Trisha POV
"But I have one condition," I heard Maasa say, and my smile weakened. The thought of irritating Yuvraj seemed to me backing off as soon as she added. "You both will do some rituals,"
I looked at Yuvraj, who was looking at me, too. "What rituals?" he asked, and Maasa just smiled.
"Tell me if you will or not?" she asked. He looked at me again momentarily before nodding slowly and calculatingly. "I will," he finished.
In no time, we all walked to his chamber. As we sat in an open area on two low-height stools opposite each other with a metre-long space between us, she asked a few attendees to bring a few things I had no idea about. Daadisa sat on the couch, always smiling. "I hope Nandani stayed for this at least," she said, and I remembered what Queen Nandani was about here.
And somewhere, I felt as if she was right about those feelings. She stayed here for three days, and not even once did I find Yuvraj talking to her. All this while, she had been nothing but supportive of him. She did not even say anything to him this time after he behaved way too rudely with her.
I could overlook any of his stupidity or deeds, but he was knowingly hurting his family. He knew that his words would bleed them, and he enjoyed the pain of it.
"I told her to, but she is right in her place. We are all here to welcome the new bride, but she is all alone, and most importantly, she is the Queen. One has to go when the duty calls," Maasa said, putting a wide milk vessel between us.
"I think something is wrong. Rudra did not come to take her, either. I hope everything is fine between them," Daadisa said, and suddenly Yuvraj interrupted.
"Can you please stop talking about them? Their wedding is over. Can we focus on mine?" He asked in a slightly irritated voice. We all looked at him.
This angered me, and I inhaled deeply, trying to control my tongue in front of the elders.
"Abhinandan, I am not talking to you. I am talking to your mother," Daadisa said in a severe tone, and this time, I could tell she was angry. "I hope we still have the freedom to talk about whoever we want to," she added, and Maasa glared at Yuvraj too.
"Sometimes, I highly doubt that you two are twins," she said, and Yuvraj looked at me with a slight blink.
"You meant in a good way," he said to her mother, but she did not answer.
She picked up the rose petals' plate and scattered a few handfuls of them into the milk.
"Abhinandan, can I have your ring?" she asked, and he looked at his hand. He still was not wearing any, except the one he had stolen from me. Looking at me momentarily, he took it off his thumb and gave it to her.
"Here," he said, taking it from his hand. Maasa looked at me with a beautiful smile.
It eased up my heart, too.
"Trisha and Abhinandan," she called both of us. "I will put this ring in the milk, and you both have to find it. Whoever will do more times out of thrice will be considered to have a winning hand in the future," she explained, and Yuvraj looked at her.
"In what?" His voice was low, and she looked at him.
"In everything, like making decisions and winning arguments. It's like the one who will dominate," she explained further, and he looked at me.
"Who won at your time? You or Baapusa?" He asked, and suddenly, Daadisa interrupted. "We did not do this at Abhishree's time. But, she won since day one," she said, and I could not help but notice how brightly Daadisa's eyes sparkled every time she talked about Maasa. It was as if she was immensely proud of being her daughter-in-law.
"And I wish the same for Trisha," she added, and I lowered my gaze timidly.
"Do you two not want your son to be the dominant one?" he asked, and both of them laughed together.
And he looked like a cute kid waiting for the answer.
"The most dominant thing you have ever done is marry Trisha. And the way you did it was wrong. So, we believe in Trisha's dominance now," Maasa said, smiling a little.
"So, I am putting the ring in, and you two must be quick to find it," she said while taking her hand inside the milk vessel and moving it around a little before returning her hand.
The ring was inside now.
I stared at the milk to see where it could be, but he did not wait. He immediately pushed his hand in.
"I will win," he said, laughing like a monster, "Hahhahahahha." It was fake laughter, and I could not help but laugh seeing him.
