KanjigAaarrrgghh!!! Part III
A/N: Hi, guys! The wonderful fan art was done by Wattpad user: SolacePrime1234. The art piece is if Draal and Monica participated in a Halloween Party and that they would dress up as Beauty and the Beast. Again, if you want to do fan-art for the story, I would love to see it and if you want it posted on this story, I will gladly do so and give you credit for your work.
We stood there waiting for Aaarrrgghh to return from the Void and when he did, Claire questioned, "Aaarrrgghh, what did you see?
"Did you meet the spooky troll ghosts?" Toby questioned. When Aaarrrgghh opened his eyes, they were not Aaarrrgghh's they were glowing a bright blue and when Aaarrrgghh spoke, the voice was not his own, "He did convene with us. But, I am not Aarghaumont."
"Kanjigar, the Courageous." Blinky stated and bowed to him. My eyes widened in shock.
"Wait! What?" Toby exclaimed.
"At ease, Blinkous. Yes, it is I." Kanjigar declared.
"It is you... Father." Draal said while walking up to him. Kanjigar turned to his son and said, "Well met. My son." The two embraced and I was smiled. I was so excited for him. He got to actually hug his father again. Sort of.
"But, how! What has happened to Aaarrrgghh?" Draal questioned.
"Your friend is here with me. Aaarrrgghh walked the line between life and death, so he alone could become a vessel for me to aid you." Kanjigar began to explained, but Toby interrupted him, "Whoa, whoa, whoa! Hey, there, troll-tergeist. Give me my wingman back!" Kanjigar walked over to him as I made my way to Draal and took his hand. Draal looked at me and gave me a smile.
"At ease, Tobias Domzalski, I will only stay until my work is done." Kanjigar assured him.
"But, excuse me, Lord sir Kanjig- Aaarrrgghh... What exactly are you here to do?" Claire wondered.
"I thought you knew. Only a Trollhunter can open the Killahead Bridge." Kanjigar said.
The gate opened and the guards exclaimed, "There they are!" Behind them came a very unhappy Vendel. We are so in trouble. Vendel ordered, "I knew it! Detain them. Find the staff!" Draal looked at his father and seemed to know what he was thinking. He charged towards the guards at the gate and Kanjigar declared, "For the glory of Merlin, Daylight is mine to command!" He prepared for battle as Vendel and two more guards came up to us.
"Aaarrrgghh? What dark powers have you meddled with?" Vendel questioned.
The Hero's Forge turned on. Blinky, Claire, and I made it to safety, but Toby was still on the training course and he was about to fall, but Kanjigar quickly caught him and brought him to safety. Blinky, Claire, and I went to the gate where Draal stood guard and Kanjigar and Toby met us there. Kanjigar urged, "We have little time. This will take us to Bone's Alley."
"But, Father-" Draal said.
"Follow me, son. We are together at last." Kanjigar said. When got to the entrance of Bone's Alley, there were two guards. Kanjigar signaled for us to stay back. Then, he scaled the wall of the entrance. The guards started to come our way when they heard some noise, but Kanjigar quickly dropped on top of them and knocked the two guards out. He pulled them out of sight, then signaled that it was safe to come across.
"That was so cool." I whispered to Draal.
"Kanjigar's creeping spider. A signature move." Blinky explained.
"This guy's a legend." Toby said.
"Hurry! Claire Nunez, I require a portal to Killahead Bridge. Quickly." Kanjigar ordered as we entered Blinky's library. He began collecting several items. He threw those items into the portal as soon as Claire made it.
"Quick, everyone through!" Kanjigar demanded. Suddenly, Claire's staff was knocked out of her hand and the staff flew into the portal leaving us stranded here. We turned around to see one of the guards had reached us. Kanjigar marched over to the guard and knocked him out. He turned to us and announced, "We'll take the gyre."
Once we reached the gyre, Blinky asked, "Kanjigar, why don't you simply talk with Vendel and the Tribunal? Surely, one of Trollmarket's greatest champions could persuade--" But, Blinky was interrupted by Kanjigar who stated, "Talking requires time, Blinkous, something we do not have."
When we all got on, I asked, "What do you mean by that?"
