Kokichi Oma
Name: Kokichi Oma
Franchise: Danganronpa
Gender: Male
Species: human
Kokichi Oma(picture above) is a rather interesting teenager indeed. Originally his last name was spelt "Ouma," but then the people behind Danganronpa removed the "u" from his name, along with other students names. Kokichi's first name in Japanese means "small luck" and his last name of Oma in Japanese translates to "King horse". This is supposed to relate to how Kokichi looks like any normal boy, but he isn't what he seems. What many fans know Kokichi best for, however, is his habit of ever constant lying to get what he wants. Kokichi said aloud that he even lies to himself in order to keep his own sanity. It's unknown whether or not he purposely lies all the time or if his lying is somewhat uncontrollable. It was so bad that one of the students said that, after Kokichi was killed, he was the embodiment of "lie" itself. And yes, Kokichi is unfortunately deceased now. That, nor his lying, hasn't stopped fans from adoring him as a fan favorite. He was even voted in a poll to be the second most favorite student out of 17 students in the game Danganronpa v3: Killing Harmony, Kokichi's debut and last appearance.
He was one of 17 students to be included in Monakuma's killing game. A killing game is similar to the Reaper's game, except the people participating in the game have no contact at all with outsiders other then the mastermind behind the particular killing game and the people in the game. The players must find the killer and mastermind in order to win the game and prevent further killing. Throughout the entire killing game, Kokichi lies about almost all the time, even just after we're introduced to him. He claims he is the "ultimate supreme leader" of an evil organization of 10,000 members, only for his lie to be immediately exposed by another student. Though it's only after Kokichi dies that it's revealed by Monakuma that he was the leader of a group of pranksters and jokers called D.I.C.E and that it only had 10 members. Many fans believe that the organization D.I.C.E may be a reference to the animated series by the same name, which is about an organization run by orphaned children. This has led fans to deeply believe Kokichi is an orphan and that him being an orphan could be why he never talks of his childhood and may be where his constant lying habits may have started. This could also explain his trust issues with others.
He lied about many things, so that he could live and return to his life with D.I.C.E and whatever other bonds he had, only to be the first student to find out that all the students were being held on a spaceship and that the Earth was ruined by a barrage of meteors, making the students the last of humanity. Kokichi was mentally hurt by this, since he had already lied and even made himself into a false villian persona to live. As he stated himself, he had to lie to himself to keep his sanity, though this put him into a corner later on, until he was killed by another student. He lied until he died, and even with his last words the other remaining students felt he lied even then. He was hurt so much throughout his life, lying to himself and others, considering most people not trustworthy and never really considered anybody his friend. Some think he didn't get involved with the other students and was a bit of a loner because he didn't want to face the severity of their situation.
*😢😭 I'm sorry, it's just (sniff) I feel for this guy. (Sniff) I'm okay now*
In his promotional artwork Kokichi Oma is seen holding a purple can of grape soda called "Panta", which is obviously a pun off of the soda Fanta. It's even the same color as the cans of grape-flavored Fanta. You can imagine Kokichi has grown popular for this little something. In the game he has developed this fantasy of himself as the Phantom Thief and another student as the detective who has captured him. His captor held him in his bedroom while Kokichi kept saying that no amount of torture could break him. After being asked why he thought he was going to be tortured, he replied that he figured the detective was going to hurt him around his body and concluded "-isn't that why there is a bed?" He's said to have a liking for sodas, hence the promotional artwork with "Panta", and also has a love for playing video games like other teenagers his age. He's very much against the thought of killing and despises anyone who enjoys killing. He also has a deep fear of bugs as he can't see how anyone would like them. When one of the students forced Kokichi close to a bunch of bugs, he screamed to the point he fainted. Unlike most known video game characters, the characters of Danganronpa each have birthdays, Kokichi's being June 21. This makes him a Gemini ♊, who are known for lying, of course. He also seems to not like robots like Keebo and often makes fun of them.
Something about his lying will let you know whether or not he is speaking the truth. If he says something and doesn't tell you whether or not it's a lie, it's likely to be a lie. But if he says something and follows it up with saying it was in fact a lie, then it's likely to be the truth.
All characters throughout Danganronpa have different images depending on their reactions to situations. While a character can have a least one or two expressions that can make you cringe or shiver, Kokichi has, arguably, the creepiest and even almost demonic expressions. The first of these expressions is shown first to us during the first Class Trial, when Kokichi has a face that can best be described as the same looks as the infamous Jeff the Killer's face. His next expression is like the first, but with him smiling cheerfully and his eyes shaped like crescent moons. He is even capable of showing an expression that looks like a photo negative version of one of his regular expressions. He also may have unintentionally broken the forth wall in some cases.
