Chapter 13
Elsa
I woke up screaming again.
Caleb, Hunter, and Anna came rushing into the room, but Spencer was already there calming me down, having never left my side the entire night. I had to admit it was a little strange having him sleep in the same bed with me considering I had no memory of him... but the strangest thing was that I was okay with it. Even with my amnesiac condition, I trusted him implicitly. To feel that towards someone who wasn't my family by blood or from my original pack, that had to mean we were more than just close friends... right?
"Hey Ice Princess, what happened? What did you see?" Caleb asked gently, placing a reassuring hand on my shoulder.
"Nothing new from the last one. Sorry, Caleb..." I replied, upset with myself that I couldn't give more information.
"Don't worry about it. I'm going to go finish making breakfast."
"Yeah, we left Dom in charge of cooking. We don't want to have your house burn down," Anna mused. "I love him, but the man cannot cook."
"Please go make sure he hasn't caught anything on fire," Spencer insisted. "I do love my house."
The three of them left the room. I let out a sigh, falling back onto my pillow and rubbing my temple.
"Can I do anything for you?" Spencer inquired, staring down at me. There was a softness in his eyes, one I had never seen before. But then again, I probably hadn't seen them because we hadn't really talked until the last few hours.
I shut my eyes in an attempt to get rid of my headache. "No, but thank you. For everything. I need to get up and get dressed. I'm going into town with Anna, Roy, and Paul."
"What for?" He replied. There was a sharp edge to his tone which made me look at him. The once soft expression on his face had been replaced with a hardened one, the one I was used to seeing on him. I didn't understand but chose to ignore it.
"Anna is going stir crazy, I need a distraction from everything, and Roy and Paul offered to go as protection. Apparently, Dom had other plans that he needs you for or something."
"Oh, yeah, I forgot about that... well, I'll leave you to get dressed." Spencer left the room before I could ask him if he was okay. Letting out a groan, I squeezed my eyes shut. The faceless people swirled in my vision, but rather than being scared of them, I was furious. It was them who had done to this me, to my family. I wanted to make them pay.
With a newfound determination, I rolled out of bed to get ready for the day. Putting on some jeans and a sweater, and then doing my hair and makeup, I headed downstairs. I found my sister with Roy and Paul. Surprisingly, Dom was not by her side. As if sensing my question, Anna said, "Dom and Spencer already left. They were in quite the hurry. You ready to go?"
"Yes!" I exclaimed, grabbing my purse. The four of us walked out to the car, but not before Caleb and Hunter approached us.
"So where are you for four going?" Caleb inquired.
"I told you. We're going stir-crazy, so we're going into town," Anna responded.
"I meant where exactly? I want to know where you're going at all times."
"Is that not a little bit excessive?"
"Not when someone has, a, put a bounty on our heads, and b, when someone has already attempted to kill one of us which resulted in the memory loss of our sister," he snapped.
"Fine, how about this: whenever we are heading to a new store or place, I will text you the name of it. It's not like we have an itinerary planned for the day. It was supposed to be a little spontaneous..."
Caleb sighed. "All right, but if anything remotely suspicious happens, I want you to come back immediately."
"Wouldn't have it any other way," my twin answered. She then ushered me into the passenger seat before getting into the driver's side. Roy and Paul took the back. Once we were on the main road to town, she said, "Sorry for rushing you. I wanted to get going before Caleb or Hunter changed their minds on our deal. They've been so skittish because of everything going on."
"It's better to be paranoid than not worried at all," Paul said.
"You guys have lost a lot already and nearly losing Elsa, I don't blame them for being the way they are. I would be the same if I was in their position," Roy added.
"Don't get me wrong, I get it too. I'm going to have the person's head who did this to Elsa, but as long as we're in pairs, we're pretty damn near impossible to catch off guard," Anna responded, pulling into a parking spot next to Kind Coffee.
"I am glad you two are here with us though. We're stronger in numbers," I said, smiling at the twins. Roy smiled back. Paul was too busy watching what my sister was doing. It was obvious to me that he was totally enraptured by her. It was also obvious to me that she was completely oblivious to it.
"All right, can we grab something to eat first? I'm starving!" I exclaimed, my stomach grumbling in agreement.