"Monica Lake, things are dire. If we do not act now. Your brother, James Lake, Jr. will die." Kanjigar said. Jim. The gyre was activated and I held on as we moved at incredible. As we were driving the gyre, Blinky wondered, "But, Killahead's in the woods. There's no gyre station there."
"We don't need one." Kanjigar said. Again, what did he... oh no. Now, I understand.
We came to a complete stop, then Draal shielded me as Kanjigar drove the gyre up into the roof. Once we landed, it took me a moment to gain my surroundings. Draal helped me up and asked, "Are you alright?"
"Yes, I am. What about you?" I wondered. Draal cave me a curt nod.
"Oh, dear. We are officially fugitives from Trollmarket." Blinky said.
"Get a hold of yourself, Blinky. We'll deal with that once we have Jim back." I said.
"Monica Lake is right. Forget what they think. We must concentrate on what we do. We have all that we need." Kanjigar said.
"And then some." Claire commented.
"Okay, how does this crazy crime spree help us save Jimbo, exactly?" Toby wondered.
"Friends, I have seen the impossible. A vision of you saving James Lake, Jr. But, to do so, you must follow the path I lay before you." Kanjigar explained.
"We've done the impossible before. We can handle it." Claire stated.
"I have my war hammer! It's hungry to smash." Toby declared.
"No, no weapons." Kanjigar ordered. Then, he continued, "In my plan, you will need nothing else but the knowledge and tools I will give to you." He held out his hands and Toby and Claire handed their weapons over.
"What possible chance do we stand if we are unarmed?" Blinky questioned.
"I said no weapons for you, but you will have the aid of the Wielder of the Thriskule. It will be her job to keep the rest of you safe." Kanjigar said. My eyes widened. I will really be the only one allowed to have their weapon? Okay, Monica. Breathe. You've gotten a lot better at using the Thriskule. I felt a hand on my shoulder and turned to see Draal giving me a grin. I gave a small smile knowing what he meant. I can do this. I will protect my loved ones at all costs.
Kanjigar continued, "For the rest of you, each of you will be charge with a task. You must follow them to the letter if there is any hope of survival. Claire Nunez, take this. In the Darklands, it will aid you in a key moment." Kanjigar explained while handing her a strange metal tool. She thanked him uncertainly, then he continued, "Blinkous, take this flare crystal. It's blinding light will save your life."
"My life? Could I get some specificity on that statement especially since you said that Monica would keep us safe?" Blinky questioned.
"Come on. Have a little bit of faith in me." I said.
"You know what I mean." Blinky snapped back.
But, Kanjigar ignored the two of us and looked towards Toby, "Tobias Domzalski." Toby got really excited and wondered what his assignment would be. Kanjigar said, "You must ensure that your team only brings back James Lake, Jr. No one else."
"Okay. Got it. Just Jim. Guess I got good advice." Toby mumbled.
"Father, what is my task?" Draal asked. Kanjigar came over towards the two of us and explained, "I know you wish to go into battle, but I need you here."
"I can help! I wish to protect my friends and protect my..." Draal looked at me and I gave him an encouraging smile. He took my hand, looked at his father, and said, "And to protect the woman whom I've fallen in love with." My cheeks flushed a bright red.
Kanjigar looked between the two of us and gave a knowing look while saying, "I've known about you two for quite some time."
"You have. What do you-" Draal was interrupted by Kanjigar, who said, "What do I think of the two you? Well, son. I'm not entirely surprised. You've always had strange tastes when it came to the female species."
"Wait... You two are dating?!" Claire exclaimed. Guess we forgot to tell her. Whoops.
Kanjigar continued, "Now, regarding your task. Of all of you, your responsibility is greatest. You keep watch so that Gunmar does not escape. If your friends or the woman you love do not come back, you must make a choice."
"To destroy the bridge?" Draal wondered.
"If you must." Kanjigar said.
"I understand." Draal said. Kanjigar and Draal pressed their foreheads together, then Kanjigar placed his hand on my shoulder and gave me a soft smile. After that, he turned to the rest of the group and declared, "Now then, you all have your orders!"
"Wait. This is all happening so fast. We don't even know our way around the Darklands." Claire pointed out.
