Dawn was rising in Harmonia Falls as Rose was woken up by a ringing in her cellphone. She checked her phone and got a call from Cloud Dude.
"Cloud Dude?! Janice had a baby?!" Rose gasped. "We'll be there!"
After getting ready and eating breakfast, Rose ran outside when the Snack Pack greeted her in their cars.
"Guys, did you hear that Janice gave birth?!" she asked them.
"Yeah, Cloud Dude told us in his video," Poppy answered as she showed them the birth video.
"Hey everybody, I'm a dad now!" he said in his video as he showed Janice in the hospital bed with three babies. A dark skinned girl, a tan skinned boy, and a light brown skinned girl.
"Awww, I'm so happy to be a mom," she cooed. When the video was over,
"They have triplets?!" Rose gasped.
"Yes, I can't wait to see the babies," Poppy squealed.
"I bet Cloud Dude is gonna be too busy because he's gonna be a dad," Branch sighed in relief.
They went to the hospital to visit Cloud Dude and Janice, and soon, they were greeted by his parents and his sister, Eve.
"Long time no see!" his parents cried with joy when they saw them.
"It's good to see you all again," Rose said.
"Rose! Poppy! Branch!" Miley, who was now an adolescent shouted as she ran up to them.
"Wow, Miley, you're growning up!" Poppy squealed when she greeted her.
"I saw your concert around the world and I loved your performance," she said.
"She's been slowly warming up to us ever since we adopted her," Cloud Dude's mother said.
"And she couldn't stop writing songs and singing it," Eve added.
"Mom, dad, please come in and meet your grandkids," Cloud Dude said as he led them to the room.
"They're so cute," Biggie cooed.
"Everybody, I'd like you all to meet our triplets," Janice said as she showed them the babies that they were shown in the video. "Here's our eldest child, Wendy,"
"Awww, she's so cute," Cloud Dude's dad cooed as he admired the dark skinned baby girl.
"Here's Stella, our light brown girl," Cloud Dude continued as he introduced the second child to them, who was crying so loud.
"Wow, she got a strong set of pipes," Branch complimented as Cloud Dude's mother was handed the crying baby by the nurse.
"And finally, our little boy, Arnold Jr.," he ended as he introduced a grumpy looking, tan skinned baby boy.
"Wow, he looks moody," Rose said.
"My brother used to look like that when he was born," Cloud Dude's father giggled.
"I know what we can do to make this special, we'll hold a welcoming party for the triplets," Poppy squealed. "Let me know when the date is going to be held."
When the babies reached their two weeks, Cloud Dude's family started planning with Celestia to have a dedication party for the triplets. Rose was working on her homework with the Snack Pack when she heard about it.
"Guys, do you know that Cloud Dude's parents are working with my grandma for a celebration for Cloud Dude's triplets?" Rose said.
"Really?!" Poppy gasped with excitement. "I can't wait to see it! Would it be a christening like me, Branch....?"
"Poppy, there is more to a baby celebration than a christening," Rose explained. "People all over the world come together to celebrate a new baby. When I was a baby, a dedication ceremony was held in church and I had godparents."
"You were dedicated?" Branch asked her.
"Yeah," She answered.
"As an Indian-American, I wanna share a baby tradition that is still practiced today," Guy Diamond said.
"You do? What is it?" Rose asked him.
"Me and my sisters underwent a head shaving ceremony," he answered while patting the baby inside his belly. "Our parents were encouraged to shave our heads when we were babies because this tradition helps the baby get rid of past-life negativity and cleanse the body and soul."
"Wow, when the baby comes, will he go through what you guys did?" Poppy asked him.
"Yeah, and this soon-to-be-born baby will also go through it," he nodded.
"My mother's side of the family has a tradition from Nigeria," said D.J. Suki. "On the seventh day for a Yoruba girl and the ninth day for a boy, they're given water (to have no enemies), palm oil (for a smooth, stress-free life), kola nut (for a long and healthy one) and salt and pepper (to keep things exciting and spicy). Postpartum care is called omugwo, a key component of which is the baby's first bath given to him by his grandmother (or, if she's unavailable, an aunt or close friend). This first washing symbolizes that the mother isn't alone in raising her child, and that the community will always be there to help her.
"Did you go through it when you were born?" Biggie asked her.
"Yeah, it was on my seventh day after I was born," she answered. "Grandma was able to do the first washing on me and my cousins from my mom's side."
"My mom, who is from Nigeria also experienced it," Legsly added.
"She did?" DJ Suki asked her.
