03 | It Kills Me

Micah closed the door to his car, making sure to hit the locks to ensure that no one would pull on the door handle hoping to score any belongings from his luxury car. He stuffed his hands in the pockets of his jacket, walking towards the apartment complex he was headed for.

"Nah bruh, gimme my money ian finna let you get off dat easy." A voice called out before he snatched the money that was in the center of the circle they were forming. He swore every time he came around they were shooting dice. "Aye preppy, come here. You trynna lose some of dem racks you carry on you?"

Micah kissed his teeth, waving his head to the side. "Devin, I told you bout callin' me dat shit, G." He responded walking up to the group of five. Realistically, he didn't know any of their names besides his cousin Devin. He wasn't looking to learn any of their names either.

Devin lifted his head to get a good look at his younger cousin. Shaking his head slightly, he glanced back at the dice game. He was starting to get annoyed by the way his cousin wanted to fit in so bad. Doing things he would've never done had he been in his natural setting.

Micah was beginning to change the way he spoke, his hobbies, and everything else under the sun to cultivate a "hood" persona. The reason Devin didn't regularly hang out with him was that Micah was easily influenced and was now becoming a try-hard.

"What I told you bout talkin' like dat, stop pump fakin." Devin stressed, trying to correct his behavior the best he could before he let it get out of control. Devin was trying his best but he knew he couldn't control a grown man , even if it was his cousin.

Micah shook his head and waved the boy off. "Ian pump fakin' what yall on today though? Just this?" He quizzed, leaning against the wall carefully, knowing he wouldn't join in on the game. Instead he would stand by and observe , he never had the best luck when it came to gambling.

Devin finally stood up straight, towering over everyone present standing at the tall height of 6 feet, 5 inches. "Nah, I'm done. I know when I push my limits." He spoke coolly. He had already won over five hundred dollars, he would take his win before he got too big headed and started losing money.

"So watchu bout to do now." Micah asked like a true rookie. To the others it seemed like Micah was always following Devin around, studying this every move so he could figure out how to be like him. It was truly pathetic if you asked anyone with eyes.

Most people that he called himself hanging around everyday didn't even know him. Everyone he considered himself cool with or even plain old associates with—just saw him as Devin's lame little cousin. He was obviously trying to prove himself but was going in the wrong direction of what his goal was.

"Finna go cop some weed, get dummy high, and take a fat ass nap." Devin explained stuffing his money in his pockets while his friends continued to play the dice game, ignoring him. Now that Devin was out—hopefully that meant someone else would get a chance to win some money.

Micah nodded, "Oh aight cool. So I can chill at yo spot fa' a lil? Ian trynna go home." Micah asked his cousin, knowing that no matter how much of a hardbody his cousin was, he couldn't say no to him regardless. Devin never said no to Micah, out of the love he harbored for him.

Devin reluctantly nodded, but needed to know the reason behind why. "Yeah, why you ain't trynna go home though. We cool and all, but you be cuttin' into my play time." Devin complained making Micah deviously smile, not believing that for a second. That wasn't even in Devin's character.

"Stop lying. Hoes don't give a fuck who you got sitting in the living room. As long as you close that room door they gon' smash—and they might even be extra loud too." Micah laughed causing the rest of them to laugh as well, knowing the truth behind his words.

Devin flicked his wrist turning his lip up. "I fuck respectable young women, not mufuckas down to get fucked on the side of the building if needed." He argued while they laughed at him. "Yall fuck bitches wit no self respect then wonder why yall got STDS." He shook his head.

"Who the fuck got a STD?!" They all looked up in sync, taking offense to his words because they had never acquired a sexual transmitted disease in their life.

Devin only laughed at their reactions. Maybe he went far, but he wasn't lying that much. They had sex with anything. "Fuck that, how yo girl doin'. We been hearing bout her OG finally getting sentenced." Devin shifted the conversation.

One of his friends looked up. "Wait, you knocking down bad ass Jojo?" He questioned making Micah's chest swell with pride. His girl was untouchable and he loved that he knew she was only for him. She respected him, and vice versa.

Nodding his head, Devin slapped him in the chest. "Don't pillow talk bout yo girl with these niggas, they believe in sharing." He put his cousin up on game. "I wouldn't even have let him calling her bad slide, but since she ain't goin, you cool." Devin shook his head.

"They can't fuck my girl anyway. That's all mine, she know dat." Micah spoke confidently.

