Abhinandan POV
I was on cloud nine knowing that she did not know me. Now, I was able to understand her a little.
She did not want to answer my question directly. She wanted me to understand by myself. If she just stays silent, it would be 'Yes' and if she taunts me or clearly says 'No', then it's a No.
I slight smile appeared on my face, watching her bring her plate. I could sense she was feeling uncomfortable. Thankfully, Guruji took my side.
I noticed Agastya giving me a smirk.
"Hum niche beth jaate hai,"
"I should sit down," she said nervously, standing beside me and I took the plate from her hand and said.
"There is enough space here, why sit down?" I asked, and she looked at Guruji for once and then nodded calculatingly.
"Ji, ji, Yuvraj," she muttered and I just enjoyed teasing her and she stayed over it.
I knew she would fight with me over this when we were alone. But, at least I could make her feel special to me.
I always wanted her to eat with us at the same time and same place but I never had enough strength. But now she was my wife and nobody could stop me from treating my wife right.
I placed her plate between us, near to me, and I saw her sitting down on the cot's edge. I could sense her discomfort so I did not push her more.
Her fingers fidgeted against the dupatta's end and I signalled her to eat.
She looked at me from a corner and slightly shook her head. I shook my head a little and signalled her to begin with my eyes. I looked down at the food once and then looked at her for a little longer.
She looked away for a moment and silently brought her hand to her plate and tore a bite. Her bangles caught my attention so to make her comfortable, I began the conversation.
"Guruji, we are staying here for one more day. I am really liking being here," I said, and he looked at me with a slow nod.
"When did you not like being here?" he asked, all of sudden and I noticed Agastya cough.
"Water!" he exclaimed and immediately walked away from there.
"Um, I did. Now, there is nothing to hide from you. I liked Trisha and her sudden wedding announcement made me realise it," I tried to say. Although these words were the most difficult thing to say.
He chuckled and I lowered my gaze. "I am sorry," I managed to say and he nodded.
"Sorry is the easiest thing to say these days. While taking responsibility is difficult. Speaking the mind and listening to the heart is difficult. No?" he asked, and I smiled weakly and nodded.
"I realised it lately," I muttered and he nodded. "But, I promise I will keep Trisha so much happy. I mean she has not forgiven me yet but I will do everything to earn her forgiveness, but," I took a pause and lowered my gaze.
"But, I feel she will not have a change of heart until you will forgive us first. Especially her," I said, and lifted my gaze to look at him, "I assure you, whatever happened, Trisha had nothing to do with it. I am the only one at fault here. Even—"
Suddenly, Trisha touched my wrist and I looked at her. She shook her head.
I gulped and looked away from her.
"Even, I forced her to marry me. She did not want to marry me," I managed to say and I could not help but feel an ache in my chest just by saying it.
"You forced her?" he asked, and I pulled my hand from Trisha's hold.
"Ji," I muttered. "So, she should be forgiven. I should be held responsible for it," I said and suddenly he pushed the plate away and stood up.
"She shall not return with you," he roared in anger. "Trisha, you will stay here with me. I do not care what the world says. If there is no love and respect for you by him, you are always welcome here. Marriage is not a joke that you could glue to someone," he yelled at me and I closed my eyes for a moment.
It scared me as hell.
"Ridiculous. Spoiled Prince. Mannerless," he blabbered and walked away from there in anger.
"Are you out of your mind?" Trisha's angry voice caught my attention too. "Why the hell did you say that?" she asked, and I gulped with weakness. "Where was the lie though?" I asked, and she sighed, rolling her eyes.
"Idiot!" she stood up too, walked around to take her father's plate and almost ran after him.
This needed to be done. I should be held responsible for everything I did. , Trisha would not happy until Guruji will forgive her. And, he would not forgive her until he knew the truth.
Just like I needed to know the truth of my father taking his turban off in front of Trisha to forgive her.
I was not very fond of Guruji. It would not matter to me if he would not forgive me. But, Trisha cares about him more than me. She was always scared of him. She agreed to marry Shantanu for him, and I think that she might have not said anything to my proposal because of him, too.
Well, what happened, happened.
I shall enjoy mixed vegetables and Kheer.
Agastya came back and looked at me with shock. "I did not tell you to be brave in front of Guruji. You just complicated everything for you and Jiji," he said, sitting down and getting back on his food.
"It will not be anything new. She will fight with and she already fights with me," I said and smiled.
We both finished eating and I took Trisha's plate inside and covered it with a clean one. I would ask her to eat later.
She needed time with Guruji. And, I should not disturb father and daughter.
So, I walked out and found Agastya strolling around.
