The Mystery Begins
Trollstopolis, Maine is having a huge party in the backyard of a house. Among these people having fun is a pink-haired Brazilian girl with a plump, curvy figure, an African-American girl with orange dreadlocks is playing sick tunes in her turntables, an Indian boy with silver hair, a short, Amerindian girl with teal hair, a tall, dark-skinned boy with blue dreadlocks, a plump, Caucasian boy with icy blue hair, holding a yellow furred Pomeranian with a top hat, a green and violet sweater and a blue-collar with a tag, and a pair of Japanese twins with the same teal, purple, and pink gradient hair, tied in one side ponytails in different side each.
"I never had this much fun ever since we had a pop quiz." The pink-haired Latina squealed.
"Yeah, things are changing because we are now teens." The blue-haired Afrolatino said sarcastically as he passed by.
"Yeah, but today is our last day of this year's semester." Poppy said. "Branch, come and join the fun today. DJ Suki, Guy Diamond, Smidge, Cooper, Biggie, Mr. Dinkles, and Satin and Chenille are also having fun. Tomorrow, we will go to the ghost town of Chamberlain."
"Okay, isn't that the most haunted place in all of Maine because some deranged local high school girl of 1979 has supernatural powers?" One of the Japanese twins asked her.
"Yeah, I read that book by Stephen King and it was a coincidence that the town is haunted because of the infamous Black Prom." Smidge, the teal-haired girl agreed.
"And most people believe that the ghost of Carrietta White is haunting it up to this day." Guy Diamond, the silver-haired boy added.
"G-g-g-g-ghosts?!" Biggie and Cooper shivered.
"Guys, that's just a ghost story." Branch said disbelievingly. "There is no such thing as ghosts, it's just a gimmick to bring tourism to the place and I will bring a lot of equipment to see if it's real or not."
"You always come prepared." Poppy rolled her eyes as the party continued. Branch sneaked out of the party to visit something or someone. He walked through the bushes and the trees until he found a fully-functioning but abandoned double-decker sleeper bus with a campfire beside it. He knocked on the double decker bus's door and a tall, dark-skinned man with white curly hair in an Afro, wearing a tie-dyed tank top and long, blue bell bottoms answered it.
"Hey, sourpuss," the man said.
"Oh, hey Cloud Dude!" Branch groaned. "Is she here? I wanna tell her something."
Branch entered the bus and talked to someone inside. Then, he sneaked back to the party but this time, he wasn't alone. A mysterious figure sneaked behind him. Branch pretended that he wasn't having a care in the party until he heard someone screaming. It was Guy Diamond and he screamed because he saw something. Poppy and her friends approached and they saw some blood on the ground.
"Oh Glitter! Blood!" Guy Diamond panicked.
"Oh my guh!" Smidge cried.
Branch looked closer to the stain and examined it with a magnifying glass.
"Holy Guacamole! it's just food coloring and molasses." He concluded.
"Pedra Preciosa! Fake blood, and trails of it" Poppy said.
"Vamos, let's just follow the trail." Branch sighed.
They continued investigating the party but in the process, they heard a strange sound.
"What was that?" Poppy wondered.
"Could it be?" Branch was shocked.
Suddenly, a real ghost appeared in the party. It looks like a female teenage ghost in a bloody prom dress. Numerous ghosts appear in charred prom outfits before the team. The Snack Pack were shocked to see them, while Biggie jumped into Cooper's arms in fear.
"Sprinkles and Cupcakes! It's the ghost of Carrie White!" DJ Suki shivered.
"CRIPES!!" Biggie and Cooper screamed.
Everybody started panicking as the ghost started haunting the entire party. The screams alarmed the police nearby, who drove into Chamberlain to see what was going on. Guy Diamond was cornered nearby by the ghosts until a thump was heard. Suddenly, it was revealed that the ghosts were held on a rope by a crane, which came out from the shadows when a mysterious figure threw a rock at it from its hiding place. It started to go haywire with the ghost hanging on the end of the rope. The gang jumped out of the way and let the crane crash into the debris, exploding and chemicals came out of the ghost. It spilled into some places but Poppy and her friends got out of the way in time. The ghost was trapped between the broken parts and the group faced it with smirks. Mr. Dinkles jumped out of Biggie's backpack and barked at the culprit.
