Setting The Record Straight

Deep in the woods, Synth was sobbing his eyes out on a log. There were so many emotions swirling within his heart: sadness, anger, frustration, and most of all, fear.

Synth's Mind: Oh man, this is it! Everyone's got a copy of the record to hear the song! Now things are gonna get crazy heated between the Techno Trolls and the Hard Rock Trolls!

This crying didn't go unnoticed, especially a female Pop-Rock Troll with magenta skin and lavender hair with pink highlights, held up in a ponytail with a golden scrunchie. She hair-jumped up to the log and balanced her way towards the tearful Techno ambassador

Female Pop-Rock Troll: Hey. Are you... okay?

Synth looked up towards her, but he was unable to answer. He may not have been exposed to Hard Rock culture that much, but he could tell from the leather jacket she was wearing that she must be a Hard Rock Troll, the sight of whom caused him to panic. He almost fell off the log, but he swiftly grabbed his arm and pulled him back up.

Female Pop-Rock Troll: Woah, woah, easy! I'm not gonna hurt you; I just heard you crying and came to see if you needed someone to talk to. (offering her hand out for a handshake) I'm Melody Song, but you can call me Melody, or Melly for short.

Synth could now see that she was friendly, so he accepted her offered handshake with his own (still trembling) hand.

  Synth: Uh, I'm Synth.

Melody: Nice to meet you, Synth.

After shaking hands, Melody sat down right next to the Techno ambassador.

Melody: So, what's got you down?

Synth: Well, you see... have you... seen or heard any Trolls... playing some sort of... record?

Melody: Now that you mention it, I do remember Val asking me to help her destroy this record that played, as she dubbed it, "a super-sappy, sad song."

Upon hearing this response, Synth emitted a quick gasp before his sobbing resumed.

Melody: Hey, hey, it's gonna be okay. I'm sure she'll find it-

Synth: No, this whole mess is all my fault!

Melody: Your fault? What do you mean?

Synth: Because that song... is mine!!!!!

  Melody: (gasp) Your song?

Synth nodded in reply, while whimpering like a Cuddle Pup in a thunderstorm.

Melody: Oh. Then why are you so worried about other Trolls hearing it? I mean, isn't that the whole point of music? Getting to share something with others?

Synth: That song was just made to vent out my feelings; no one was actually supposed to hear it! But now everyone has, and I'm scared of all the drama that's gonna rise!

The dark-purple Techno Troll buried his face in his hands and continued his nervous whimpering. Feeling really bad for him, Melody placed her hand on his back. Suddenly, she got an idea and reached into her hair.

Melody: Synth, I want you to look at this.

  Synth: What is it?

From her hair, she pulled out a magenta vinyl record with a lavender-pink center and showed it to her new Techno friend.

Melody: It's just a record I've had for a while now. You know this song?

After looking at the record for a little while (and reading the center), Synth gasped in realization.

Synth: Yo, this one of my favorite songs!

  Melody: It is?

Synth: Yeah! It's so sad, and yet it dives so deep into the importance of family and how much your loved ones matter!

Melody: (chuckling) I'm glad to see you like it so much... because I happen to be the writer of that song.

  Synth: Woah! Really?

Melody: Yep. It was inspired by... a bad fight I had with my cousin on the day of the World Tour.

Synth: (gasp) It came from the World Tour?

Melody: Yeah. I poured my emotions into this song, and then after a while, when the World Tour ended, I... shared my song with some of the other Hard Rock Trolls, including Queen Barb.

Synth: You did? But why? Weren't you worried about what they'd think, or scared of stirring up drama with your cousin if they heard it?

Melody: Not at all. They were my feelings about what happened, and I knew that no matter how sad they might be, they deserved to be shared. Even if I physically couldn't say them, I could in music. By doing so, all of the other Hard Rock Trolls, including Queen Barb and even my cousin, had a better understanding of how I felt. That made our bond grow stronger, and my cousin and I grew closer.

  Synth: Awww!

Melody: My point is, it's good to share those sad feelings with the Trolls around you, in person or in song. It enables them to understand you in a new light and get to know more about the reason behind your feelings. Sure, there might be tension or drama sometimes, but in the end, everyone's gonna respect you coming forward and being brave enough to tell your story. Plus it'll help them get to know you better, and you'll be a lot closer with them.

Synth: Thanks, Melly. I didn't know how much I needed to hear that.

Melody: Well, that's what friends are for.

Smiling, the two shared a fist bump.

Synth: Y'know, you've mentioned your cousin a lot, and they seem like a good Troll. Do I know them?

Melody: (chuckling) You could say that.

Suddenly, Val, Poppy, Branch, Laguna, Holly, R&B came bursting out of the bushes, all exhausted from searching for Synth.

Holly: Dang y'all, we've looked every-

  Val: Melly?

With that, the other searching Trolls glanced over in the same direction Val was looking and saw Synth sitting there.

  Melody: Val?

Cooper: (popping out of literally nowhere) Cooper! I do not know what I'm doing here!

Giving his signature laughter, Cooper ran off and disappeared into the bushes. With that, everyone turned their attention back towards Melody.

Synth: You two know each other?

Val: Of course we do; Melly's my younger cousin.

Upon hearing this revelation, the Techno ambassador's jaw dropped like a beat, and his new Pop-Rock friend confirmed the shocking statement with a sheepish smile.

Melody: Yeah. Val's the cousin I was talking about.

Branch: Synth, we've been looking for you everywhere!

  Poppy: Are you okay?

  Laguna: How are you feeling?

  Synth: A lot better, actually.

Holly: Are ya still worried 'bout ever'one hearin' your song?

Blues: Or all the ensuing Techno-Rock drama?

Synth: (chuckling) You know what? I was at first, but I got some good advice from a new friend, who told me that it's okay to share the sad feelings I have sometimes. They're my emotions, and I want to share them with others so they can understand how I felt about the World Tour and everything that happened. It might even help the Techno Trolls grow closer with the other tribes, especially the Hard Rock Trolls.

Poppy, Branch, Holly, Val, Laguna, R&B: Awwww!

Poppy: So, ready to head back to TrollsTopia?

Synth: Yeah. After everything that happened today, I could really use one thing.

Melody: Let me guess- a rave?

  Synth: Nope, a nap.

Everyone broke out into laughter as they all started making their way back to TrollsTopia.

Meanwhile, down in Techno Reef, a certain undersea king was listening to a copy of Synth's record in his LED castle.

  Trollex: Amazing song... brother.
