Straight from the land of Nightopia, NiGHTS(picture above) is a fun loving, chivalrous, and sometimes mischievous dream creature. Since it's a dream, its gender goes not matter all that much. It depends on your perspective of the Night Dimension. If you see NiGHTS as a girl, it's a girl. If you see NiGHTS as a boy, it's a boy. If you see NiGHTS as both genders, it's both. If you see NiGHTS as only a genderless dream creature, it's genderless. For this purpose, I'll refer to NiGHTS as a girl, but if you see her as male or any other way, that's fine too. In the Dream world, this is most likely so that NiGHTS can relate and bond with the Visitors of Nightopia much more than most probably could.

NiGHTS has the power to fly and levitate as she pleases. She can also transform into different things, from a dolphin to a boat to a race car and many more. This ability is achieved via by Personas, magical masks that grant power to its wearer. Her most recognized ability, however, is to dualize with others. This process is when NiGHTS and a Visitor become one being, giving you control and access to NiGHTS powers, with you and NiGHTS sharing control of the body. NiGHTS can also play an invisible flute and play a song called "Dreams dreams," which is the theme song of the Nights games.

She has a "brother" of-sorts named Reala, a Nightmaren with the same abilities as NiGHTS. He often tries to make NiGHTS surrender before fighting her. Reala often calls NiGHTS his "sibling" and will often play on NiGHTS' mercy, which often results in NiGHTS being caught in a cage specifically called Nights Capture. Both NiGHTS and Reala were created by Wiseman, a powerful god-like being who seeks to control all of the Night Dimension, and maybe the real world given the chance. Reala obeys Wiseman just like the rest of Wiseman's Nightmaren army, but NiGHTS rebels against Wiseman, for NiGHTS wants to feel free-will and freedom of thought. This causes Wiseman to constantly chase NiGHTS and convince her to return.

NiGHTS wants, and will, to destroy Wiseman and end his tyranny once and for all. This comes with a price for NiGHTS, however, because when Wiseman is destroyed, all that he created will be destroyed too, including NiGHTS. As chivalrous and selfless as this is, it does not mean the end for NiGHTS. Each Dream world is different from person to person, so just because one Dream world's NiGHTS and Wiseman are destroyed, another one will not be affected. Also, according to Owl(NiGHTS friend), a Visitor who visits Nightopia will wake up and upon dreaming again, will not remember the last time they visited Nightopia, suggesting everything pretty much resets. This could mean that NiGHTS can come back indefinitely till there's no one with the capacity to dream left, but of course, there will always be someone out there who has dreams, so NiGHTS will most likely be around til the end of time itself.

NiGHTS has two official games; Nights into dreams and Nights Journey to dreams. Both of them cover how NiGHTS, with the help of some Visitors as their called in the games, destroy Wiseman and herself in the process. Between the two games there are four different children involved, all feeling lonely, nervous, and frightened by their lives in the real world, which affects their respective Dream worlds. There is a sampler game called Christmas Nights into dreams, where everything is basically Christmas themed, including NiGHTS herself.

NiGHTS has been seen outside the video games and the Dream world. Archie Comics made a comic series based off the first Nights game Nights into dreams. Archie Comics also made a Sonic the hedgehog and Megaman crossover series and in it, Sigma wanted to rule different worlds and with the help of Tail's portal machine, Sonic, Megaman, and co. were able to recruit the help of different characters. Two of them were NiGHTS and Reala. The only reason Reala went along was because Wiseman told him to go along so that Sigma would not interfere with his plans to conquer Nightopia. In Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2, there is a chao you can raise that looks like NiGHTS. NiGHTS and Reala are also playable characters in Sonic and All-stars racing transformation, both taking physical forms of racing cars. NiGHTS also appears in Sonic Riders as a playable character.

NiGHTS has a circus like attire. In fact, all of Wiseman's Nightmaren army are reminiscent of the circus life. Considering Wiseman wants to take over Nightopia and more than 40% of the world's population is more afraid of clowns than they are of terrorist attacks, Wiseman made a great choice. Anyway, NiGHTS has a crystal fused to her. This crystal is an Ideya, a common source of power in Nightopia. Judging from the color of the Ideya, it's an Ideya of Courage. The comic actually explains why NiGHTS has this. According to the comic, the day NiGHTS escaped from Wiseman she also took his Ideyas and an Ideya of Courage amongst them, sensing the courage in NiGHTS had to escape, embedded itself in her(It's kinda like with Link and his Triforce of Courage if you think about it).