"Yeah," She answered.
"Wow, you really have close-knit family traditions," Guy complimented her.
"When we were born, everybody was welcome to stop by and enjoy a special red bean and rice dish (osekihan)," Satin informed them.
"And our mom was expected to be confined indoors with us for the first 100 days postpartum after we were born," Chenille added.
"Wow, that's a lot of baby traditions around the world," Rose gasped in wonder.
"During our first month, we had our first visit to a Shinto shrine with our parents," Satin continued.
"I remember when I was a baby, I was dressed in red for the party after my christening and my papa gave little trinkets and candy in baskets to family and friends on behalf of the baby. It is a way of thanking them for their support and congratulations," Poppy informed them.
"They did that in Brazil?" Branch asked her.
"Yeah," she answered
"Hey guys, are you talking about babies?" Barb asked when she came into the house. She is accompanied by Val Thundershock, Holly Darlin', Synth,
"Yeah, since Cloud Dude and Janice had their triplets, we're talking about how our families celebrated our births," said Rose. "Did your family do something special for you and Riff?"
"Well, Riff's family had the haircut ceremony and a circumcision ceremony since our dads are friends in the synagogue while dad had an elaborate naming ceremony for me when I was a baby," Barb explained. "He had the creative and participatory services to join for welcoming me into the covenant of Israel."
"Wow, yours is elaborate," Poppy gasped.
"Yeah, there are some customs we have to follow," She smirked.
"I remember when my mom had me, she never ate spicy food or did any chores so my grandma and aunts did it for her," Trollex said.
"Hey, mine too," Tresillo piped up.
"All of us Latin Americans do," Minuet Sonata added.
"So, what is that, guys?" Rose asked them.
"La cuarentena ("quarantine")—a 40-day period when they recuperate from labor," Branch informed Rose. "Grandma once took care of my mom when she had me."
"Good to know," she said.
"Yeah, it was observed by every Latin American mom, Minuet's mom, Gust's mom, Synth's mom, all Latin American moms," he added.
"That's unique," Poppy complimented.
"What about you, guys, what traditions did your family have when celebrating your birth?" Rose asked Dewdrop.
"We had a traditional Catholic baptism," said Dewdrop. "And my grandparents give each child their own claddagh ring."
"Did they give you one?" Branch asked her.
"They sure did," she showed them the gold ring on her left index finger. "When I wear it on my right hand, it means I'm single when I wear it on my left hand, it means I'm in a relationship."
"That's a sweet one," Hickory told her. Then he said, "Back in Germany, mothers have assigned midwives who help them before and after the birthing."
"In the ancient times, Comanche mothers used to give birth in a special tipi but like all modern women, my ma had me in a hospital," Holly said. "She picked me up with her right hand and placed me on her right side when I was born and when it comes to the washing, my ma and grandma gave me my first bath."
"When we have our own kids, we have to remember these traditions and pass them down from generation to generation because that's what makes us who we are," Rose said.
"Yeah!" They all shouted.
"I love that we're different guys," Poppy squealed.
"Nice, now that we learn a lot about baby customs around the world, let's get to business about the naming ceremony," Branch said.
"Yeah, most of us African-Americans traditionally carried out on the ninth day for a boy, and the eighth day after birth for a girl," Darnell explained. "Cooper and I had ours on the ninth day."
"Mine also happened on the ninth day," Branch added.
"Hey, mine too," Trollex cheered.
"I had mine on the eighth day," DJ Suki said.
"Me too," Legsly blurted out.
"Also us," Poppy and Rose chorused.
"But I had mine to go with my dedication," Rose added as she showed them a photo that was taken on her dedication. It shows Celestia, her aunts, her grandparents from the Philippines and a couple was seen carrying a baby Rose.
"Are those two, your parents?" Branch asked her when he noticed the couple in the picture. A tall, heavyset man with brown skin and short platinum silver colored curly hair, wearing a white collared shirt, blue vest, and dark blue pants with black shoes, is seen standing beside a short, tan skinned woman with purple hair and pink highlights, wearing a dark green dress.
"Yeah, my grandma told me that they know that their traveling lifestyle wouldn't be safe for me so they had grandma to care for me so that I'd be safe," she said.
"Oh, so your parents sacrificed a lot for you," Poppy added.
"Yeah, parents have to make sacrifices and hard decisions to protect their kids," she answered.
"Since the triplets' father, Cloud Dude is African-American, they would have a naming ceremony," Trollex said.
"Yeah!" Branch agreed.