"Yeah whatever nigga."

"Damn," One of Devin's friends whispered, and Micah turned his attention to what had theirs, growing mesmerized by what he saw. "Now her right there, that's a freak." He pointed.

Micah raised an eyebrow at his words. He pulled his bottom lip between his top and bottom row of teeth. The girl walking up to him had a darker skin tone, plump lips, and small eyes. What really had his attention though was how small her waist was compared to how big her lower half was.

She was proportioned amazingly. The closer she grew, the more the recollection of Josiah faded to the back of his mind. "Hey," She greeted once she was right in front of him.

She had been hearing a lot about him, and more importantly—how much money he came from. Knowing Devin was his cousin put the icing on the cake. He was fine, had money, and seemed green if you asked her. "Me?" He pointed at himself before clearing his throat. "Wassup?" He looked down at her small stature.

She was basically a fun sized snickers bar compared to his girlfriend, but that didn't change anything. "Nothing, I been waiting for you to approach me but I guess I just had to take matters in my own hands. I'm Kenzie." She admitted boldly.

Devin stood aside still leaning on the wall calmly, watching the whole encounter go down.

"Oh nah...I got a girl." Micah's voice grew lower than before, letting her know he didn't want to say it, but needed to make the point that he had one, just so that he could say he did. Luckily, she didn't care.

"Is your girlfriend here?" She didn't even know of the girl, and she definitely didn't care either. When he shook his head she smiled. "Right, and I won't tell. Are your friends gonna tell?" She questioned.

He licked his lips, growing aroused by the authority she held. She was going for what she wanted, and being sure she got it by any means necessary. "Nah. They cool." He spoke for them, while Devin shook his head in disappointment.

Not even thirty seconds ago he was boosting his girlfriend saying how she was loyal, but was now disproving his own loyalty. "Don't do her like that bruh." Devin decided to be his voice of reason.

"Shut the fuck up and mind your business, Devin." Kenzie spat towards him, not believing he was cock blocking his own cousin. She didn't know him personally, but everyone knew of everyone in the complex. Word got around fast about every little detail occurring in the living establishment.

Devin sighed and ignored her. "Bro, you got a girl." He looked at Micah, while Kenzie grabbed his hand. Micah felt like there was a devil on his shoulder and an angel on the other. Kenzie was so enticing, but Devin made a good point—the only point that should've mattered.

Micah finally allowed her to grip his hand, and she smiled. "Let's go to my house." She persuaded while Devin looked at him with hooded eyes. His cousin couldn't have been more stupid. All Kenzie saw him for was dollar signs.

Nodding his head he allowed her to pull him along, straying from the group and most importantly his cousin. "His dick gon' burn off." Devin muttered once they were far away.

"Nah," His friend laughed, "Worse."

Devin finally leaned off the wall. "I warned his ass, tried to be a good big cousin. Now he gotta learn on his own." He was angry for Josiah. His cousin was breaking his loyalty to a smart, beautiful young woman with a bright future ahead, for a hood rat who didn't even want to leave the hood. "Finna go get high."

Micah was still allowing Kenzie to pull him until they arrived to her door on the first floor. All she had to do was open it since her mom wasn't home and she always left it unlocked.

Micah was a little shocked when they finally walked in to see how trashed the home was. He didn't know what he was expecting, but he couldn't believe she had brought him into her house with it all messed up the way it was. "Damn." He blurted out loud.

Kenzie acted like she didn't hear him. He wasn't there to criticize her house, she and her mom rarely cleaned up because they were never home. He was there to handle business, and leave. "Let's go to my room." She led him, her hips swaying with every strut.

Just like that his mind strayed away from the circumstances, back to what he wanted from her. "Hey, before we do this, you think I could get some money for this outfit I want? It's a party this Friday." She tested her luck, wondering how hard she had to work to get money out of him.

He looked at her weirdly as she closed her room door, confused by her asking him for money. "What? Can I?" She asked, slowly dropping to her knees, figuring this would better to convince him.

Tucking his lips he watched her pull his dick out, and once she gripped it and kissed the tip he grew weak. "Yeah fasho, just don't stop." He immediately agreed, and she smiled looking up at him before sticking her tongue out running it up his shaft.

Sweeping his dread locks from out of his face, Paris lifted his head at the sound of the door opening. "Wassup nigga, watchu trynna get into?" His cousin Jordan entered, making sure to close the door behind himself. Paris rolled his eyes, shaking his head unsure of why he still hung with him regularly.

