Abhinandan POV
My blood boiled with the rage. And I was equally shocked to the core.
I ran my brain to everyone, including everyone who ever visited Gurukul, and looked into Trisha's eyes, but I never thought Guruji would do that.
Just because he did not like me.
"Ask him to wake up," I sent a message to Ashwin and stood outside his room.
And, Singarh. How nicely they played with us.
The King knew what he was doing. He took the opportunity to crumble my pride, and he knew that even if the man failed, I would Kill Guruji as well.
And, in both conditions, my loss was inevitable.
And she was right. I would not have thought for a moment had I found out he did that.
I could not believe they planned all this.
It would have never occurred to me.
If I had killed Guruji, everyone would have voted against me and stripped me of Samrat's position.
Mahabaleshgarh would stand alone in the northern Hind without support, and my loss was inevitable.
Singarh pushed someone in the front whom I could not kill because they did not want to do it directly.
They just wanted to deceit.
They did not dare to fight in the battleground.
I palmed my mouth, still not believing it.
And, how could she think of this far in that moment? Even at Agastya's wedding, she behaved as if nothing was wrong.
And, how stupid I was that I could not see her distancing from her father.
In five years, she never remembered him, and when I asked her to make him the kid's teacher, she denied it.
How could I not sense that?
What the hell was I even thinking?
"Maharaj?" Ashwin asked, and I looked up at him.
"Yudh ki Taiyaari karo,"
"Prepare for the war," I ordered and walked away.
I still could not believe it.
She could have told me earlier.
But, I would not have stopped myself from anything before killing Guruji and Singarh's King.
And she was right.
We could never explain to people that I killed him because he did that. Nobody had seen it.
If someone had, I would have found and killed the culprit by now by myself without waiting for her to speak up.
Everything was messed up.
A part of me felt that she did the right thing, and the other felt guilty for hating her for so long. And, a part of me wanted her to tell me. I did not care about anything.
But, I did care about the Kingdom.
I was always entangled between the right and wrong.
I disapproved of Rudra and Nandani's wedding because it was wrong for me. They brought disgrace to the family.
And, then, how could my heart approve of killing my Guru?
Inhaling deeply, I closed my eyes and looked up, trying to feel the fresh air.
And I still did not feel satisfied with his death.
I wanted to behead a dead body.
How could he?
How could he stand so low?
How could he forget his limits?
How could he forget that Trisha was my wife?
And, a part of me judged her character. Because, all the while, a part of me feared that she had disgraced me.
I had endless thoughts. But never in those cases did it occur to me that it could be her father.
It was evident.
He never approved of our wedding. He emptied a water pot on his head, signifying Trisha's death in his heart. He was always rigid.
Everything was right before my eyes, and still, it never occurred to me.
How could I be so stupid?
What the hell was I even thinking?
I always thought that she was protecting some other man, but it never crossed my mind that she could be protecting me only.
Why did I hate her so much?
"Maharaj," Ashwin's voice caught my attention, and I looked at him.
"Where to depart?" he asked, and I firmed my hand on my sword and looked away for a moment.
"Deploy the army on the border of Singarh. Send a war invitation to them," I ordered, looking back at him, and he knit his brows.
"Singarh? But why? The Kingdom is far, almost touching the southern Hind," he said, and I tightened my jaw.
"Because it was Singarh's King who sent that man to touch the Queen," I explained, and his eyes widened with shock.
"What?" he asked, and I nodded.
"That's why no one had any clue. They deported people from Singarh here to spread the rumors and do the riots. No one recognized those people," Ashwin exclaimed, and I nodded.
"When to leave?" he asked, and I looked up at the sky.
It would be morning in a while.
"Now," I replied, and he nodded.
I did not know how she endured all of this.
I wanted to run back to her and talk, but before that, I wanted someone's head.
Before leaving, I met everyone, as it would take at least a week to wrap things up there.
The convoy of attendees and soldiers began their journey with me, and the whole time, I could not help but think about her.
It took us two days to reach Singarh, and only I knew how I spent these two days burning with deceit and anger.
Our army stopped on the border of Singarh, and I sent Ashwin with the War Invitation. Meanwhile, I strolled around to see the beautiful scenery. There were five rivers in the way. The air of Singarh was mild and cold. It was a beautiful Kingdom.
The village did not have much population, but it had a lot of vegetation.
And, noticing an army move, they hid in their homes.