"Let's just grab some coffee and something to eat here at Kind. Then we can chat and catch up on things," Anna promised.
"Good, because I have more questions!" The four of us entered the quaint little coffee shop and placed our orders, then grabbed a place to sit. We took a corner table where we could keep an eye on the exits for 'just in case' purposes. The twins brought over our coffee and food orders when they were ready.
"Okay, so I was talking to Noah the other day, and he said he and I didn't always get along? Do you know why?" I inquired. I took a massive bite out of my breakfast sandwich, staring at my sister expectantly for an answer.
"From what I gathered, you two were both dominant personalities with very different ideas on the Stark pack and interacting with them, especially when it came to Spencer," she explained. "He didn't trust the Stark pack because their alpha was too elusive. Little did he know that it was actually Caleb, but still. Noah and Spencer never got along extremely well either. They had a bit of a rivalry going on. Also whoever Hunter didn't like, Noah didn't either. Spencer also knew how to get under Noah's skin without really having to try, or meaning to for that matter. Honestly, they're so similar, I think that was the main reason they never got along. But now since your accident, they've suddenly become best friends, and I have to say, I feel bad for any enemies that get in their way."
"What did I do as hobbies? I remember Ember saying I was in dance."
"Yeah, it's where you met Spencer. And you two were phenomenal. I saw you two dance once in person and let me tell you, you two probably could've gone pro."
"I can confirm that. You're an amazing dancer," Roy praised.
"You also took martial arts when you were little, and received your black belts," Anna added.
"Was I dating anyone?" I asked softly. All of them fell quiet, glancing down at their coffee cups.
"Look-" My sister began, only to be interrupted by her phone ringing. She picked it up quickly. Mouthing that it was Caleb, she went to stand outside to have some quiet for the call. I faced the twins again, staring them down in expectation of an answer. Roy and Paul shared a look but remained steadfast in their silence much to my annoyance.
A few minutes later, Anna came back in. With a smile, she said, "He was just checking in. What do you say we hit the shops? Let you get reacquainted with everything."
"Sounds like a plan," I agreed. The four of us left the coffee shop. The first place we entered was a Christmas shop, then an art shop where I ended up buying a small portrait of the famous 'Estes Park Wolf Pack', otherwise known as my family. It was a photo of Riley and Spencer wrestling while Caleb, Dom, Anna, and I watched in amusement.
The next stop was a jewelry store, and then this really cool shop with items from Nepal. Roy and Paul were looking at some Buddha statues while Anna and I made our way to the back looking at the dresses. I took the opportunity to bring my dating life up again.
"So you dodged my question earlier. Was I dating anyone?"
My sister sighed. "Yeah, you were. But you two had a nasty fight before and honestly, I'm not sure what you were feeling toward them after that. Besides, I don't know if he's ready to tell you yet. He'll tell you when he's ready. I'll try and convince him to talk to you about it sooner rather than later, okay?"
"Okay..." It wasn't the answer I wanted, but it was a start, and probably as far as I could get with the subject. For the time being, I chose to let it drop.

I didn't realize I shouted in glee at finding a potential cure for Elsa's condition until Hunter and Caleb came rushing into the study, partially ready to fight a threat, partially ready to duck in case I threw a book at them.
"What is it? What's wrong?" Hunter asked worriedly.
"I think I found a cure!" I exclaimed excitedly.
"That's awesome!" Caleb replies, his face lighting up. "What is it? And what are its side effects?"
"Well, I haven't gotten that far. After reading the side effects of some other things, I'm kind of scared to read these, to be honest. But nothing is completely safe."
"Let's start with the cure: what is it called?" Hunter inquired, bracing himself next to me. Caleb mimicked my actions on the other side of her.
"It's called-"
"Lemur Brassiere?" Caleb read out, squinting at the French name. "What kind of name is that? Why would a lemur need a bra?"
I snorted. "It's Le Mur Briseur. It means 'The Wall Breaker' in French."
"That sounds ominous," Hunter said.
"Well, reading the side effects, I can see why," Caleb remarked. "This is terrifying. Permanent catatonic state, personality change, permanent coma... this list goes on and on."
"What are the statistics for it working?"
"Depends on if they survive it and don't succumb to the side effects. If all goes as it should, the patient always gets all their memories back. But there have been very few that survived it unharmed."