"So? A walk?" he asked and I shook my head.
"I shall wait for her," I said, worrying that she would not eat if the things would not go right.
He nodded and walked away from there, playing with a dagger in his hand.
I had nothing to do. So, I just sat on the cot and stared at the cottage, the courtyard and the trees around until Trisha came back with an empty plate.
"He ate?" I asked and she sighed deeply.
"Trisha, I am sorry," I said, standing up and walking behind her.
She kept the plate in a corner where the used ones were kept and walked inside. I looked around and found no one watching us, I walked inside too, after her.
"What the hell were you thinking?" she asked turning around and looking at me with anger.
"That, you will feel better if he starts talking to you," I said, and she hurriedly took her steps towards me. And, I stepped back a little with fear.
"Who told you to do that?" she asked, almost holding my collar, but stopped herself. I closed my eyes for a moment.
"No one. No one told me to marry you forcibly either. So, I wanted to make it right at least for you. I did not lie," I said, and suddenly she pushed me against the wall and looked angrily into my eyes.
"Abhi, he would not let me go with you now. You heard him?" she asked, and I nodded.
"You should not come with me either unless you want to. Just today I learnt that love should be led by a woman, and I tied you with me on my wish, you did not agree to marry me," I tried to explain and I seemed to be failing terribly.
She sighed deeply and rolled her eyes. A tear rolled down her cheek and she palmed her face.
"Abhi, whatever you think all the time is not correct," she said, and I nodded.
"Yes, that's why I told your father that it was not your mistake—"
"Mistake?" she immediately looked up at me with anger. "Our marriage is a mistake for you?" she asked, and I shook my head with fear.
"I did not mean that," I tried to say.
"You know what?" she said, and I gulped with fear. Her fierce angry eyes were making me feel uncomfortable and frightened. "You are impossible to understand. Just when I was trying to understand you, you created a new blunder," she said, and I lowered my gaze.
"I am sorry. But, he should not be punishing you for whatever I di—"
"We did," she cut me off. "We married each other," she said and I lifted my gaze to look at her. "For God's sake, you did not force me. I wa... I wanted to marry you too. It's just not for some stupid reason. I wanted to marry you after hearing that you liked me," she raised her voice in a whisper and I shook my head.
"But, you did not say 'yes' when I proposed," I said and she looked away for a moment with strong inhaling.
"Because you did not come to marry me because you liked me. You just came to marry me, to marry me. I asked you 'Why', I did not deny you. And, I have all the right to be angry. Among all of the person who thinks I am a cow, I expected you to treat me right like you always did. I wanted you to respect me, like you always had, and that was why I was angry with you," she said, and bit on her lip.
"That is why I am angry with you," she corrected herself and I nodded with fear. I could not say anything. I could hardly speak when she got angry.
"You know, I could not say that. I was angry too," I tried to say and she stepped closer.
"Yes, I know," she immediately said. "Can you just stop justifying your wrong things again and again? It was not my place to tell you anything about your family or whatever I knew about your family. It is your family, and your responsibility to know and care about them. Do you understand?" she whispered with anger and I simply nodded.
"Yes, yes, I understand now," I said.
"Good," she muttered and turned around.
I stood frozen.
That was hot. She never talked to me like that.
"I just do not want you to be upset because of my mistakes," I tried to say and suddenly she turned back and stepped closer to me.
She inhaled deeply held my kurta over my chest and looked into my eyes. "You know what my patience is hanging by a thin thread and it is the only thing that is stopping me from slapping you right across your face and killing you," she said with anger and I felt weak in my knees.
"Abhinandan Mahablesh," she breathed. "My father, your Guruji did something that pissed me off and it was the thing that influenced me to marry you," she said in a low voice and I knit my brows with confusion.
"What?" I asked, and I noticed her lowered her gaze and a trail of tears rolled down her cheeks.
"I was ready to marry Shantanu, even my heart did not want to. I was ready to dream about him and do everything he liked me to. Because he always wanted me to be the best child he could show off. And...," her voice broke. "And, of all the days of my Haldi, he did not even come to see me once and do the ritual. He was so desperate to marry me off. It did not really matter to me whom I was marrying. He just wanted me away. He thinks that it did not hurt me but it did. If you are the one who hurt me the most, he is no better either," she said and I immediately stepped closer to her.
"Hey," I muttered and wrapped my arm around her, collecting all my strength.
"He must be angry," I tried to say and she shook her head. "He would have always been angry no matter if I married Shantanu or you. No one can understand that except me," she said, and I pulled her closer into a hug and she broke into cries.