Ashwin came back in a while and stood before me. The soldiers were practicing fencing, sharpening their blades, and having meals.
"Maharaj," Ashwin addressed me and inhaled deeply. I looked up into his eyes.
"What did they say?" I asked, and he lowered his gaze for a moment.
"The King is ill-mannered," he said, and my eyes thinned.
"I know that already," I said.
"He is young and wishes to fight," he said, and I nodded, looking at the soldiers.
"But, there is a condition," he said, and I immediately looked up at him.
"He does not want a war. He wants a one-on-one battle with you. And he said that if you lose, he will be the Samrat and the King of Mahabaleshgarh. " The moment Ashwin finished, I gritted my teeth.
Shaking my head, I looked away, unable to believe someone could be this stupid.
"And, what if I win?" I asked, and Ashwin lowered his gaze.
"Singarh will be yours," he finished, and I could not stop myself from chuckling.
"Good," I muttered.
"Tomorrow, early morning, in his pit," he said, and I nodded.
"Abhi," he said and stepped closer.
"The whole village will be there. Let me fight for you. You do not have to entertain such stupid Kings," he said, and I shook my head, looking into his eyes.
"This is about my pride, wife, and Kingdom," I muttered and went to my tent.
It turned dark, and I lay down on the bed.
My head felt heavy, unable to stop recalling all the moments when I hurt Trisha. Was I this bad that she had to keep it to herself?
What made her do that?
What made her think that I would not believe even for a single moment before killing Guruji?
Well, I would not have.
But, in those five years, there must have been a moment when she felt comfortable telling me about it. Even give me a hint or try to make me understand.
I signed deeply, closing my eyes.
What moment could it be?
We have not sat in the same bed in the last three years.
Why did I distance myself from her that much instead of taking a step closer to her?
This did not feel right. This separation of five years did not feel right.
Why did she push me away?
Or did I push her away?
When we got married, I asked her to be a Queen. When did I become a Queen? Why did I become a King, too?
Why there was a deep hole in me? And, why every time I saw her, she looked away?
Recalling those five years, I felt that everything between us came down to just one name; why?
Why did it not occur to me that she could be protecting myself from me?
And she hurt both of us in the process.
Or did I let her hurt both of us?
Suddenly, it felt like it was not only her responsibility to keep our relationship alive but mine, too.
But where did I fail?
If someone touches my wife, and she hides his name. What else should I do?
My head hurt badly, and I pressed my hands against it.
I could not sleep for the whole night. And there was only one thing on my mind.
The King of Singarh.
Replaying the old memories, I realized that anyone could guess the relationship equation if my Guru and Trisha's father were missing at the crowning ceremony.
And, Singarh did.
He took advantage of that. There was a crack in the relationship, but he broke the whole wall.
His life was not enough for the ruin of our relationship.
As I woke up in the morning, I prepared for the battle. I promised Trisha that I would leave him with something that he would never be able to recover from—the way he left us.
Ashwin and a small troop of soldiers had ridden with me to the pit. The villagers were there, hooting for their King.
Around five thousand people were witnessing it.
I had lost my love, and the remains were on the stake.
My Kingdom and my people.
As Ashwin and I, along with a few soldiers, walked through the pit gallery, I heard the noise only increasing.
I immediately stopped and looked at Ashwin.
He knit his brows with confusion as I leaned in and whispered.
"Attack the Kingdom and summon the soldiers of the Singarh," I ordered, and he gulped, nodding and leaving.
I inhaled deeply, stepped into the pit, and stared at the sandy ground.
There was a little moisture from last night, which stiffened muscles. If it had been afternoon, the body would have been warm and more relaxed.
But only a few punches would do the magic.
"Here comes the King of Mahabaleshgarh," the announcer roared in his high voice, and the whole crowd fell silent.
"The Samrat of Hind," he added, and I looked up to move my eyes around.
A range of whispers ran through it.
"And now the one true King, the King of Singarh," he announced further, and I looked at a tall, well-built man stepping forward.
I had not seen him before.
But, I could recall that I knew his father. That meant he had recently become a King.
As he lifted his hands, the crowd cheered insanely.
I could not believe that the people were in their own shells, not knowing his true nature. A well-mannered person would never do what he did.
"And what is on stake is the Kingdom of Singarh and the Mahabaleshgarh along with the title of Samrat," the announcer stated, and I stepped forward, signaling the soldiers to stay back.
