna wanna see him."
"I knew that name would stick!" she cheered as the two men moved to the window.
Hanta looked confused at their direction. "Iz, the door's that way," he said, pointing behind them.
"Doors take forever," Izuku said simply. "Hold on tight."
Hanta's grip on his hand tightened in a second, suddenly very worried about this trip. One second he was on the second story of Izuku's apartment building, and then next they were on the road below. It didn't stop there either. For the next two minutes, they blinked in and out of existence as they got closer and closer to Hanta's old high school. Once they reached the front gates, everything went still again.
"You couldn't have given me a warning?" Hanta whined, his free hand going to his stomach as it churned. He didn't think he could get motion sick, but Izuku had just proved him wrong.
"I did," Izuku said with an amused smile. "I told you to hold on tight."
"You didn't say shit about teleporting!" Hanta complained.
Izuku ignored that comment and instead lifted his free hand to hover right in front of his face. A small flame burst free of his skin and floated there. "Go find him, boy," the villain instructed and the fire took off like a shot.
As it disappeared over the gates, Izuku turned back to Hanta. "You're really not going to like this next part then."
The hero let out a pained groan and tightened his hold once again.
"Don't worry," Izuku said with a quiet laugh. "I'll make sure you land right in front of a garbage can."
The villain snapped his free hand and the world warped again. This time, it felt like Hanta was spinning at break neck speeds, unable to tell up from down. When the world finally righted itself, he fell to his knees and vomited. The only saving grace was that Izuku had kept his word and made sure that he landed directly in front of a trash can.
"Well, hello," Nezu's chipper voice said, taking in the sight of the two men.
Izuku pointed a thumb at a sick Hanta. "He's not used to teleportation yet."
"Yet?!" Hanta exclaimed, finally feeling his stomach settle. "Like I'm ever doing that again. Also, what the hell happened to only being able to teleport to places you could see?"
The small wisp of flame Izuku had set free suddenly materialized as Blaze the wolf. The villain  nodded his head to it. "I can see everything he does, which means I can teleport to him no matter where he is, it's just... a little rough, since the quirk isn't made for long distance."
"Fascinating," Nezu mumbled, eyeing the burning wolf with undisguised intrigue.
"Why couldn't we just walk through the front doors?" Hanta asked, pushing himself to his feet and accepting the mint that Nezu graciously handed him.
Izuku pointed to his face. "Japan's most wanted, tape boy."
Hanta looked between the villain and his old principal. "Nezu doesn't seem to care that much."
"The security system does."
"It can't be helped," Nezu said, his beady eyes blinking between the two of them. "Rules are rules."
"Speaking of rules," Izuku cut in, "Haru and Emiko Sero are back, but they can't stay in the dorms."
Nezu's constantly pleasant smile dropped into a frown. "The dorms are mandatory for students."
Izuku rolled his eyes. "Yeah, yeah, because of dear old dad, but he's dead now. I'm the biggest threat you've got and I just went through hell and back to get them, I'm not going to attack them in their sleep."
Nezu shook his head, pulling a cup of tea from the drawer of his desk. "Rules-"
"Are rules," Izuku finished, cutting the principal off. "I don't care about your rules. I care about the girls' safety."
"I can guarantee their safety here," Nezu continued, taking a sip.
"No, you can't," Izuku said, reeling back at the blatant confidence. "I know first hand how lacking UA's security has gotten since my father's death. You've gotten sloppy, Nezu, and I wouldn't trust you with a dog, let alone the girls' lives."
Nezu shrugged as he took another sip of his tea. "Our security hasn't been a problem in seven years."
"It was a problem last week," Izuku argued, throwing a hand behind him.
The rodent in a suit raised his brows at him. "That was you, Midoriya."
"And I wasn't even trying," Izuku said, crossing his arms with a heated glare. Blaze was softly growling at his side, feeding off his own agitation. "What happens when some villain actually puts in effort and gets past your stupid fucking walls as easily as I did?"
An amused smile slipped onto the principal's face and Izuku knew he wasn't going to like what he said next. "Do you want a job then?"
Izuku wildly gestured to himself, "Japan's most wanted! Why does everyone keep forgetting that?"