"He just wanted to prove himself right. He wanted to prove that you are a wrong choice for me, and by telling the truth of our marriage, you gave him the reason, Abhi, you are so so so stupid," she muttered and I closed my eyes.
I did not know that.
"I am sorry. But, truth is truth," I said and felt her wrapping her arms around me and crying against my chest. Her voice muffled and I placed my other hand on her head and placed my chin on her head.
"Please, make everything right. I beg you. I am so done with all of you expecting the right things from me. And, it frustrates me to keep failing in that," she said, and I opened my eyes while rubbing her back.
"I will," I managed to mutter. "I promise," I added.
"And, I do not want to stay here and see the hatred in him for me every day. I cannot stay here to see how terrible daughter I have proven myself to him," she broke into more cries and I could not help but feel tears in my eyes.
"You are not, Trisha. You are a perfect daughter. You never did anything to hurt him. You never stood low from expectations. You are perfect. It..." my voice broke. "It's just time is wrong," I managed to say and could not help but think what Nandani felt when everyone was still opposing her.
"You are right, Trisha," I muttered. "We men are stupid. I made a mistake. I should have proposed the wedding earlier. I was late realising my heart," I said, and she fisted her hands tightly on my Kurta.
I opened my eyes and gently cupped her face to make her look at me. "Trisha, what did he say?" I asked, and she sniffed a little. "He told me that he was right. He warned me before I went to meet you in Pratapgarh and he is happy now," she said, and I bit my lip, noticing how beautiful and cute she looked while sobbing.
"You are a stupid man and so impossible to understand," she said, holding my hands and I stayed silent.
"I feel better after telling him," I could not stop myself from saying and she closed her eyes, tilting her face slightly into my palm and I inhaled deeply, noticing her long and thick lashes. A loose strand of her hand fell closer to her lip, and I gulped, gently pushing it away with my thumb.
She opened her eyes and lazily looked into mine. Something changed in her and I noticed her feeling my thumb against the corner of her lips.
It was doing something to me.
"What if he asked you why you forced me?" she asked in a slow voice and I licked my lip, lowering my gaze.
"He did, actually," I muttered and she placed her hand on mine, over her cheek. "And, I told him that I forced you because I liked you," I muttered in a low voice and she looked into my eyes.
"And, what is truth?" she asked, and I weakly smiled.
"Will you judge me?" I asked, and she shook her slightly.
"Will you taunt or tease me?" I asked further and she shook her head again.
"Will you anyone?" I asked and she still shook her head.
"And, you promise you will not hate me?" I asked again and she knit her brows.
"You wanted to kill me?" she asked and I chuckled.
"You are mad," I muttered and looked into her eyes with a soft gulp. "You promise?" I asked again and she nodded weakly.
"I promise," she muttered and I brushed my thumb against her cheek to erase the trail of tears.
"I really liked you when we were young. But, since you are older than me, I only tried to share it with my mother. And, she thought that we would be friends, good friends, so that's why I did not try to meet you after Gurukul ended. An... and, I thought that you would never like me, and you would hate me. And, I was okay with you being a sage and unmarried. Because... because you know not every kind of feeling should be named or cannot be named," I tried to mutter.
"Bu... but, everything changed when you returned. An... and, I was actually happy but I knew my father. I knew he would have asked you—"
"Why me?" she asked, and I smiled weakly.
"I know no other girl than you," I said, and she brought her hand to my chest and asked.
"Not even a friend?"
I shook my head. "No," I muttered and cleared my throat a little. "So, you know what happened later," I said and she asked with knit brows.
"You wanted to marry me at the age of sixteen?"
I immediately shook my head. "No, no, no, are you stupid?" I asked.
"What happened later?" she asked and I looked into her eyes.
"You decided to get married and I discovered you hid things from me. So, I lost it," I muttered in a low voice and she just stared blankly into my eyes.
"You are possessive about me?" she said, and I nodded slightly.
"A little," I muttered and she shook her head.
"I am telling you that you are possessive about me. You think that no one can touch me, think about me and no one can even see me," she said, and I lowered my gaze.
Well, I would not like anyone to touch her, think about her or even see her as I see her.
"Okay," I agreed and she chuckled. A lone tear crawled down her cheek and I washed it away.
"You are impossible to understand," she muttered and I closed my eyes to collect all my strength to kiss her forehead.
Her problem was mine now. Her tears were my pain. Her problems were mine to solve and I would do them.
"Trisha, you are anything but a cow," I immediately said pulling back. It triggered me when she called herself a cow.
She was mine. And, I would not like anyone to call her anything except it's on the good side.
She chuckled all of a sudden and I noticed she bit her lower lip.