Everything was new.
I had not fought any battle yet, let alone one-to-one battles with any king.
He also walked closer, and we stood before each other.
The drums rolled, and we both pulled our swords out from the sheaths.
Everyone backed off, and I looked into his dirty eyes. A wicked smile was always present on his lips.
"I did not know you would come. I thought you had forgotten," he said, and I gulped, shaking my head.
"That's my identity. I never forget until I strip it down to the last ounce," I muttered and clenched my jaw with a soft chuckle.
"Kamaal ki patni hai aapki. Hamare Jagshana ko maar kese diya usne. Konsi nasal ki hai vo, kabse dekhne ko betaab hai,"
"Your wife is something else. How did she kill our Jagshana? What kind of bloodline is she from? I've been eager to see her for a long time," he said, and I nodded, initiating the attack by lifting my sword high and splitting his head into two.
But he was quick to put his sword before me.
I immediately pulled back, creating a screeching sound, and he stepped back.
But before I could know, he attacked me, stepping forward with a roar and pressing his sword against my shoulder. I immediately put my sword in front and pushed him back.
My blood warmed quickly, and I took a few steps closer and attacked him again.
But he quickly pushed my sword aside and punched my face.
My whole body shook with the effect, and I inhaled deeply.
The crowd hooted, and I felt the anger run into my nerves.
"I told Jagshana to bring your wife here. She killed him. It would be better if she came here to fight with me. That would be insane," he said, and I gritted my teeth and immediately punched into his dirty face.
He fell, and before I could push my sword right into his chest, he rolled aside and kicked into the side of my waist.
I took a step back, and he stood up suddenly.
Taking a few steps closer, he began to attack me with brutal attacks, and I answered all of them by pushing his sword away.
And, as he turned a little, I grabbed his neck by my arm.
"What the hell did you say? How could you even think of laying your dirty eyes on her?" I asked, but before I could cut him, he punched his elbow in my chest hurriedly and escaped from my grip.
Turning around, he punched my face, and I fell down.
But, before he could attack, I rolled and kicked into his knee.
He cried out with the stiffened knee.
I kicked in again and immediately stood up, pushing my sword into his calf and pinning it into the earth.
He cried out in pain, and I pulled the sword out.
The whole crowd went silent.
"This is to make you forget that you can ever walk to Mahabaleshgarh's Queen's Chamber," I murmured, turning to look into his eyes.
"Why did you do it? Why her?" I asked, and he chuckled.
"Exactly why her? Who the hell is she? Just because your father was a Samrat of the Hind, you got that title. Who the hell are you?" he asked, and I gritted my teeth and nodded, trying to keep myself composed.
"And, what made you think you could become a Samrat by playing?" I asked and moved my sword right through his arm, cutting it.
He groaned in pain, and I cupped his neck, pressing it hard.
"What the hell made you think that you could become a Samrat by doing whatever you did?" I asked, tightening my fist on his nerves.
He cried even louder and suddenly chuckled.
"I would have won. All the Kingdoms were by my side. We all hated you. And we just wanted you to make one mistake. How the hell did you not? Why did you not kill your Guru, knowing he was the one who showed me the secret passages of the chambers?" he muttered, and I gritted my teeth with anger.
"Because I have a Queen," I muttered. Within a few moments, our army arrived and summoned all the soldiers.
He had lost. And a small troop of soldiers ran towards me.
I pushed him away and ordered.
"Strip him off, fully naked," my voice was low, and my eyes burned with rage.
Looking around, I noticed the people as silent as the desert.
"Nooooooooooooo!" he screamed on the top of his lungs, and I looked back at him.
The soldiers had stripped him naked, and I looked at Ashwin walking closer to me.
"Tie his hands and come after me," I said and noticed the drop of his blood dripping down my sword on the sand.
I walked out of the pit and climbed over my horse. Holding the end of the ropes, I made him run after me through the streets of his Kingdom until I reached the Palace. The doors were open, and I stepped in.
My soldiers did a good job summoning the Kingdom and guided me to the courtroom, where the throne was placed.
His head was down, and I looked at all the court members watching me, walking their King like a dog.
Pulling him, I grabbed his neck and climbed the stairs before pushing him against the throne.
He did not lift his gaze and was trying to hide his manhood.
"Chitrakaar ho bulaiye,"
"Call the art maker," I ordered, and I tightened my fist.
