Chapter 36
Following the great musical space battle, Branch and Poppy's family successfully infiltrated into the Tulip. But unfortunately, Primrose was already one step ahead of them, she had predicted their arrival and the cell she was keeping her hostage in was an escape pod used for emergency escapes. Primrose detached the shuttle from the ship and dropped it into the orbit of the swamp-like planet she wanted to bring Poppy to. What she didn't expect was Branch's assertiveness and bravery, he jumped into the pod before its doors were sealed and left Viva and King Peppy behind inside the Tulip. Now it's up to him once again, to rescue his one true love.
"Branch! Wait!" Viva reacted to his sudden choice and attempted to unlay the doors that led to open space, "Let us come with you!"
"Bring the ship!" Before standing up and facing Primrose, he looked back at Viva and gave her a few instructions, "We'll meet you there! Let me take care of this."
Viva was left disappointed by his behavior and punched the door, "What?! I don't understand."
"Viva, my daughter." King Peppy calmly placed his hand on her shoulders and advised, "Branch's love for Poppy is bigger than any universe worth saving."
That made Viva ponder about her interpretation of affections, as she didn't have much experience from spending all those years in isolation away from her loved ones. She regained consciousness and concluded, "Wanna kick some lizard butt?"
"Thought you'd never ask." King Peppy ripped his vest away and yelled like a warrior as he charged at the Geckos and squashed them with his voluminous rear. Viva laughed embarrassingly at her father as she used her hair as a whip on the way to the cockpit.
Back in action, Primrose handcuffed Poppy with the pop pipes and wrapped a gummy worm around Froggy, "Keep your mouth shut for the sake of your existence."
"Affirmative." Froggy answered with a shaky vibrancy to his recording.
Poppy groaned as she attempted to break free from her shackles, "Ugh! Mom! Why are you doing this?! Wouldn't it be much easier if we just talked this through?"
"Hmmm." Primrose scratched her chin and ironized, "But the sentimental station is closed right now, sorry."
"Stop in the name of the law!" Branch came to the rescue as he jumped into the scene with a successful heroic pose this time. He quickly threw a pop pipe at Primrose's hands and caught her off guard.
Primrose's expression dropped down at the sight of the boyfriend as she was pressured onto the floor by Branch's sudden movements, "You."
"Branch!" Poppy was eager to see him as she tried to reach him but her shackles didn't allow her to do so, "You came."
"Of course I did." Branch ran toward her and held her face softly, "I would never leave you."
Poppy looked down and sighed, "Even after what I did..."
"Everyone knows you didn't mean it. We all love you, Poppy." Branch explained as he stepped aside and pointed out the battle going on in the distance, "They're here for you."
"Wait, are..." Poppy's first thought went to her family and she questioned it at first.
Until Branch shushed her and winked, signaling that their presence was going to be used as a secret weapon. Primrose searched in the corner and found one of her sickening gadgets, "Aha!" She shot dry play-dough at Branch and gooed him to the wall.
"Gah!" Branch groaned in pain as the dry play-dough felt like a rock-frozen prison.
Poppy's luck, she had been freed by her boyfriend while her mother was occupied searching for a weapon to use against Branch. She rushed to him and tried to pull him away as she blamed her mother, "Branch! Oh no! Mom, what did you do."
"Rotten play-dough, baby." Primrose blew her handcuffs away as she cut it with a stylus, "Got it from a gumbo land."
"Watch out!" Branch yelled as the escape pod braced for impact onto the surface of the planet.
The tiny escape pod crashed onto the swampy waters from the planet of Bog Waterandia, the trolls were a bit dizzy by the inadequate landing. Primrose shook her cares away and pulled onto Poppy's forearm aggressively, "You're coming with me."
"No." Poppy replied as she pulled away with greater strength, "You can't boss me around. I have my own life. The life I built without all these years. We can make up for that, but not here and not like this."
