Chapter 5 - Helping A Bergen
Poppy had no idea what was happening. Was the maid going to eat her? Set her free? Is the maid as evil as the chef? She had no idea. She was just so scared. She'd never been so scared in her life. She looked up at the scullery maid, panting and holding the bars with her arms with puppy eyes. A look on her face that read fear, fear, and...well fear. The maid noticed this. Bridget was the only bergen who actually understands how the trolls feel about being eaten. "Don't look at me like that! I find it just as messed up as you do that we eat trolls!" Bridget said in frustration. Branch watched in shock. A bergen who understood how he felt. Was Branch dreaming? The look on Poppy's face eased a bit. "I won't eat you. I promise! You little trolls are just like us. People, trying to get on with life. right?" Bridget said in a calm voice. Poppy nodded nervously. "Except you guys are happier, cuter... much better singers..." Bridget said depressingly. "Scullery Maid! Wash these dishes for Trollstice! The King's inviting everyone... Except you!" Chef demanded as the dishes and pots came crashing down from above. Bridget sighed and started washing them. Branch then snuck up from behind her and climbed up to where the cage where Poppy was. Poppy sitting down in the cage. Trying to think about what to do. Branch saw Poppy but she didn't see him. He knocked on the bars. "Psst, Poppy!" Branch whispered. "Branch?" She said confused. "Shh" Branch shushed holding his finger on his lip. He used some scissors to pick to lock to the cage and let her out. Poppy gave him a great big hug. Branch wasn't big on hugs so he pushed her away. "Thank You Branch! I thought you hated me!" Poppy whispered to Branch to show her gratitude. "I never hated you, I just hated your positivity." Branch relied before Bridget noticed Poppy was out of the cage. "Hey! Where do you think you're going?!" She yelled. Poppy screamed and Branch gasped. They both ran in different directions. For some reason, Bridget went after Branch. Branch was holding a fork and Bridget was about to hit him with a utensil. Poppy was on the top of Bridget's bed and his behind some curtains... which contained some pictures of Bridget and the King which were cut out and pasted over romantic magazine pages. Poppy realized that Bridget was in love with the king. Bridges was about to hit Branch with that kitchen intensive. Until she heard "BRIDGET STOP!" From Poppy. Bridget looked over to the pink troll. "You're in Love with King Gristle!" Poppy yelled. "Uh, I don't know what you're talking about..." Bridget said nervously. Poppy then opened the curtains, revealing all the secrets. Bridget ran towards the bed and and closed it. "Uh excuse me... Thats not mine!" She said nervously., Poppy then opened a part that had the picture of Bridget and Gristle. "(Sighs) What does it matter? It's not like he knows i'm alive." Bridget said depressingly. "Bridget, I can help you! What if there was a way, you could get what you wanted?" Poppy said convincingly. "Please, a date with King Gristle? As if. His royal awesomeness would never talk to a scullery maid like me." Bridget replied depressingly. "What if he didn't know you were a scullery maid? What if he thought you were this total babe?" Poppy said again convincingly. "What type of total babe would dress like a scullery maid? I smell like gravy." Bridget replied looking at her apron. "Oh i can help with that!" Poppy replied as 2 of her best friends were fashion designers. "What about my hair?" Bridget asked. "Hello? I'm a troll. I can help with that too!" Poppy replied sarcastically. "And I don't even know what a total babe would say." Bridget replied. "I can help with that too!" Poppy replied enthusiastically. "Really?" Bridget asked as she went really close to Poppy which scared the little troll a bit but not much. "What do you say Bridget? I'll get you a date with the king!" Poppy said enthusiastically. "But don't i have to do something for you in return?" Bridget asked curiously. "Well you didn't eat me so that's enough compensation." Poppy replied gratefully. Bridget put her hand on the pictures. "Let's do it." She said confidently. "A 5,6,7,8!" Poppy exclaimed as she started to sing."WAIT!" Bridget yelled. "Why isn't this one singing?" She asked pointing to Branch. "Come on Branch, Sing with me!" Poppy pleaded. "Oh no, thats OK." Branch replied. "You dont think this will work?" Bridget asked. "Oh no its not that. I just don't sing." Branch said in the nicest way possible. "Branch!" Poppy yelled. "No he's right! This is a horrible idea!" Bridget said before crying on the bed. Branch scoffed. "I came here to rescue a Princess. I've done that. Now lets go home." Branch said before pulling Poppy's arms. "Branch no, I'm going to help her. And you better to!" Poppy demanded. "Wow I come all this way to save you from a horrible traumatic death and this is how you repay me? Yeah right." Branch said angrily. "Why won't you help? Why won't you sing?" Poppy Asked. "I Don't want to!" Branch yelled back. "WHY NOT? WHY ARE YOU SO GREY?!" Poppy Snapped. "BECAUSE SINGING KILLED MY GRANDMA OK!... Now leave me alone." Branch yelled. Poppy never thought about how he became grey. "How did singing kill your grandma? What song was she singing?" Poppy asked. "I was the one singing." Branch said in a sad voice. This opened up a whole new perspective of Branch to Poppy. She could sympathise with him. She lost her mother when she was very young and she knows the pain of losing a loved one. Branch looked out the window with sad eyes. "I'm so sorry Branch, I had no idea. I just assumed you had a terrible voice." Poppy said in a calm manner. "No no it was like an angels... Atleast thats what Grandma used to say..." Branch replied. Poppy ran over to him and gave him a big hug. "Whoa what are you doing? It's not hug time..." Branch said surprised. "I just thought you could use one." Poppy whispered to him. Branch didn't like hugs but this was his special girl ;) so he decided to admit defeat and hug her back. "OK OK I'll help. But I am still not singing!" Branch demanded. Poppy smirked at him. "Ok guys. HAIR WE GO!" She yelled as she stood on top of Bridget's head and extended her hair into a beautiful rainbow wig. Then Poppy helped Bridget pick out the best outfit from her wardrobe.
