Randall Boggs, nowadays known by many as Randy(picture above), is a creature of slyness and cunning. A greedy and jealous creature who wishes for the top position of any contest he enters, from the Scare Games of Monster University to being the best scarer at Monsters Inc. He is confident in his ability, if not overconfident, and will do just about anything to be the best. Especially if Sully and Mike are involved. He hates them for taking his glory and will do even the most sadistic things to get back at them. He wasn't always like this however. It was a slow and gradual fall into revenge and hate for Randy.

It started back in Monsters University. He was completely different from today. He wore glasses and had freckle-like spots all over his face. He was shy and would try to hide from people, or rather other monsters. If he was surprised, his body would immediately camouflage itself with Randy's environment. He didn't even have full control over his camouflaging abilities yet. That changed when Mike became his roommate. After witnessing Randy's camouflaging ability, Mike suggested Randy join the Scare Program. Though surprised at this, Randy eventually joined the program with Mike, even sitting next to Mike as his new best friend. Then Sully came along...

At first, things were alright. Randy even helped Mike train for the Scare Games so he could best Sully and graduate the university. But then Randy was given an invitation to ROR(Roar Omega Roar), arguably the best group at the university. When Mike, who himself had joined OK(Osma Kampa), found out he needed one more member in order to participate in the Scare Games, only to find that Randy had joined ROR. After Sully joined OK, Mike was further away from Randy as a friend and was becoming more of a enemy. Especially since ROR was a power hungry group who were willing to cheat to win. This is where Randy started becoming more then a literal monster. In the last event of the Scare Games, Randy embarrassingly lost to Sully, was immediately kicked out of ROR, and swore that "-this won't be the last time you see me, Sullivan." He became bitter and power hungry just like ROR. He eventually got a job as a scarer at Monsters Inc.

Unfortunately, so did Sully and Mike. Sully easily became the top scarer, which made Randy all the more bitter towards him. After years of harboring a hatred for Sully and Mike, he became involved in a scheme with the head of the company that would land him a position of power and respect in Monsters Inc. Long story short, Randy was defeated and trapped in the human world being mistaken for a crocodile by some hillbillies. Mike and Sully turned Monsters Inc. from a place of scaring to a place of laughter.

In a comic by Disney, Randy eventually returned from the human world and became a part of another scheme, again with the ex-head of the old Monsters Inc. They were partnered with a human who had found his way into the monster world and wanted the patent for the door technology to become rich back in the human world. Their plan failed, again at the hands of Mike and Sully, and were put in prison for their crime. It was revealed recently that, along with the other Monsters Inc characters, Randy is to make an appearance in Kingdom Hearts 3 in the Monsters Inc. world. Outside of these, Randy's other appearances in anything Monsters Inc. related, mostly the games, has seen Randy as a changed monster and has become kind and fun-loving.

Randy has been considered one of the most liked and popular of the Monsters Inc. and Monsters University characters, appearing in many Disney related games. Most notably Disney Infinity, a game that takes inspiration and imagination, the "toys to life" idea that started with Skylanders, and of course all sorts of Disney nostalgia, into one game where you can create your own worlds and play as many of your favorite Disney characters. Randy included. Disney Infinity released three games: the first Disney Infinity which was just Disney and Pixar characters, then Disney Infinity 2.0 which included Marvel comics characters plus new playable Disney and Pixar characters, and finally Disney Infinity 3.0 which included Star Wars characters plus more Marvel characters and yet more playable Disney characters.

Though not much is mentioned about it, Randy has family outside the movies. His nephew, Rex, is a similar chameleon monster who is orange instead of purple like Randy. He appeared in Monsters University briefly as one of the students on the field trip to Monsters Inc. where Mike got his inspiration to be a scarer. Randy also has his mother, who apparently is the only person he cares about after becoming corrupt. His last name Boggs is interestingly an Irish surname.