A faded noise of crying from the other parts of the Kingdom, and within a moment, an artist came.
"Draw him like this. A King on his throne," I ordered and stepped aside.
Everyone was staring at me.
"I said, draw him!" I raised my voice, and he shivered, nodding.
"Ji, Ji, Maharaj," he said, and within a few moments, he began drawing his picture.
He shook his head, trying to stop it and step up from the throne, but I had my sword right to his neck.
Lowering it, I put the tip near to his manhood and muttered.
"Do not forget to add these two inches into it,"
After a moment, the artist said, "It is ready, Maharaj," and I looked at a few soldiers of Singarh.
"Put that picture on that wall," I ordered, and they immediately went to work.
"Now, every time you sit on the throne, you must remember where you belong." I looked into his eyes, and he gulped, lowering his gaze.
"You brought this on your own. You forgot that a man who could fight the whole laws and regulations for his woman could do anything and to any extent to avenge her pain," I said, and suddenly, he chuckled.
"She sucked his cock,"
The moment those words escaped through his mouth, I immediately lifted my sword to behead him.
"Maharaj! Sorry! Maharaj, pleaseeeee, pleaseeee, pleaseeeeee Maharaj!" a woman held my feet and my sword stopped on his neck.
"Maharaj! Please, I have two little daughters. Pleaseeeeeee. He will do as you say. Pleaseeee, please," she begged, placing her head on my feet. I looked away.
"Ashwin," I called him, and he brought a document.
I stepped back.
"This states," I began with a loud voice, "That Singarh now belongs to Mahabaleshgarh, but," I stopped and looked back at the King, "But I will not handle any of its matter. The Queen of Mahabaleshgarh, Trishalini, will," I finished and looked up into his eyes.
"Even to add a single wall in the Kingdom, the King must ask her approval. Do you agree?" I asked, and he looked away.
"Do you agree?" I raised my voice and placed my sword on his neck.
His wife shook his knee.
"Say yes, say yessss. I told you to not do any of this. Say yessss," she broke into cries, "We have two little daughters. Think about their future," she cried even more.
"Yes," he muttered.
"Say it aloud. I bend the knee to Queen Trishalini," I muttered and pushed the tip of my sword into his neck.
"I BEND THE KNEE TO QUEEN TRISHALINI," I repeated loudly, and I pulled the sword back.
A soldier came forward with a royal stamp, and I noticed his trembling fingers as he applied the stamp to it.
Rolling it, I kept the document with me.
"Shantanu Kumar," I said and looked at him, stepping forward from the crowd.
"I appoint you and Ashwin to be the caretaker of the Kingdom. You two can appoint and remove any ministers you find unworthy. You will send direct words to me if you find any malpractices in the Kingdom," I ordered, and they both nodded.
"And, yes, you two are welcome whenever you want to visit the Kingdom," I added and stepped down the stairs.
Walking out of the Kingdom, I climbed on my horse and signaled the army to move back and ride back to the Kingdom.
It took us two more days to return to Mahableshgarh, and I could not tell how I had spent those two days without her.
I did not know how I would face her.
A heavy weight was lifted off my chest, but I felt nothing. My whole body was still numb.
The revenge did not do any good to me. It could not erase the roughness of me and her.
I swore to not accept her as my wife until I Killed the culprit.
But, it never occurred to me that what if I could never kill the culprit?
The true deceitor was Guruji, and I could not kill him.
My pledge was still not fulfilled.
But she was always my wife. And, whatever I did was just because she was my wife.
By the time the whole convoy reached Mahableshgarh, it was evening. The news of my win had already reached here.
It was lighting beautifully with the lamps and saffron flags.
As I walked through the door, the drums rolled, and the trumpets blew, but my heart felt empty.
My children were there, Daadisa and Maasa were there, and even Nandani and Rudra had arrived, but my eyes searched for her.
Stepping down the horse, I raked my eyes, and finally, my sight fell on her, holding the prayer plate in her hands. She stepped forward to do my Tilak and Aarti.
But before I could say anything or hug her, the kids screamed.
"Baapusa! Congratulations!" they ran towards me, and a broad smile appeared on my face. I lifted them in my arms.
"We want to know it all. Did you kill him?" Yash said, and I chuckled.
"What exactly happened? How did he look? Can we go and see him? Where does he stay?" Harsh asked, and I hugged both of them, and Maasa said.
