According to Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris, Gamera was not only a creation of Alantas, but also a chosen guardian of Japan and the world. Just like him, there was a more menacing opposite fellow guardian. When a Japanese girl accidentally awoken the child of the deceased guardian, she named the child Iris (picture above) after her long dead cat. Iris was created by Alantas just as Gamera was, but unlike Gamera, Iris was somehow blood kin to the very creatures Gamera was made to destroy. Since Iris is a girl name, and that Iris was made to be the opposite equivalent to Gamera, we're going to refer to Iris as a female.

Iris is a mystery. To say the least. The people who awoken her were related to a family whose ancient duty was to keep the demon(Iris, as it turns out) from being unleashed. The Japanese girl who named and raised Iris was adopted after her and her brother witnessed Gamera supposedly destroy her home, with her parents still inside. This started the girl's hatred for Gamera. It's later suggested that Iris, or Iris's parents, killed the girl's parents, but it's uncertain. It was their parents' murder by Gamera that allowed the girl and Iris to bond so well. Iris soon grew and become closer to her adopted mother. Literally, since Iris wrapped her tentecules around the girl and enveloped them both in a cocoon. When the girl's brother came and rescued his sister, Iris became furious and killed the family that had kept her in the cave, then presided to killed some locals. Kinda like a Slender of Japan, if you will.

The girl found Iris and allowed Iris to wrapped her tentecules around her again, this time ending with her unconscious and with some kind of concussion. Iris then grew to her full adult size, and with her army of Gyos behind her, planned to join with her adopted mother and get revenge on Gamera. Though the fight seemed to be in Iris's favor, Gamera not only managed to rescue the girl, but, even after cutting off his own hand, delivered a kaiju - sized Falcon Punch that incinerated Iris completely. Though as shown in the last Gamera movie made, Gamera the Brave, Iris kinda got the last laugh when her army of Gyos showed up and the only way Gamera could defeat them all was to blow himself up.

Iris's powers are just as epic as Gamera's. Extending from her hands are spear-like appendages that can stab anything to death. She has, at least, four tentecules; two can shoot laser beams, and the other two help Iris fly. Much like Gamera, Iris can use jet pulsation to fly at high speed, though she prefers to use her glider wings to travel. Iris can also absorb the life energy of others as she pleases, especially Gamera's. Iris is kin to the Gyos, sharing their laser abilities, though not quite used in the same way. Iris also has the ability to absorb the energy of her foes and her tentecules can use a ability her foes know.