"Did someone say a naming ceremony?" Cloud Dude asked them, as he appeared to them.
"Did your parents have a naming ceremony for you and your sister?" Branch asked him.
"Oh sure, a very popular tradition in our community," Cloud Dude said, then added; "We're already named our triplets, but I guess we can have one for them."
"This would be the greatest naming ceremony ever!" Poppy shouted.
After days of preparation, the naming ceremony finally came on the seventh day as everybody appeared for the celebration. It took place in the Hug Fest theme park, which Poppy picked out for Cloud Dude's naming ceremony.
"Hug fest? Really?!" Branch groaned as they appeared at the event hall.all.
"Yeah, it's a special place for a special occasion," Poppy explained.
"I guess I can contain my fists in for a little while," he sighed.
"Why did you choose this of all places?" Rose asked Poppy.
"We can have fun after the ceremony so it's a win-win!" she answered.
"Fair enough," She shrugged.
Soon, they were greeted by drummers and dancers in front of them. Cloud Dude had hired a marching band to perform for everyone.
"Whoa, this is amazing," Poppy gasped.
"Cloud Dude's traditions have a big budget," remarked Rose. "Grandma helped them out too."
"Anything for the community, eh?" Branch groaned.
"Yeah, that's what community is all about, we are one big family," Rose informed him.
The ceremony finally started when Cloud Dude and Janice brought the triplets to the ceremony in a white cloth. A call to prayer was whispered into its ear whilst their heads were shaved. Kola nuts were broken and a roasted chicken was brought to the feast. Finally, it was time for the Griots (story tellers) to announce. the name.
"The eldest daughter shall be called Wendy Ada," she announced and everybody cheered.
"The second shall be called Stella Sade," Janice added.
"And the boy will be Arnold Chibuike Jr.," Cloud Dude ended it.
Everybody cheered for them and they later had a feast.
"Your name is also Arnold Chibuike Jr.?" Branch gasped in surprise.
"Yeah, but I always preferred Cloud Dude because I'm an air sign," he answered.
"Huh, interesting," he responded.
"Come on guys, time to eat," Poppy told them.
Everybody lined up to get their food and gathered at their tables to eat. They had fun talking while eating the food served in the celebration. Then, Janice appeared with the triplets.
"Thank you all so much for coming," she announced. The triplets were held to her chest with a wrap.
"It's been an honor to share some of our culture with all of you. And some of our food." At this part everyone laughed. Janice continued, "Welcoming new life into the world is such a special occasion. And it's the traditions passed down from our ancestors that show how we love them. Cloud Dude and I both hope that our babies, and everyone here will continue those traditions as our families expand."
The guests applauded her words. Cloud Dude dabbed his teary eyes with a napkin.
"So Cloud Dude, are you ready for the journey to fatherhood?" Poppy asked him.
"Yeah, but we haven't tied the knot yet," he answered.
"We would need to save up for that," Rose said.
"Can't wait to see what crazy wedding traditions you have," said Branch.
Throughout January, they helped Janice and Cloud Dude save up and prepare for their married life until they were finally ready to tie the knot. The two had a garden wedding and everybody witnessed the traditions that were added to it from jumping the broom to the exchange of kola nuts. The triplets were happily applauding for their parents.
"Here's to the bride and groom?" Rose announced at the reception. Everyone raised a glass of champagne or cider. "To the bride and groom," they repeated.
"To the 'broom'," Cooper joked. "Get it? Bride and Groom blended together. It's perfect!"
"Oh Coop," laughed Jussy. "Already making jokes."
"It's alright Cooper, besides, you and Jussy would be next to jump the broom," Cloud Dude said. "So will DJ Suki and Demo, Branch and Poppy, you and Billy."
"Oh, I remember now, grandma did that once, and so did my parents, I hope they're out there somewhere," Rose said. "What about you, Dewdrop, what traditions will you and Hickory add into?"
"My family has a special blessing for weddings," said Dewdrop. "We also practice handfasting during the vows."
"In my family we only get married on Wednesday," Hickory said. "In Germany they think that's the luckiest day of the week."
"You can combine hand fasting and find the right Wednesday for your future wedding," Poppy said.
"That's a good plan," Hickory and Dewdrop said together.
"Let's enjoy our college life while it lasts," Rose said.
"Yeah!" They all shouted as they joined the party and dance the night away.
This one is more focused on Cloud Dude and Janice with their kids, Windy, Stormy, and Jr., who were born in this chapter because it takes nine months for humans to have babies.