Branch observed his girlfriend proudly, her maturity had surely evolved and her capability of handling emotionally draining situations had improved. Primrose was left affected by her words for a moment, she had a stronger shell though. She said, "W-We have to go."
This time she didn't even pull Poppy away, she just walked off into the landscape. Poppy noticed the sudden change of attitude and looked at Branch for confirmation, "I'm going after her."
"Go." Branch recited, "It's the only way she'll listen."
Poppy nodded and went into action. Her mother was standing there in front of the nasty marsh they came to, she looked back at her daughter and sniffed a great amount of dead fish smell and crocodile poop. She cried, "Smells like home."
"Mom, there's a lot to unpack here." Poppy approached her with a non-invasive tone, "Do you think we can talk?"
Primrose gripped her fists and answered shakily, "I have already said this before, Poppy. There is nothing to talk about. We're already where we need to be and we'll be safe here. Together. Forever and ever."
"I just think you're a bit insecure about this whole situation and I think it'll be beneficial for both of us if you open up to me." Poppy grabbed her arm and guided her to a log in front of the water as they sat together, "On our own time of course!"
"I-" Primrose was going to be aggressive as always but something inside of her changed her mind. She confessed, "I am insecure, Poppy. All these years, away from you, Viva, and my husband. It's been damaging and hurtful and what hurts the most is... I left because I wanted to."
Poppy bobbed her head to indicate she was openly listening to her moment of truth, "Oh, mom... That's aw.."
"No, don't say anything." Primrose interrupted her as tears began to roll down her eyes, "Time got the best of me and it convinced me to try anything to never lose you again. The moment you showed up at that restaurant. I thought I got my second chance... But then I saw how attached you were to your life on earth that I freaked out and just... did all this to have you with me."
"But why didnt you consider coming back home with me?" Poppy asked carefully, trying not to startle any aggressive feelings.
"I don't know." Primrose wiped her tears and continued, "Maybe I was just too scared to look at everyone's eyes after abandoning them all those years ago."
"You don't have to be afraid." A man with a familiar confident, yet trembly old voice spoke from the nearing distance.
"We're not mad at you, mom." A much younger troll spoke with a bubbly voice with a tone similar to Poppy's
Primrose gasped as she turned around and got the sight of her loving husband and older daughter. She covered her mouth and said, "Oh my Gosh."
"Darling." King Peppy swiftly took a seat next to his wife and comforted her, "I don't think I will ever understand your choice to leave the Trolls. But that was so long ago that it merely affected our lives. Our daughters grew up to be strong, independent leaders. Viva led a group of isolated trolls for 20 years by herself and Poppy is Queen."
"Oh, Viva." Primrose stood up and kissed Viva's cheeks, "You are so brave, my little girl."
Viva teared up as she replied while containing her feelings, "Thank you, Mom."
Primrose looked back at Poppy and asked curiously, "Poppy, you're a queen? You didn't tell me that."
Poppy chuckled nervously, "Well..."
"That explains why you are as strong and wise as you are." Primrose held her hand and complimented her after saying untrue adjectives priorly.
"And yet I'm just a silly old man." King Peppy said in a dad-like way.
"You're much more than that." Primrose flirted as she pulled him close and gave him a beloved kiss in the mouth. The girls cheered and joined in with them in a warm family hug. And just like that, family balance is restored. Fireworks from the Disco Trolls come from the background to set a happy mood.
The family now reunited returned to the Tulip that parked a few miles away from the crashing site, except for Poppy who waited for Branch who had finally broken through the dried-out play-dough. He breathed, "Whew, that wasn't easy."
"I love you." Poppy couldn't wait any longer to say it so she just grabbed onto his vest and shared a magnificent romantic kiss on the lips with him. His eyes widened out of surprise but he quickly got the memo and reciprocated the act of affection.
After a long ride of ups and downs, action, adventure, music, and most importantly, love. The journey is concluded and all the trolls resume their respective lives with newfound allies, friends, and love interests. With this adventure, the trolls learned a powerful and meaningful lesson that will carry out for the rest of their lives.
