Gigan
Name: Gigan
Franchise: Godzilla movie/game/comic series
Gender: Male
Species: Alien cyborg
One of Godzilla's constant rivals, Gigan(picture above) is a power house for destruction. It's not of his own will, however. His alien masters have mind controlled him every time he was sent to Earth. In fact, in a kaiju show of sorts Gigan had just ran away from a fight with Godzilla and Jet Jaguar when another group of aliens found him and took over his mind so they could use him against their enemy, only for Godzilla himself getting involved and Gigan dying. Gigan, much like other kaijus(Japanese for strange beast), has had his appearance changed over the years.
When Gigan first appeared on the movie screen, he had greenish skin with patches of gold and slight silver. This is he's classic Showa self, and is still used for the comic novels and books based off the Godzilla series. Next came Gigan's Millennium version, first seen in the film Godzilla: Final Wars. This version has a more cybernetic look, along with a deep blue coloring with silver and red patches on his body. The Millennium version also features the laser eye power that Gigan is known for, and has grappling hooks under his "hands". It was also taller and faster than the original Gigan. The Millennium version of Gigan is more widely popular than the original version, but is used less. The last version of Gigan is known as Modified Gigan, also appeared in Godzilla: Final Wars, after Godzilla killed the Millennium version. Modified Gigan fancies buzz saw hands and sharper edges and blades surrounding his body. He also has the ability to fire homing saw blades from his shoulders. However, this ability has been his down fall, for if he forgets about said blades, or has moved too much from when he launched them, the blades will injure Modified Gigan, even behead him. This version has only been seen in the movie it premiered in, though there were plans to include it in the game Godzilla Unleashed.
Gigan has been controlled by two alien groups in the Godzilla movie series; the Xliens, and the Vortoc. Both of which used Gigan in an attempt to conquer Earth, only to fall at the hand of Godzilla. Gigan has been seen as a trusted ally of Megalon, an alien beetle with drill hands similar to how Gigan has blade hands. The idea of Gigan was actually inspired by one of Ultraman's enemies, who also was a alien with blade hands and many variations called Doraku. The one time I have found that Gigan was an ally to Godzilla was in Godzilla Island, a in-between comercial Japanese tv stop motion series in which each episode lasted three minutes each. The series used figurines of the kaijus during the monster scenes, while actual actors were used for the human scenes. In the show, Gigan was used by the aliens at first, but as soon as he was free of the control, he became friends with Godzilla and lived on Monster Island. You can watch the show on YouTube, but it's in Japanese and, due to the show being a in-between comercial series, each episode lasts three minutes each, but if your interested you can check it out.
Gigan's powers usually change depending on where you look. In the game Godzilla Unleashed, Gigan had his laser beam, his blade hands, a slide ability, a spin attack, a grab attack where he made use of his saw blade on his chest, and a never before seen ability to teleport. In one Godzilla game Gigan fancied the never before seen ability of using a flamethrower. According to Toho, the company behind the Godzilla franchise, Gigan has always had this flamethrower ability.