"Has it ever been used on a Guardian?"
"We don't have that kind of information, but considering this was loaned to me by the Searchers, I'm sure we could find out," I said.
"All right, let's do that. But for now, let's keep searching for another way. One that's less risky for Elsa. I don't want her knowing about this just yet. I want to exhaust every possible resource we have, and in the end, let her decide which one to do," Caleb decided, standing up. He started to walk out of the room until I stopped him by shouting out, "And if this is the only cure?"
"It's not. It can't be..." A flash of fear appeared in his eyes, but it was quickly replaced by determination. With that said, he left the room.
"How's Caleb doing?" I asked once he was out of earshot.
Hunter sighed. "He's... stressing. He's worried about Elsa, he's worried about Spencer, and he's worried about the both of them together."
"What do you mean?"
"He talked to Spencer about ignoring Elsa. It's getting to her. I think that even though she doesn't have any memory of him, those mated feelings are still there, but she doesn't know what those are. I think it's a bad idea to tell her they're mates right now, which is why we're just telling her she was super close to Spencer. And it's still Spencer's mate. It's still his call when he wants to tell her."
"Think I could convince him?"
"If Caleb and Lily can't, then no. I think something needs to push him to do it. Something physical."
"So if I lure Elsa and him right next to each other, you want to casually walk past and push one of them into the other?" I suggested with a grin.
Hunter laughed. "That's a possibility, and I'll keep it in mind next time. Listen, take the night off. You've been burning the midnight oil, and I'd like to spend some time with my wife. I also miss falling asleep next to you."
"I'm sorry! I just want to find a cure for Elsa as soon as I can. That way we can end this all as soon as possible before we get roped into another war."
"I know, but running yourself into the ground isn't going to help either. Promise me you'll take tonight off, okay?"
"But-"
"Josilyn."
"Fine..."
"You can even bring the books with you and read them to me at dinner. Just get out of the library and into some sunlight."
"Okay... what time are we leaving?"
"Six. I'll see you soon. I love you, babe."
"Love you too," I replied as he kissed me on the head. I watched my husband leave the room, wondering what he had planned for the night. But knowing it was useless to try and figure it out, I stuck my head back into the book, searching for another cure.
"Have you moved since this morning?" I looked up to see Anna and Elsa standing in the doorway. Roy and Paul were standing behind them. I couldn't help but notice how close they were to the girls, especially Roy to Elsa.
"Does going to the bathroom count?" I countered.
"No. Neither does going to get food. I hope Hunter convinced you to go out tonight," Anna said.
"He did, he did, don't worry."
"We'll leave you to have your girl time. See you later?" Roy queried, his eyes watching Elsa hopefully.
"Yeah, see you later," she told him with a smile.
Once the boys were gone, I questioned casually, "How was town?"
"Good. It seemed familiar, and we kind of went on a shopping spree," Elsa responded. "Speaking of which, I got you something."
"Oh! You didn't have to do that!" I exclaimed, shocked she had even thought of me. The twins sat across from me. Elsa dug through her bags while Anna grabbed a book, glancing at it nonchalantly.
"I wanted to. Besides, you're like our fraternal triplet. You belong with us. Here." My friend handed me a necklace that had a charm in the shape of a star. In the center of it was a sparkling garnet stone. "Anna has the sun, and I have the moon. Amethyst stones are set in ours. This is probably going to sound corny, but I thought that the three of us are like the sun, moon, and stars. The sun and moon balance each other out with night and day and based on mine and Anna's personalities, that's kind of accurate. Then the star is always there, no matter what, and it supports both."
"Stars have always been closer to the moon, and have always been closely associated to the moon," Anna added softly. "But the sun is a star too, and I hope the star knows that they're just as important to the sun as to the moon. They're one and the same as well."
"Have I ever said how much I love you two?" I said through my tears. "Those analogies hardly made sense to me, but I know what you're getting at. Thank you so much! I love you both!"
"We love you too," they responded simultaneously.
"Would you like any help reading?" Elsa offered.
"Only if you want to," I said.
"I do. I want to help." My sister grabbed one of the books and started reading it. Anna was quick to follow. I turned on some relaxing music, then settled into my chair.