"I knew it, the ghost of Carrie White is not real." Branch smirked. "It's just......."
Mr. Dinkles bit off the wig and the mask, revealing it to be a skinny, fair skinned young man with blue, teal and green hair, tied in a low ponytail and a blonde goatee. Under that disguise, he is wearing a purple collared shirt, yellow yoga pants sewn with a darker yellow thread, and brown shoes. He also has a deep purple bracelet on his left wrist.
"Creek!!!" They exclaimed in a chorus.
"But why??" Poppy gasped.
"He's selling us out to Chef, the principal of our rival school, Bergen Prep!" Branch shouted as he unmasked the other ghosts, with one of them revealing a fair skinned woman with short, brown hair, styled in a bouffant with short bangs.
"Branch, wait!" Poppy cried out. "I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation, at least give him a chance."
"Thank you, Poppy. I'm selling you out." Creek smirked.
Poppy pinned him down with her magic but he managed to free himself.
"You'd better explain yourself, Creek!" She growled.
"As I was about to accept my fate...I had, what I can only describe as...a spiritual awakening." He said.
I don't wanna be alone! Don't leave me." She pleaded.
"But there isn't." Creek refused. "And now I have to live with this for the rest of my life. At least you get to be alone with a clear conscience. So, in a way...you could say...I'm doing this for you. Boop!"
"Ummmm, guys, we need help with something else." Cooper, the tall, dark-skinned teenage boy said. He revealed a figure covered in chemicals, stolen equipment, and other stolen items in a van.
"We'll handle these." The officers said when they arrived in Chamberlain. They grabbed and took photographs of stolen goods. Poppy and her friends are shocked to see that Branch has solved a real mystery.
"Ugh! Foiled by those rainbow misfits!" Chef cried as she was dragged away to the police car, and slammed into the backseat while Creek was being taken away by a pair of angry adults, probably his parents. The car drove away, while the team drove behind the ambulance to the hospital, where they waited in the waiting room, fidgeting with their cellphones and tech.
"I hope that person splashed by the chemicals is okay." Poppy sighed.
"And I can't believe I just solved the mystery." Branch said. "If it weren't for her....."
"Wait? Who is she?" Smidge asked him.
"She wouldn't tell her name but I got her stuff from Cloud Dude's place" He said. "I only know what she looks like."
"Wow, we just happen to have unexpected help from a stranger." DJ Suki gasped.
"My party failed, it's over, my social life, romance, everything." Poppy sighed in despair.
You with the sad eyes
Don't be discouraged
Oh, I realize
It's hard to take courage
In a world full of people
You can lose sight of it all
The darkness inside you
Can make you feel so small
Poppy noticed Branch, who is sitting beside her, singing alone and looked at him.
Show me a smile then
Don't be unhappy, can't remember when
I last saw you laughing
This world makes you crazy
And you've taken all you can bear
Just call me up
Cause I will always be there
And I see your true colors Shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid
To let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful
I see your true colors
Shining through (true colors)
I see your true colors
That's why I love you
So don't be afraid
To let them show
Your true colors
True colors
Are beautiful
Like a rainbow
Oh, oh, oh...
Like a rainbow
In a moment, the storm dissipated and everybody was relieved that the skies became clear. Branch looked up at Poppy and hugged her.
"Thank you!" She whispered.
"No, thank you." Branch replied.
"For what?" She got confused.
"For showing me how to be happy." He smiled.
"Really? You're finally happy? Now?" She asked him.
"I think so." He quipped. "Happiness is inside of all of us, right? Sometimes, you just need someone to help you find it."
"What's gonna happen now, Poppy?" Smidge asked her.
"I don't know but I know we're not giving up." She answered.