"No one but myself and a few trusted staff members need to know," Nezu added and Izuku knew he meant Aizawa.
"No."
"Pity," Nezu said with a click of his tongue, sounding anything but upset. "I guess the girls will just have to transfer."
"You're not going to blackmail me into working for you," Izuku said through gritted teeth as Blaze's growls grew in volume.
"A shame, but expected from you," Nezu said with a solemn nod.
A calloused hand slipped into Izuku's and gave a soft tug, redirected his attention to Hanta. "I think you should do it," he mumbled, trying to keep the prying rat from over hearing too much.
"I physically can't," Izuku said with a huff. "Between you, the apartment, and UA, I'd be spread to thin. I can't guarantee that all of you would be looked after at all times."
Hanta hummed and looked down at the growling beast next to the villain. "First off, stop worrying about me. I'm a hero, I can take care of myself. Second, it would only be at night and you could leave Blaze with Hina at the apartment."
"Compelling argument," Izuku drawled sarcastically, "but what am I supposed to do with my best offensive quirk if the school gets attacked? Call him back and leave your mom and youngest sister alone? What if that's the villain's plan the whole time? It won't work, Hana," he said with a shake of his head.
Nezu's high pitched laughter drew both men's attention back to him. "You're the security detail for the entire family? You really are too good to be a villain, young Midoriya."
Izuku narrowed his eyes at the name. "The last person to call me that got swindled out of a quirk, watch yourself, rat."
Nezu laughed again, finding the threat harmless. "Really, you must tell me what it's like to have One For All and All For One working in tandem."
"Exhausting," Izuku admitted, already aware that Nezu's price for favor's was quirk knowledge. "They weren't met to be housed in the same body. It's like they're always fighting for the upper hand." His right hand absently traveled to his sternum, rubbing against it where a dull ache almost permanently resided because of the two feuding quirks. "Don't think dad realized that when he decided to get One For All back. The whole purpose of the quirk was to kill him and get rid of All For One. The two of them don't know what to do now that they're housed in the same body."
"Fascinating, just fascinating." Nezu cast a look at the wolf beside the villain, who had finally ceased it's growling. "And what about that one? I don't think I've seen it before."
"My pyrokinesis quirk," Izuku explained, letting one hand rest on the wolf's head. "Had to let it go dormant after the prison break. It fused with something during that year and became sort of sentient. He usually just feeds off my emotions, but every once in a while he gets a spark of his own. He's gotten really attached to Hina, Hanta's youngest sister. Hasn't stopped with this form since learning her favorite animal is a wolf."
Blaze pushed his head further into Izuku's hand, pleased with the description he was given.
Nezu shook his head in disbelief, tearing his eyes away from the quirk to look back at it's wielder. "You truly are amazing, Izuku Midoriya."
"According to you and just about everyone else I meet," Izuku grumbled in annoyance. Praise wasn't something he'd ever appreciated, but his aversion to it only got worse after his parent's deaths.
"You know," Nezu drawled, absently pushing a few papers on his desk to meticulously straighten them, "We're still in need of a symbol of peace after All Might's retirement. The new number one, you childhood friend if I remember correctly, seems to have a hard time filling that role."
Laughter bubbled up from deep in Izuku's belly at that. He had to hold onto Hanta's arm to stop himself from falling over. "Please, I'm the last thing someone thinks of when they hear the word peace. I'm basically chaos incarnate."
Nezu waved an uncaring paw. "Regardless, you are the ninth holder of One For All, the title comes with the quirk."
"Then I'll give it to Hanta and he can be the tenth."
"Whoa there, firefly," the hero in question cut in quickly. "I don't think I'm up for that."
"Firefly?" Izuku asked, stuck on the nickname. "That's new."
"I'm trying it out," Hanta said while bumping their shoulders together. He suddenly frowned, looking to Izuku with unfiltered worry. "Do you hate it?"
"No!" Izuku said a little too quickly. "No, it's just... new."
Hanta's anxiety melted away into a soft smile. "Alright then."
"You're not escaping tape boy," Izuku added, bumping their shoulders together again.
"Damn it."
"I mean I could call you tape dispenser, if you prefer," he offered with a teasing smile of his own.