"Harsh, Yash, let your father in first,"
They both looked at her and shook their head.
"No, Daadisa, we want to know," Yash said, and I nodded.
"I will tell you," I said and looked at Trisha, who was walking away from there with a group of attendees.
"Congratulations, Abhinandan," Rudra stepped forward, and I put the kids down and hugged him.
"Thank you," I muttered, and he rubbed my back.
"You could have at least shared with me for once. Even Trisha never told me. Maasa sent a letter to me after you left for the war. We all were worried," he said, pulling back, and I smiled weakly.
"This was mine to fight," I said, and he nodded.
"Nandan!" Nandani stepped forward, and I hugged her.
"How are you?" I asked and kissed her forehead.
"Good. I am happy to see you win," she said, and I asked.
"Where are the two little dangers?" I asked, and she chuckled.
"They are in the chamber. Rudraja is looking after her brother," she said, and I smiled.
"Does she speak now?" I asked, and she laughed.
"She speaks? You should ask if she ever takes a break," she said, and I laughed.
"Harsh, Yash, did you two meet your Bua-sa?" I asked, looking at them, and they both showed me their shy smiles.
"Come on, touch her feet," I ordered, and Nandani chuckled.
"They did, many times," I said, and they both stepped forward to touch her feet.
"Pranam Bua-sa," they said in sync, and I smiled.
"And what about Fufa-sa?" I asked, and they both ran towards Rudra to touch his feet. But, before they could, he lifted them.
"You two should come with me and tell me how your fencing training is going," he said, and they both immediately began telling him.
I stepped forward and touched Daadisa's and Maasa's feet.
They blessed me with sweet words, and my Maasa pulled me to the corner.
"How does it feel to win?" she asked, and I smiled.
"Good," I muttered.
Her smile grew wider but weak.
"I do not even know what to say to you," she said and walked away.
I never understood her frustration.
Or maybe I did not want to understand.
Inhaling deeply, I went to my chamber, took a quick bath, and changed into my night clothes. The kids were playing with their cousins in Nandani's chamber.
And I wanted to meet Trisha.
I wanted to tell her that I won Singarh for her.
But when I went to her chamber, the attendees told me that she was not there. She was busy with the dinner preparations and looking after the facilities.
"Maharaj," suddenly an attendee came and informed me.
"Everyone is waiting for you for the dinner,"
I nodded, and a smile appeared on my face.
I would see her there.
As I stepped inside the dining hall, I noticed everyone sitting there and waiting for me.
My place was empty. Rudra, Nandani, and Rudraja were on one side, and Maasa and Daadisa were on the other.
And my kids' place was right beside me.
"Come in, Abhinandan. What are you waiting for?" Daadisa said, and I nodded, stepping forward.
"Where is Trisha?" I asked, and everyone stared at me.
"Trisha?" Daadisa asked. She eats in her chamber. She does not eat in the evening; she only has some fruits. Have you forgotten?" she asked, and I looked around.
"But, it's a special dinner," I said, and she chuckled.
"But, today is Ekadashi. She fasts on it," she informed me, and I lowered my gaze.
"Oh," I muttered.
"Baapusa, what are you waiting for? Come here? We are hungry," Harsh said, and I smiled, looking at them.
"Aap log shuru kijiye, hum abhi aate hai,"
"You all should begin; I will be back," I said, and they both looked at each other.
"Harsh, Yash, eat," I said, and they sighed with frustration.
"Harsh, Yash, come here with us," Maasa said, and they both sat with them.
"Baapusa has some work," Daadisa said, kissing Yash's forehead.
"Aaj Daadisa ke haath se kha lijiye,"
"Eat with Daadisa's hands today," Maasa said, and suddenly Rudraja screamed from the other side.
"Hum bhi Daadishhhha ke haath se khaenge,"
"I will also eat with Daadisa's hand," she said, and Nandani was corrected.
"She is Naani-sa,"
I smiled and walked away from there to Trisha's chamber.
Her chamber was dimly lit when I stepped into it. My heart sank deeper.
I realized I had made some terrible mistakes in those five years, but I did not even realize it when I stopped stepping into her chamber.
I did not know when her absence became my comfort.
I mean, I found myself complete with the Kids and them about talking to her. I found it complete just with the glances of her here and there.
It never occurred to me if she was okay or not.
The soldiers looked surprised, and I bit my lips while walking through the galleries. The moment I stepped into her bedroom, I was met with the attendees playing Ludo and laughing.