Lilah lifted her head, looking between Paris and Jordan, wondering how Paris would respond since she was in his presence. She didn't want him to have to drop her off, and this was exactly why she couldn't stand Jordan. She felt like he was always ruining the alone time between the two of them. At this rate, she and Dice would never make a real connection.

Nibbling on the inside of her lip, she remained quiet leaving the decision completely up to him. Deep down she could do nothing but hope that he would choose the reasonable option, which was to stay and chill with her. She knew the truth though, he would probably take her home.

Paris raised his eyes, allowing them to sweep over his cousin who looked like he was dressed for the day. Paris and his cousin had been roommates for a total of an entire year now. It was just easier for the both of them since they didn't want to live in their parent's homes anymore.

That being said, they figured each other wouldn't be so bad—and thus far it hadn't. They grew up as best friends, so they rarely argued, and understood boundaries. The biggest issue was company, and even then it wasn't them. They hated when a companion would be to loud, until it was them, somehow they became deaf then.

"Shit ion know, you talked to Tre?" Paris spoke up, giving Lilah the impression that maybe he would decide to stay in for the day with her. Paris was sitting on the side of his bed, and Lilah had her legs thrown across his lap comfortably.

She didn't realize, Paris wasn't looking for the company, but he was beginning to realize he coddled her feelings out of pity sometimes. Though it wasn't ideal, he had a heart—and he did his best in trying not to damage others. His father taught him that at a young age.

Jordan waved his head, signaling he was about to speak. "Yeah I did, but you know with his sister here he ain't really been wanting to hang out. He would rather her hang out with her than us." Jordan pointed out, pulling on the small amount of chin hair he had.

Lilah tilted her head, surprised by the new, news. "Treyvon has a sister other than True? Where the fuck have I been to miss that. I'm confused." She spoke up, including herself in the conversation. Just to remind Paris that she in fact was there and wasn't looking to be forgotten.

Paris nodded his head, passing her the blunt so she could hit it like he just had. "Yeah, his pops got another daughter from Chicago. She cool if you ask me." He uttered, his eyes glancing back to Jordan who was still standing there in front of them.

It was Jordan's turn to be shocked at Paris speaking up. "Aye, what you mean she cool, you talked to her?" He had never seen the two of them communicating, in fact he was sure they had only been in the presence of each other one time and Paris didn't even spare her a glance then.

"One time, and it was some short shit. Nothing serious." He told his cousin , knowing his cousin could have a big mouth. The wrong thing getting back Treyvon would make him look suspect, and although he found the boys little sister attractive, he knew his boundaries. "I'm only saying she cool cause she ain't do to much." He added.

Jordan nodded at his explanation since that made sense. For a second he thought his cousin had held out on him  about something. "So what, you chillin in the house all day or what?" He quizzed.

Paris let out a breath, taking the blunt that was being passed by Lilah—she was absorbing everything being said in front of her. "Just ask Tre if he wanna do sum, I'm tired of sitting in da house. He could bring his sista." He suggested, blowing smoke out the side of his mouth.

"You sure youn want ha," Jordan joked, and Paris instantly picked up on his playful retort. He didn't take it with a grain of salt, and Jordan didn't mean it at all anyway. He barely even knew the girl anyway, he just figured she would be around a lot more in the next two years minimum.

It would make sense if they got to know her as well. She was taking up all of Treyvons spare time, so their paths would eventually begin to clash regularly. That was only a guess though, because things could very well be different when she began her semester at school. "Yeah, I got a thing fa legs." Paris joked.

Lilah didn't find it funny, because she knew it was true. Paris only said one word when you asked his type. 'Tall'. He didn't care of about weight, skin tone, or anything of the sort like most, but for him to be so tall , he didn't like being with someone too short. It never really felt right with him, like he was with a kid. It was nothing against it.

"That ain't funny," Lilah leaned up slapping his shoulder bringing his almost silent laughs to a halt. "You better be lucky I'm tall too, or I would feel some type of way." She continued, rolling her eyes. Lilah stood at 5'9 since both her mother and father were extremely tall as well. She was as bound to be tall due to the simple fact.

"My bad, I was just playing anyways. Ion see ole girl like that." He said in hopes to make her feel better. He surely wasn't trying to make her feel uncomfortable by his harmless joke but he never really knew with females. If they never spoke up, half the time he would remain clueless.

