Lucky Man

The house had gone up for sale and sold almost immediately, surprising both of them. Stevie was scared and nervous because it was basically sold out from under them and they needed a residence quickly. Lindsey, trying to make things a little easier for the time being, found them a gorgeous, spacious condo. It was a temporary solution but Stevie was so grateful for his quick thinking. They had decided to go through an auction house to sell their art from their travels and things they had imported that had no real value to them. They no longer wanted to be the Home and Gardens couple, wanting a simplicity they had never quite had before. The condo was an adjustment for sure but there were three bedrooms, an ocean view and many amenities like a pool and gym, as well as a personal shopping service that could bring small amounts of groceries to the them for a nominal fee. As soon as they were approved to move in, they did so quickly. Lindsey would take care of Arabella as much as possible while Stevie unpacked and decorated to the best of her ability. She made quick work as well, because it seemed like in no time, it felt like home. Lindsey praised her continuously, kissing her and rubbing her shoulders when she felt overwhelmed or stressed. When it was all done, they could sleep a lot easier and as the days turned to weeks, Stevie seemed a lot happier there.

Arabella had just gone down for the night and Lindsey had made dinner reservations for that night at seven-thirty. Stevie was nervous, never having left their now four and a half month old daughter at home. She got dressed, applied make up, perfume, and fussed with her hair, constantly checking on the baby. The last time she snuck off, Lindsey caught her and kissed her.

"What do you think you're doing, Mrs Buckingham?"

"Checking on Arabella, Mr. Buckingham" she said playfully.

"You know she's fine. This is the fifth time you've checked in about thirty minutes. I know you're worried but she is in fabulous hands. Christine will be watching her, you have bottles prepared if she wakes up and explicit instructions on warming and feeding. She knows all the songs we sing her to sleep with because they're ours and she knows not to be wild here, as if she ever would be. You trust her, don't you?"

"Of course I do, I just--"

"I get it. You're a mama now, you're made to worry, but Arabella is fine. She may not even wake up the entire time we're gone. She's dropped one of her feedings already."

"What if when I come back, she doesn't want to nurse again?"

"Somehow I don't think that will happen." Lindsey gave her a look and she giggled.

"I know, I'm overreacting."

"You're not. It's the first time we have ever left her but she will be completely fine. I promise."

"Thank you for understanding."

"She's my baby too. I worry about her all the time, and I always will but sometimes you just have to let it go."

"When did I trade my uptight musician husband for a chill zen master, or did you come with the condo?" she joked and he laughed.

"You're teaching me to relax a little and honestly, I think this place has been a good influence on us."

"I think so too." The buzzer sounded and Lindsey jogged over to answer the intercom.

"Beam me up, Scottie" the English accent said softly.

"Sure, come on up" Lindsey said, smiling.

"She seems to be in a good mood" Stevie said, checking her appearance in the mirror for the millionth time. "Do you really think I look okay?"

"You look stunning. I'm a very, very lucky man."

"You don't look too bad yourself." she said with a wink and he wrapped his arms around her. The door was unlocked and Christine walked right in, flowers in her hand as well as a clear clam shell box.

"I brought prom favors" Christine said. "Ooh, don't you two look smashing!"

"Hey, Chris. What's all that?" Stevie asked.

"Lindsey somehow wrangled me into helping surprise you with flowers as well as bringing him a boutonnière for his jacket."

"That was very sweet of both of you, I appreciate it. Do I have time to put these in water, Linds?"

"You do, for once we aren't running late." She gave him a look and he chuckled, watching her walk into her kitchen and hunt up a vase to fill.

"Alright Buck, give me the grand tour." Christine said, clapping him on the shoulder.

"My pleasure."

"Obviously this is our foyer, living room, large kitchen..." He walked down the hall. "Guest bathroom, our bedroom, spare bedroom and Arabella's room. She's asleep so tonight should be easy. Through our room is a walk in closet and en-suite with a standing shower and jacuzzi tub. There's a second bathroom that's fully equipped and we've got like, closets and stuff...boring. But here's the very best part." Lindsey walks her through to their bedroom and pulled open the curtains revealing a large balcony and a complete ocean view.

"Oh my god!" Christine gasps. "It's your own bit of heaven, isn't it?"

"It is! All three bedrooms and the living room have this view. One hundred and eighty degrees of ocean view. That's what sold me."

"Wow, so this is permanent?"

"I'm not sure. We are very happy here. We might end up looking for a house in the future, whenever that may be, but for now, this is home."

"It's gorgeous, Lindsey, truly."

"Thank you." Christine follows Lindsey out and back down the hall to the living room. "We've got cable and snacks and anything you may want."

"Thank you, I feel like a queen. This has got to be the best baby sitting job a rockstar could nab"

Stevie laughed. "We appreciate you offering. I'm nervous but I'm happy to know our daughter is with a friend and not just a trained stranger"

"I'm more than happy to help. You two deserve a little fun."

"Thank you. We will see you in a few hours. Try to have fun too!"

"I will, love. Good night" Christine waved, settling down on the couch and propping her feet up on the coffee table when they had closed the door. She switched on the tv and switched channels, looking for something to watch. "This is quite a cushy job. I wouldn't mind doing this." she said in a lilting accent, already feeling quite at home.
