In Sonic's world, there are many different creatures of many shapes and sizes and from just about all walks of life. Even those from other worlds and even timelines fit in. Shadow the hedgehog, for example, can be described as cold-hearted and emotionless from a distance, and yet can be chivalrous and even self-sacrificing. Often the rival to Sonic, he claims to be the "Ultimate lifeform". Perhaps he has more in common with Sonic then what some realize, for as Sonic has Metal Sonic to deal with, Shadow has the "Ultimate Alien" known as Eclipse(picture above).

Eclipse was created by the Darkling alien race for the sole purpose of dealing with Shadow the hedgehog. Shadow himself is part Darkling due to the experiments done on him. Eclipse is almost demon-like with his pointed tail and red and black colors and his black eyes with gold pupils. Oh, and pointed sharp teeth. He can be described as evil as well, especially since his species wishes to conquer Sonic's Earth. He isn't entirely "evil" however. He's willing to consider Shadow like a brother of sorts to him, and instead of destroying Shadow like he was made to, he often tries to convince Shadow to join the Darklings. This feeling towards Shadow could be the result of the fact that Eclipse is the only Darkling with free will.

And though Shadow may refuse, Eclipse could always try and drag Shadow back to his home world. Eclipse has the powers of the Dark Arms, something exclusive amongst the Darklings. In fact, he didn't go after Shadow until he looked into these Dark Arms. He also has Chaos Control powers like Shadow. He can even manipulate Shadow's Chaos Control. He also has the ability to transform into other forms, such as his monster form.

As special as this Eclipse is, he has only appeared exclusively in the comics of Sonic the hedgehog. Though he was mentioned in another Sonic the hedgehog comic series.