"It's not over, this is the beginning," Branch said.
"Wait, are you saying......" Poppy gasped.
"Si, we can.......you know.........solve mysteries?" Branch said.
"Solve mysteries? As in solving paranormal activities?" She asked him.
"Si Poppy, we can solve mysteries if we all work together," Branch explained but Poppy later hugged him as he hugged her back. Her friends joined together in a group hug until everybody was relieved.
"The party may be a disaster but we can start over by solving mysteries, just as Branch said," she answered.
"So that is why Branch has been suspicious towards Creek throughout the school year, all along," DJ Suki said.
"But we didn't know about all of this," Biggie responded.
"And he wasn't alone, someone helped him," Smidge added. "And she saved us."
"We should thank her for what she did for us," Poppy said.
After a few minutes, Dr. Moonbloom came out with a blonde teenage girl with brown eyes, fair skin, and hot pink lips, wearing a light pink top with a red rose design print, daisy duke shorts, a letterman jacket, and a pair of brown boots. She has blunt bangs, wearing her long, wavy hair in many tails with four hair ties with roses on each tail, hot pink nails, two pairs of necklaces, and a cute backpack with charms. Poppy and her friends were shocked that the girl is the one who helped them solve the mystery.
"Excuse me, this girl here doesn't have somewhere to live, you could bring her with you," Doctor Moonbloom said.
"Uhhhh, ok." Branch shrugged before turning to them. "It's her, the girl who helped me unmask Creek."
They immediately ran up to the newcomer and thanked her.
"Hey, we just wanna say, thank you for helping us solve the mystery." Poppy said, turning to the girl.
"That? Oh, it was nothing." She nodded. "I'm Rosetta."
Poppy smirked. "I'm Penelope Monteiro but everybody calls me Poppy." Poppy introduced herself. "This is Branch, DJ Suki, Biggie and Mr. Dinkles, Guy Diamond, Cooper, Smidge, and Satin and Chenille."
"Wow, you got nice names." Rosetta giggled.
"Well, they're just nicknames but Cooper is his real name, I'm actually Bernardo Rivera." Branch introduced himself.
"Diana Jane Suki Reyes." DJ Suki added.
"Dananjay Maheswaran." Guy Diamond quipped.
"Samantha Redfeather." Smidge joined in.
"I'm Barley Williams and this is Mr. Dinkles." Biggie said, holding his pet Pomeranian in his backpack.
"I'm Chihiro Nakamura and that's my sister, Setsuko." Chenille said.
"And this is Touya Ishikuro but we call him Fuzzbert." Satin added.
"Oh, it's nice to meet you all." She said.
"You really like roses, do you?" Poppy asked.
"Yeah, they're very beautiful." Rosetta said. "They're my favorite flowers, I love them."
"That's it, you can be called Rose." She squealed with delight.
"Rose? I love it." Rose agreed.
"I really like your outfit." Satin complimented.
"Oh, thanks." She said. "I bought them from the shop, FairyGal after I sold all my old outfits to a thrift shop and I still had a few dollars left."
"No wonder you only had lots of dollars in your bag," Branch said.
"FairyGal? We also shop there." Poppy added.
"I really love its Japanese street fashion theme so much, it's a rainbow haven." DJ Suki said.
"I haven't experienced this much freedom, ever since I put my past behind me." She said.
"Why? What's wrong?" Branch asked.
"I just ran away from home to live a new life here." Rose answered.
"Hey, you could stay in an apartment with me." DJ Suki said.
"Sure, I'll stay there till I get a job." She agreed.
"You don't need one, we got a job of our own." Poppy said with a smile.
"So, you wanna join us?" Branch asked her. "There's always room for one more."
"Really? Yeah!" Rose accepted. "I never believe in ghosts or any supernatural to be real, but this experience would be new."
"It would be new and fun." Poppy said as she took her hand. "We can do all the things you have never experienced."
"I'm in!" Rose said as she joined the Snack Pack and walked with them.
