Chapter 8 - Bottom Of Your Soul

Branch woke up in high hopes. He put on his clothes, are breakfast and left to go to school with Peppy. Poppy was still asleep and still in a lot of pain, so she stayed under the care of Rosie. As Branch and Peppy arrived at the school, everything seemed normal. That's because Poppy wasn't there. Peppy and Branch walked straight into the principal's office. The 2 sat down and spoke with the principle. The principal knew exactly what was happening. "So why don't you do anything to stop it?" Branch asked angrily. "She's grey." The principal responded without a care. "Do you know why she's grey?" Peppy asked. "What does it matter? She's grey." The principal replied. "No No no. I'm going to explain to you that this is wrong." Branch said standing up. "You give me more of that attitude, i'll give you detention." The Principal said. "I don't care. I'm standing up for my friend and I will take the risk. She is grey because her mother passed away. On top of ALL that grief she had to face of losing someone she loved oh so dearly to her heart, All her friends turned against her. You have any idea how much pain she's been put through? Both emotionally and physically. She's been punched, people tease her about her mother. You have nay idea how she feels? No! If you can't comprehend that, then you are one hell of a principal." Branch snapped. "I agree with Branch." A voice said from behind. Branch turned around to see his friend Biggie. "Biggie? I thought you hate her too." Branch said in confusion. "I dont hate her. I just didn't want to get bullied for being friends with her. I also think it's wrong. But what could I do? Everyone would just pick on me for my size." Biggie said depressingly. Branch got up and looked Biggie in the eye. "If we're gonna make this right, I'm gonna need your help." Branch said to him. Biggie nodded in agreement.

Back at Branch's house, Poppy had woken up and looked around in confusion and had no idea where she was. Rosie then walked in. "Oh good. you're awake." She said. Poppy tried to move but then felt sharp pain everywhere. "Don't try and move dear." Rosie said before sitting on the bed beside her. "Branch told me about what happens to you in school. He told your father too and they went off to sort this out." She explained. "What?! No! He'll kill me!" Poppy cried in panic. "Nobody's is going to kill you dear. You are safe. Branch will handle Creek." Rosie said in a comforting voice. "I'm sorry I dragged Branch into this." Poppy said. "You didn't drag him into anything. He dragged himself into this. Because he couldn't see you get treated like that." Rosie explained. "Thanks for... for treating my wounds. Mrs..." Poppy started. "Oh please dear, call me Rosie. And you're welcome. You were in pretty bad condition." Rosie finished. "How did I end up here?" Poppy asked in confusion. "Branch found you in that alley and carried you here." Rosie explained. Poppy was in shock when she heard that. She knew Branch cared for her safety but she didn't think he cared that much. Rosie and Poppy continued talking about their personal lives and their families until Rosie left the room to let Poppy rest a bit more. But Poppy didn't rest. She pulled out a picture of her mother from her hair and just looked at it. She teared up at the picture and broke into song. She started singing the chorus of Bottom Of Your Soul by Toto.

Why is it always the ones that we love

Are the ones that will never come home?

Why must all of the bridges we cross take their toll?

(Always remember) Always remember the voice in your head

Speaks to you when you're alone

And it comforts you

Oh it comforts you

Why is it always the ones that we love

Are the ones that will never come home?

Why must all of the bridges we cross take their toll?

(Always remember) Always remember the voice in your head

Speaks to you when you're alone

And it comforts you

From the top of your heart

To the bottom of your soul