"But, your gnome, who survived it, does." Kanjigar explained looking behind Claire, Blinky, and Toby. They turned around and that's when I noticed Chompsky. He must've gotten thrown into the portal when Kanjigar threw in all the books and equipment. Kanjigar continued, "He will be a guide and more. Jim's time is short. I sense Gunmar readying to destroy him."
Chompsky was very hesitant to do this task. Toby went up to him and said, "Chompsky, I promise, if you find Jim. I'll buy you the Sally-Go-Back moon base. So everybody pitch in. Those things are pricey."
Kanjigar stepped forward and tapped the amulet. It glowed a bright blue and the Killahead Bridge reformed. Blinky stepped forward and asked, "What is the plan, Kanjigar? I have more questions than answers."
"I cannot reveal more, for to know your future is to risk dooming it. Trust in yourselves and me, and all will be clear soon enough." Kanjigar said.
"Don't worry! With super Trollhunter Kanjig-Aaarrrgghh and Monica with her ability to turn the tides of battle by our side, three for one, boom! We can't lose!" Toby exclaimed.
"I'm afraid I will not be joining you into the Darklands. After I open the Bridge, I must use the last of my power to keep it open." Kanjigar said.
"Wait. Your leaving?" Claire questioned in disbelief.
"You will need Aaarrrgghh, not I. He will make his own way." Kanjigar said.
"Oh, dear. Is that another one of your riddles?" Blinky wondered.
"One revolution of the amulet's arm is all the time I can grant you before the bridge closes! Best of luck, Trollhunters!" Kanjigar proclaimed. He opened the bridge and exited Aaarrrgghh's body. Aaarrrgghh was disoriented at first, then he understood the mission stating, "Save Jim."
In his spirit form, Kanjigar proclaimed, "Remember what you must do my son!" Draal nodded and Kanjigar gave him one last smile before disappearing into the amulet.
"This whole thing is nuts. Are we really doing this?" Claire pondered.
"Uh, I think we are, but I was only half listening, he was talking really fast. I don't know what we're supposed to be doing!" Toby exclaimed.
"We're saving Jim! That what we're doing." I reminded them giving them a huge grin. This is finally happening. We're rescuing my brother.
"Worry not! We'll get through this as we always do, together." Blinky declared.
I turned back to Draal and said, "We'll back soon, Draal. Keep the door open for as long as you can." Draal nodded.
I turned back to the others and asked, "For Jim?"
"For Jim!" The others exclaimed and we charged into the Darklands.
When we entered the Darklands, it took a moment to adjust to the lighting in there. How to describe that place. The best way to describe it is that it reminded me of huge cave filled with various labyrinths that were dimly lit by a greenish glow.
"Oh dear. Such is the stuff of nightmares." Blinky said. In the distance, we could hear a creature snarling. This place was terrifying. I summoned the Thriskule. I had to be prepared.
"Uh, lets not stay one minute longer than we need to, huh? Chompsky, do you know where they're keeping Jim?" Toby questioned. Chompsky gave a chattered response and jumped off of Toby's shoulder. We followed him as he led the way towards Jim. We were finally going to my brother back. I don't what I'll do when I see him. There's a 50/50 chance I will hug him and cry or punch him in the face for leaving us. Both sound tempting.
After a while of walking in almost pitch black darkness, Blinky wondered about his flare, "Perhaps, I'm meant to use the flare."
"Kanjigar said you use it to save your life. I don't think that's right now." Claire said.
"Why do the Darklands have to be so dark, man? I can't see a thing." Toby complained. He just about fell to his death, but Aaarrrgghh quickly caught him.
"How am I to discern when my life depends on it. Such infernal instructions. They're both cryptic and oblique. What if my indecisiveness is cause for our undoing?" Blinky questioned. He jumped onto a rock, but stumbled, while he regained his footing, he dropped the flare. Great. Just great. He cursed, "Oh, ahh! Cragglesnacks!"
"Really?" Aaarrrgghh questioned.
"I know. You would think having four hands would be more helpful. Oh, but alas, my accursed butter digits." Blinky grumbled.
"Blinky, you needed that! You're going to die without it!" Toby exclaimed.