Hanta's face quickly scrunched in disgust, "That's what Bakugou calls me."
Izuku matched his disgust at the flip of switch. "Definitely not then."
"Well, then," Nezu said, breaking them from their little bubble they had unknowingly created. The principal didn't seem bothered by it at all, in fact he looked pleased that the two were 'getting along'. "The girls may continue their education here, on one condition. Midoriya must teleport them from their dorm rooms at the end of the day and get them back in the mornings. I don't want word getting out that I'm playing favorites."
"Wait," Hanta said, his brows furrowing in confusion. "I thought you said you couldn't make an exception for them?"
"He couldn't without payment," Izuku said with a quiet chuckle. "You think I ranted about my quirks for fun, tape boy?"
"That was all it took?"
"That was all?" Izuku asked, offended by the question. "That was more information on my quirks than I've ever given someone, besides you and Himiko."
"Oh!" Nezu exclaimed, reaching into his desk and pulling out a small pink box with a label that said it was some sort of fruity tea. "This is for Ms. Toga, make sure she receives it for me, please," he explained while pushing the box across his desk.
Hanta was even more confused now, looking to Izuku for an explanation. "Does he regularly buy Toga gifts?"
"Just tea," Izuku said with a shrug. "They're both obsessed with it."
"Seriously, what is your guys' relationship?"
Izuku threw his head back with an annoyed groan. He really hadn't wanted to explain it, which is why he didn't want Hanta to come with in the first place. "Tape boy, meet my unlicensed therapist," he said while pointing to the smiling rodent.
"What?
"I rant to him about my life and quirks, he does me favors in return," Izuku further explained. "That's why I know so much about their security. I sneak in here at least once a month."
Hanta looked between the two of them as if they'd grown second heads. "What kind of favors do you need from Nezu?"
Izuku shrugged because the truth was that there was a lot. "Access to classified records, prison details, CCTV footage, stuff like that. I could get it myself, but this is just so much easier."
"Didn't peg you as lazy," Hanta teased, finding the whole situation amusing. He was a little offended that so many people in his life had a direct link to Izuku during that seven year disappearance of his, but he liked to think he knew Izuku well enough by now that he knew why.
Izuku loved him, or at least cared about him enough to want him safe. He thought that contacting Hanta would be signing his death warrant and after everything that happened with his family... he couldn't exactly blame him. Hanta knew he could hold his own as a pro, but if the roles were reversed he would have done the same.
"I feel like I've earned the right to be a little lazy every once in a while. Isn't that what you and Himiko were telling me just this morning?" Izuku pointed out, one brow raised.
Hanta held his hands up in front of him, "Hey, I never said it was a bad thing. Just didn't think you'd let yourself take the easy route."
"We have different definitions of easy is all."
"Sure, Iz."
"Whatever," the villain huffed, turning back to address Nezu. "I'll get the girls to school tomorrow and teleport them in and out after that."
"Sounds good," Nezu said with a muffled clap. It was hard for his claps to be loud and sharp with all the fur. "You should stop by after you get them to class, I'd like to hear how Ms. Toga likes the tea."
"Maybe," he said, flicking his wrist toward the door.
Blaze followed the wordless order seamlessly, reverting back to that small spark of flame and shooting off under the crack in the door.
"That really is a neat quirk," Nezu marveled.
"Don't let it hear you, he already has a big enough ego," Izuku complained with a tired sigh. Battling against an egotistical quirk was not what he thought his life would look like at fifteen.
Hanta linked their hands together, already guess what was to come. "Well, he's an extension of you, what did you expect."
"Rude," Izuku gasped, just as he clicked his fingers and the world went wonky.
"A warning!" Hanta shouted as he once again fell to his knees as they landed in Izuku's apartment, but this time he succeeded in keeping his breakfast down.
Izuku laughed as he dragged a hand through the wobbling pro's hair. "This time it was payback."
This chapter is suuuuuper long and I didn't even realize it while writing, oops. This was supposed to be finished forever ago and the next chapter done, but then my boyfriend got wasted and I had to babysit, sorry bout it. I'm working a lot the next six or so days, so I don't know how much I'll be updating.