I also pushed my hand inside. We were being watched by many attendees and two biased supporters of mine. The cold milk tickled against my palm, and I noticed Yuvraj shifting closer and being involved in it with all his brain and strength.
Speaking of strength, he was strong indeed. All the time he tried to hold me and apply his masculine strength, I found myself losing my senses and control.
But as my father narrated an old tale back in the day, I could not help but remember it now. He told me how a full-size elephant could be controlled with a little bit of brain. He would agree to everything you wanted him to do, just with a thin stick in your hand. And sometimes wisdom is more powerful than strength.
I saw him moving his hand around the vessel like someone would churn the buttermilk. The milk was moving around. And, if this were happening, the ring would be settling down in the middle. But, he had to take his out hand of it.
"I will win," he exclaimed, and I gulped nervously while moving my hand closer to his. I stopped his hand, and he lifted his gaze to look into my eyes.
I could not help but smile a little. He was cute.
As I tried to search for the ring, his hand tried to push mine away. That was it. The milk became at rest, and I immediately took my hand to the middle of the vessel. Only in a few moments, my finger brushed against it, and I took it out.
"I win!" I exclaimed, and everyone laughed.
To be honest, it felt good. But, as soon as I realised my voice was overexcited, I shrunk in.
"You cheated," Yuvraj said, and I looked at him.
"What? How?" I asked, and Maasa interfered.
"She did not. Abhinandan. Come on, she is your wife. Is not it good to see you winning?" she asked, and he looked at me for a moment before speaking in a slow voice. "Not from me," and rolled his sleeves up for the second round.
The game turned slightly serious as I also shifted closer to the vessel. I noticed his eyes glaring at me and immediately lowering as Maasa dropped the ring back into it.
He immediately pushed his hand inside, and so did I. Our hands battled for a few moments before I noticed his finger brushing against the ring. I hurried to get a hold of it.
"This is mine," he exclaimed as I inserted my finger halfway into the ring to snatch it from him.
"Oh, really?" I asked, trying to remind him that it belonged to me.
"Well, you gave it to me," he said, and I scoffed. "I never," I said, and he inhaled deeply before putting his other hand inside, too. He held my wrist and began to pull the ring out of my finger. I looked at Maasa. She did not say anything and only laughed.
So, I put my other hand inside, too. The droplets of milk flew across our faces as we tried harder for the ring. His hold on me tightened, and I could not but wince in pain a little. No matter how young he was, he was stronger than me.
"Ah," I cried out, and he immediately left my hand and looked into my eyes.
"Are you okay?" he asked, and I looked at him, too. Meanwhile, he got distracted, so I took the ring out.
"This is cheating! She cheated twice," he raised his voice and looked at Daadisa and Maasa, laughing. And all I could do was laugh.
"I have already won. Got the ring two times out of three," I said. This was turning out really good. I liked it.
"Everything is fair," Daadisa said, and he inhaled deeply as Maasa prepared herself to drop the ring from a bit higher after churning the milk a little.
My gaze was fixated sharply on her hand. I did not want to miss the chance to have him taste the loss. He was a spoiled prince, and nothing could frustrate him more than losing something, even if it was a silly game. Or a good ritual.
"Ready?" Maasa asked, and I nodded. He did not react to anything. I kept my hand steady to immediately put it in, but the moment Maasa dropped the ring, he moved his hand way too fast to catch it before it could fall into the milk.
"I win!" he declared, and my mouth hung open.
"This is cheating," I breathed. "How could you? The ring did not even fall into the milk," I said, and he laughed.
"I win. As Daadisa said, everything is fair; I win," he said, showing me the ring before sliding it into his thumb. I gritted my teeth.
"It is mine," I said, leaning forward to hold his hand. He leaned backwards. I felt restrained because of the vessel between us.
"Maasa!" I exclaimed, looking up at her, and she just smiled.
"I am busy," she said, and I fisted my hand, trying harder.