One of them looked at me.
"Maharaj!" her eyes widened with shock.
"Where is Trisha?" I asked and looked around to notice the dull colors of her chamber. The curtains were light brown, the bedsheet was pale yellow, and the carpets were off-red.
"She is taking a bath," she answered, and I nodded slightly.
"Ekaant,"
"Privacy," I muttered, and they all turned surprised before running outside.
What the hell they had made of her chamber?
As I stepped inside, I noticed how clean her chamber was. How calm its vibes were.
My feet did not stop just in her bedroom, but I walked into her bathing room.
As I took a few more steps inside, the mild smell of roses, lavender, and bathing oils filled my nostrils.
My eyes thinned as I noticed her sitting in the pool surrounded by a few attendees through the cracks of white curtains.
My breath hitched as the fingers of the woman glided on her naked arms and neck while she sat silent.
"Meenakshi, kal prabhat me hi jin sainiko ko kshati pohuchi hai unke ghar muaawja pohuchane ka karya karna hai. Hum Maharaj ko patra bhej denge is baare me shahi mohar ke liye,"
"Meenakshi, at dawn tomorrow, the task of delivering compensation to the families of the soldiers who were injured must be completed. I will send a letter to the king regarding this for the royal seal," she said, and Meenakshi nodded.
"Ji Maharani, and about the ongoing admission of new staff and the kids in that," she asked, shaking her head.
"I told you. No kid below the sixteen will work in the Kingdom. How can people send their children to work? I will talk about it with Maharaj, too. Meanwhile, do not accept anyone below the age of sixteen. Only the boys can be accepted that too for training," she said, and I did not know that while listening to her, a slightly proud smile appeared on my face.
"Ekaant,"
"Privacy," I ordered, and they all immediately looked in my direction.
"Aap?"
"You?" Trisha asked and looked at their attendees.
"No, no one will leave. They are helping me in the bath," she said, and I stepped closer and parted the curtains.
"You King orders you to leave," I said, and they all immediately stood up to leave.
She glared at me, and I smiled.
"What are you doing here?" She asked, and I removed my bellies, placed my feet inside the pool, on the opposite side of her, and sat down on the pool's thick edge.
She sank inside the water a little more.
"You should not be here," she said, and I smiled, placing my hands on either side and leaning slightly back.
"Why?" I asked, and she looked away, inhaling angrily.
"The kids will be here any moment," she said in a low voice and added, "And I am naked,"
"I won, Singarh," I said, and she looked at me. Her gaze softened.
"I know," she muttered and smiled a little.
"Jitna to tha hi, ek na ek din,"
"It was bound to happen one day or another," she said, and I took out the document from the folds of my cloth and forwarded it towards her.
She thinned her brows a little.
"What is this?" she asked.
"Something for you," I replied, and she lowered her gaze. I smiled before standing up and walking in the water to sit beside her.
She was sitting inside, and I sat on the edge.
As I forwarded my hand, she took the letter from my hand.
When she opened the envelope, I noticed her beautiful, wet hands. The rose and sunflower petals stuck to her damp hair, and I could not help but lean in to kiss his forehead.
"There was no need for it," she said and looked up into my eyes.
"There was a need for it," I said and stared into her empty eyes.
I wanted to hug her, kiss her, talk to her, take her, and relive all the moments we had spent together.
But something stopped me.
And it was the way she looked at me.
I found nothing special in her eyes for me. She looked at me the same way she looked at her attendees.
And it hurt me.
"Maasa," suddenly, the voice of Harsh and Yash caught my attention.
And we both looked at each other with the shock.
"Maasa, open the door," they screamed, and I immediately tried to step out.
But, as I ran a little, I slipped with the wet feet and cried out.
"Abhiiiiiii!" Trisha screamed.
"Not Baapusa, Harsh and Yash, Maasa, open the door," they said, and I cried out with pain.
She stood up from the pool, wrapped in a wet, white cloth. Her hair fell to the side, and she gave me to the hand to help me stand up.
I tried to, but instead of being able to lift me, she slipped as well and fell right over my chest.
She cried out a little.
And we both stared at each other before bursting into laughter.
"Maasa, open the door. Or we will push it," Yash said, and she inhaled deeply.
"Wait!" she said, and I gently moved her aside before standing up.
I pulled her up as well, and she said.