"I'm aware of that!" Blinky shouted while shaking Toby. Then, he started to panic, "Okay, no one panic. Don't panic. Everyone, stop panicking! Your rope! Yes, we can retrieve it. Kanjigar thought of everything." Aaarrrgghh rapped the roped around a ledge and they began to make their descent down.
"But, Jim is running out of time." Claire pointed out.
Yes, you four go ahead. Aaarrrgghh will help me retrieve the flare. We'll be right behind." Blinky said.
"I should come with you." I said.
"No, we'll be fine, Monica. We'll be back before you know it." Blinky said. I wanted to argue more, but we really didn't have the time. We went our separate ways.
"Hang on, Jim." I said.
"We're coming." Claire stated.
Toby was scared as we went off, but Claire calmed him down by saying that he had two girls to protect him. As Chompsky kept leading us further into the Darklands, my hopes began to rise. We were so close to Jim. I could feel it.
"Ugh. It's like an Escher painting threw up in here." Claire said as she observed our surroundings. Suddenly, Chompsky stopped and signaled for us to follow him. He led us to the side and I could hear someone approaching. We turned around and saw... were those what I think they are?
"Are those Gumm-Gumms and goblins?" Toby gasped. Toby whimpered as we headed on our way again. Chompsky was starting to move really far ahead and turned a corner.
"Slow down, Chompsky!" Claire called out.
"Do you think we're getting close?" Toby questioned.
"We have to be." I said.
"Toby, Claire, Monica! Up here! I'm up here!" I heard a familiar voice call out. I froze in my tracks. Have we really found him?
"Jim?" I questioned started to pick up the pace. Chompsky reappeared at the entrance with an excited look on his face and was beckoning to us to come.
"Jimbo? Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! Jimbo! You're not dead! Your not dead!" Toby exclaimed.
Toby beat me to him and Jim yelled, "It's you! It's you, Tobes! It's really you!"
Then, I embraced Jim and cried, "Jim, I was so worried."
Jim quickly embraced me as well while saying, "Monica! I've missed you so much." Then, we bombarded him with questions like if he was okay, which thankfully he said that he was and explained that he got the message: keep it crispy.
"Keep it crispy! I told you he'd get it, Claire." Toby said and we moved to the side so Claire could hug him too.
"Claire..." Jim said.
"Hey... you." Claire said and they held each others hands. Then, Jim said, "Hey. I can't believe you guys made it."
Claire laughed, "Wouldn't have missed it for the world."
"How did you--" Jim was interrupted by Toby who explained, "Oh, it's a long story. But, I'm glad you asked." We began to explain about how we got the bridge from the bottom of the ocean, how we brought Aaarrrgghh back, and how he merged with Kanjigar.
"Wait, what. Aaarrrgghh's alive?" Jim asked.
"Probably should catch you up later. We gotta get you outta here." Claire pointed out bringing us all back to the situation at hand.
"Okay, Tobes, hurry up and use your war hammer to bust me outta here." Jim said.
"But, um... But, we don't have our weapons. Only Monica has hers and her weapon won't do much against this." Toby explained.
"Wait a minute. Kanjigar said I needed this thing for a key moment. This is a key." Claire said while taking out the item that Kanjigar gave her. She put it into the key hole, but she was having trouble opening it. Even with Toby and I's help we couldn't get it open. Chompsky was alerting us that someone was approaching.
"Hurry, hurry, hurry! They're coming for him, guys!" Toby exclaimed. He grabbed Claire and I's hand.
"You gotta get out of here." Jim said.
"I'm not leaving you!" Claire exclaimed. She took the key out and we ran to hide in a small room. Suddenly, orange crystals shot out and blocked the entrance. Crap. We did not just get trapped in one of the cells, did we? Toby, Claire, and I backed up against the wall trying to keep out of sight as we heard people enter the room. We heard a voice proclaim, "Your time has come at last, fleshbag."
"Uh. Guys, I don't know. My stomach is feeling kind of off. You think maybe you could come back and-" Suddenly, Jim groaned. They did not just punch my baby brother.
"How does your stomach feel now?" The voice questioned.
"No! Let go of me! Wait! Stop!" Jim exclaimed. No Jim. We waited a few seconds, then Chompsky went out through one of the various small openings. I touched the orange crystal and yelped as it zapped me. Great. We were trapped. Just great.