And, suddenly, he splashed the milk on my face. "Whooshh, sit back," he said, making fun of me. This was it.
As I began to stand up, he quickly got up and took a few steps back.
"This is cheating. This is not finished yet. You cannot do this," I said, and he just laughed. I looked at Maasa. Why was she not saying anything? And the moment I noticed everyone leaving, I took matters into my own hands.
Lifting the heavy skirt slightly, I ran around the vessel and the couch to reach him. But he moved quickly and ran behind the curtain. I turned around to look at Maasa.
"Maasa, wait for me. I will win," I assured her and she just nodded.
"I believe you," she said, and I ran after him. This was his chamber, but it was similar to mine. Only the colours of the curtains, carpets and couches were dark, and it was slightly dull.
"I win, Trisha. Accept it; you lost," he said, leaning against a pillar, and I shook my head. The sunlight was falling on him, and I could not help but take a moment to look around. It was beautiful. The curtains were drawn to the sides, and the morning light was falling as if it were in my father's house. Our chambers were built so that the first light would fall in his chamber and the last would fall in mine.
There were books all around. On the table, one opened on the couch and a few in the corner. And suddenly, the noise of pigeons caught my attention.
I looked up at the corners of the chamber above the tall windows. There were hundreds of pigeons there, looking at us. A slight smile appeared on my face.
"Since I have won, I must wear it back," his voice caught my attention, and I immediately looked at him.
"No, you cannot. First, it is my ring," I began stepping closer to him. "Second, I won twice, and you interrupted the third round by stealing it," I stood to my ground, and the moment I was in the one-metre diameter, he took a few steps back.
I raced my steps, and he began to run backwards.
"I am not giving you back," he said, lifting his hand. Meanwhile, I shook my head. I have won, and I would dominate. And, if this was the case, I meant to win this, too.
I ran after him, and he increased his speed. He disappeared into one of the big doors, and I found the soldiers standing outside it, walking away.
Why was no one helping me?
I did not need anyone's help either.
I ran inside it, and I noticed the dimly lit bedroom. There was not much light, as only a window was behind his bed. And, unlike the bed arrangement in my chamber, he had it in the middle of the room. There were couches in front of the bed around a table.
And, suddenly, my sight fell on him circling, showing me his winning dance.
"I hate you," I muttered, and ran towards me. He immediately escaped me, and I inhaled sharply.
"Abhi, this is mine. And you cannot cheat," I said, and he looked at me with a pouting face and thin gaze.
"I won. Say whatever you want," he said, and I sighed deeply before running after him. He immediately ran faster around the bed. The noise of my heavy anklets and bangles echoed in the chamber.
"You are noisy," he complained, as hearing the tickles of the heavy jewellery, the pigeons flew out. The noise of them slapping their feathers and my attire was too much.
"All thanks to your stubbornness to marry me," I said, stepping up on his bed to reach him closer. He laughed, and his eyes widened, walking backwards.
As I stepped closer to him, he crashed against the couch and fell on it. I immediately ran towards him; this time, he managed to escape by a fraction of a moment.
"That was close," he said, placing his hand on his chest.
"Urghhhhhh," I groaned in frustration, and he laughed out loud.
"Hahahahhahahahaha, you behaved like an angry cow," he said, and I scoffed.
"Wait until I catch you, and you behave like a scared kitten," I said, and he shook his head.
"Keep dreaming, my dear wife," he chuckled.
He walked back towards the bed, and I noticed his feet close to the carpet. The way he was walking, he would stumble upon it.
And when he did, I immediately jumped on him, and my hand reached to his wrist. He was fast enough to straighten it up over his head.
"Oh My God! You would have killed me," he said and tried to push him away with his arm, but I collected myself and climbed over him a little and laughed when I finally reached his hand.
I held his thumb to pull the ring out, but he fisted his hand over mine suddenly, and I could not move it even a bit.
It was the moment when realisation hit me of our position on the bed.