"You open the door, I should get dressed,"
I nodded and walked towards the door.
And the moment I opened the door, they both looked at me and thinned their brows.
"What are you doing here?" Harsh asked while they both stepped inside.
I bit on my lips.
"What are you two doing here?" I asked, and they laughed.
"Baapusa, why do you always forget? We come here to meet Maasa after dinner, get out of baths, and listen to the books she reads before sleeping," Yash said, and I nodded.
"Oh," I muttered and looked away.
"But you never told me," I said, and Harsh walked past me and closed the door behind me.
"You never asked," he said, and I nodded.
"My bad," I muttered, and we all walked towards the couch.
I sat down while they both began to strip their clothes.
And, in a few moments, Trisha walked out of the dressing room in her night dress and wet hair.
"Maasa," Yash said, and she smiled.
"How did the dinner go?" she asked, and they both walked to her.
"It was good. You know Rudraja flew the chapati to the other side," Yash said, and they laughed.
I bit on my lips and closed my eyes, inhaling deeply.
"Did you guys eat well or not?" I heard her faded voice. She sat alone on the couch while they bathed and came out.
Trisha brought their clothes and sat on the couch beside me to rub them off and get them ready in the white night attire.
"Maasa, I want milk today," Harsh said, suddenly leaning into her breast. She shook her head.
"You are five now. You have to stop," she said, fingering his hair and finding lice.
"Maasa, I also feel like," Yash said and climbed into her lap and hugged her.
"It's empty. You know nothing came out last time," she said and rubbed Yash's back.
"Please, Maasa, a little only. One Drop," Harsh said, and she laughed.
"Are you mad? See, your Baapusa is here; what will he think?" she said, and they both looked at me.
"Baapusa, why are you here?" Harsh asked.
"You should be in your chamber," Yash said.
"Hey, do not talk like this. He is Maharaj, and he can walk into any place at any time. Say sorry," she said, and they both made the faces.
"Maasa, please," Harsh begged, almost pushing her clothes down, and she was busy running her hands quickly into their heads.
He brought her breast out and began suckling on her nipple.
"Move aside," Yash pushed him away, and she glared at him.
"Yash, he is your brother," she said, and he made a sad face.
"Maasa," Yash begged.
"Baby, there is nothing," she said, kissing her forehead, and he shook his head stubbornly.
I could not believe they still do that.
I did not know, but staring at them, I felt like I had missed a lot.
They came only to sleep with me, practice with me, and eat with me, but they always had moments with their mother.
Trisha clicked with frustration and undid her nightgown to let him suckle.
"See, nothing is coming out," she said, moving on to Harsh's head and finding a lice. She killed it and muttered.
"I think you both should get your hair trimmed. Otherwise, you will get so many lice," she said, and they both just hummed, suckling.
I noticed Harsh pulling back and squeezing her breast with her tiny hands to make a drop out of it.
"Harsh," she said, and he just licked it off.
I could not stop myself from chuckling.
He looked at me and smiled.
Once, she was done, she pushed both of them away and covered her.
"Enough," she muttered and they both made the faces.
"See, your Baapusa was laughing on you," she said, and Harsh looked at me.
"Why are you not going in your chamber? Why are you here?" the frustration dripped off his tongue.
"Yes, we will come later. We will sleep with Maasa today," Yash added, and I smiled, looking up at Trisha.
"Can I sleep here?" I asked, and they both looked at each other and ran towards the bed.
Leaning in closer to each other, they both began to plan something and looked at the bed.
"What are they talking about?" I asked, and Trisha stood up from the bed and said.
"Maybe, wondering if you fit or have to sleep on the couch," she said, washing her hands and clapping twice.
An attendee walked in.
"Bring something for me to eat," she said, suddenly looking at me.
"Did you have dinner?" she asked, and I shook my head slowly.
"Bring dinner for him as well and turmeric-infused milk for the kids. The nights are getting cold. Also, send it to Maasa, Daadisa, and Queen Nandani's chamber. Are attendees there to help her?" she asked, and the attendee nodded.
"Ji, Maharani," she said and walked back.
"Also," she stopped her.
She added, "Bring milk for Maharaj as well and some medicinal paste for his wounds," and the attendee walked away.
As she sat back, I shifted a little closer, but she immediately stood up and walked towards the kid.
"Did you two memorize your lessons or not?" she asked, and I closed my eyes for a moment.
How was I going to talk to her?
