Lydia's lips curl into a smile, watching the crowd part like the red seas as Lindsey approaches. Her version of dressed up is tight, short and silver with a silver chain belt hanging from her hips, fishnet stockings and alarmingly high heels. Her long blonde hair is flipped over one shoulder and pin straight. Her makeup is dark and her lips are painted the deepest red, any darker and it would be black.

"What the fuck do you think you're doing here?" Lindsey asked, yanking her by the arm outside.

"Don't be so rough"

"I never want to see you again, what the fuck are you doing here? Answer me."

"I work for a jeweler and he told me you ordered a beautiful, expensive jewelry set for Stevie. I told him I knew the way and I offered to bring it."

"At four in the morning?"

"Well no, I could have brought it tomorrow morning but I wanted to see you all dressed up..." She caresses his lapel and Stevie watches Lydia try to cast her spell on her husband. The woman has her breasts practically on full display and no man could possibly look away, or so Lydia hopes.

"So where is my order? Isn't it your job to deliver it?"

Lydia huffs. "Can I be taken through to a clean surface, somewhere flat?"

Lindsey looks around a moment. "Lets go to the dining room." She follows close behind him, smiling devilishly as she takes his hand. She spots Stevie, winking at her and Stevie turns away. "Alright, make this quick."

"It has to be inspected and you have to sign off on it or I can't leave it with you."

"Fine, whatever."

Lydia takes the bag off her shoulder, laying it in the table and unzips it. She carefully takes out one large box, a long slender box and finally a small one. She opens them individually and removes her jeweler's loop from its velvet bag to look them over. Lindsey's eyes go wide. He can't quite believe he is about to give this to Stevie. He knows she isn't expecting it. A thin diamond encrusted bracelet, a beautiful, intricate pendant that seemingly came from another, much more magical realm and an anniversary ring, to serve as a replacement for her wedding band because they couldn't afford anything when they got married. After all these years, he wanted to do something grand for her. He wanted her to wear his ring proudly and show her just how much she means to him. He signs the papers, accepting the pieces as they are and Lydia leaves him, fixing her lipstick with the swipe of an index finger. She walks straight through the front door again, waving at Stevie, constantly wanting to remind her she's still there and she's not going anywhere. Lindsey comes out a few minutes later, a gleeful smile on his face. Stevie can barely look at him, her eyes burning with hot tears. Almost all of the guests are gone by this point so she goes upstairs to change. She's upset, running herself a bath with aromatic oils that are also wonderful for softening and nourishing the skin. She makes sure her robe is on the back of the door, then undresses, examining her body in the mirror briefly before descending into the warm water. She feels the tension melting away, her spirits lifting ever so slightly. A knock on the door causes her to stiffen. She realized she wasn't in her room, in her bathroom. It had become habit for her to use Lindsey's as she was sleeping with him most nights.

"Yes?" she asks.

"Steph, it's just me. I was worried about you, I wanted to make sure you're okay."

Her breath shudders a little, a tear falling down her face. "I'm fine" she says but he knows she isn't.

"When you come out, can we talk?" he asks but he receives no answer. Stevie hears his footsteps falling away from the door, growing more faint with the distance and she tries to relax again. After a few minutes, it's ruined so she carefully gets out, patting the oils into her skin as she dries off. She pulls her robe on, tying it around herself and puts the towel in the hamper. She leaves his room, going to her own. She passes Lindsey in the hallway, and it looks as if he is waiting for her but she can't entertain the idea. She has no idea what he was doing in the other room with Lydia, the look on both their faces was enough to make her sick, if she weren't so already. She shuts the large door of her bedroom and locks it behind her, needing some time alone. Just as she thought, Lindsey bangs on the door. "Steph, please, baby."

"Good night, Lindsey" she says and his shoulders slump. Feeling defeated, he goes back downstairs, watching as their crew of people cleaning up go about their work. He helps here and there, taking glasses to the sink, putting the dishes in the truck for the service to clean and return the next day with the cloth napkins. He had yet to arrange for her dishwasher to be installed and he knew he ought to get on that. Making sure he wouldn't forget, he goes to the calendar writing 'Call Maytag' on tomorrow's date. Looking over the events of the following week, he noticed yet another doctor's appointment for Stevie there. He flips the page to the following month and sees another one there, like clockwork. Odd, he thinks. He moves to the next month and nothing is written there yet, only a tentative asterisk placed one month after the last appointment. If she ever speaks to him again, maybe he can ask her about it, until then, he is worried. So many scenarios play through his mind as he finishes his work downstairs and goes to his bedroom to strip down for the night. He can still smell Stevie's oils she had used in the bath and he smiles sadly. "How did everything go so wrong, baby?" he asks himself, sitting on his bed. He removes his shoes and socks, taking off his suit, hanging it up on the back of his door. She's going to hate that, he thinks, as he didn't even use a hanger, just caught the belt loop on the hook, hanging the jacket overtop. He lays in bed, staring at the ceiling. After more than an hour, he wants to try Stevie's door again but knows she will be asleep. Unable to sleep, he goes to the studio and grabs his guitar. Taking a small bottle from his desk drawer, he takes the cap off and starts spraying it in the air. Perfume- one he had stolen from Stevie a few months ago. He loved this one so much and it always made him think of her when they first started dating, when they got married. Instantly, a new set of notes came to him and he picked them carefully. Stopping only to flip the switch on his tape player, he went on like this until the sun had fully risen and he could smell breakfast cooking in the kitchen.