Jordan looked between them, feeling the tension and decided it would be best if he left them alone. "Finna hit him up and see what he talkin' 'bout. I'll be back wit a update." He announced before backing out of the room, closing the door to give them privacy

Silence consumed them as she stared at the side of his face while he put the blunt out. "What was that about?" Her question didn't catch him off guard, but he still didn't reply. "Honestly Dice, what are we even doing. Things are starting to get confusing." She didn't hold back.

He hated how she felt entitled enough to feel this way, but couldn't even say his real name if he asked—considering she didn't know it. That spoke enough volumes.

He furrowed his eyebrows. "You the one who suggested the whole friendship with benefits thing, but now you going back. I kid you not, you said this shit ain't have to be complicating." He frowned , staring back at her to let her know he was serious. He could honestly say he had not seen this coming.

"I just feel like because of our arrangement, you no longer respect me the way you used to. Am I misinterpreting or blurring the lines? I wouldn't have suggested this had I knew our entire dynamic would change completely rather than just sexually." She lowly countered making sure Jordan couldn't hear them.

Licking his lips he turned his body. "You want me to be real?" He asked, watching her frown before nodding her head. "The dynamic is still the same, except you expect way more from me as time goes. Really it ain't no issue with me, but closed mouths don't get fed."

Her stumped look prompted him to remain quiet so she could process his words. "Now, if we plan on making plans with Tre, do you wanna join us, or do you want me to drop you off back home." He offered, never realizing how much he made her excited on the inside.

Holding in her smile, she decided to keep her composure. She wanted to show him she could be cool, even if she had to play the friend roll for a while. In her defense, she suggested it so she couldn't be mad at it. "Yeah, thank you for asking." She simply replied.

After contacting Treyvon he agreed the four of them could do something as long as his sister came along. He needed to get her out the house for the day so that their father could come and do her room—so everything worked out perfectly.

Most of them really couldn't decide on exactly what to do, but eventually Tre suggested indoor go karting and it gained a unanimous vote between everyone. They decided to meet there at 5, and it was now four minutes after so Paris and Lilah began climbing out his car.

After paying to get inside they met up with Jordan, Tre, and Josiah since Jordan decided to drive on his own. "Wassup," Paris was the first to speak as he and Lilah made their way up to the group as a duo. Tre looked up from his phone, dressed in a calm ensemble.

"What it do?" Tre greeted his best friend dapping him up quickly before pulling back. "Wassup Lilah, this my lil sister Jojo. Jojo this Lilah, we be hanging wit her from time to time." He took the liberty to introduce the two females who didn't know each other.

Lilah gave her a smile, and put her hand out for a handshake. "Hey, nice to meet you. I was just telling Dice how I had no idea Tre had another sister who wasn't True." She spoke, keeping to Paris' side religiously. She ain't want to move at all, feeling safe in his presence.

"It's nice to meet you too beautiful, and yeah I'm from a different state. I'm here for college. Do you attend?" She asked, assuming Lilah was older than her since everyone else present was, and she was at the age of 21. When Lilah shook her head at the college question, Josiah left it alone.

"Okay, so I've definitely never drove a go-kart before but I really wanna try so someone lead me that way pleaseee." Josiah smiled brightly allowing her eyes to meet everyone around her.

Tre laughed before nodding his head. "Come on baby sis." Josiah was progressively becoming his best friend in such little time. They grew up differently but she was so easy to vibe and get accustomed with.

Even though Tre only addressed Josiah all of them reluctantly followed wanting to do the same as well.

Around 45 minutes had passed, and Josiah was having the most fun she had ever had. She had skillfully learned to go-kart ensuring no crashes, and even won a few races against everyone. After that, the group played more games before Jordan started complaining about wanting food.

"So, Jojo, what you going to school for, lil one?" Jordan spoke up watching her dip her breaded chicken tender in the small cup of ranch they had provided her with. She took out a bite, and fully swallowed before speaking up.

"Getting my associates in interior design, and a minor in photography. If you ever want some professional photos done, I'm your girl for sure." She pointed at herself making all of them smile. She seemed so refreshing in a sense and they liked it.

"What made you choose Daytona of all places." The college wasn't particularly the best, not too bad but for someone in her caliber it definitely shouldn't have been a first choice.

Josiah cleared her throat. "It was more so of a family thing. I feel like I kinda ran out of family on my mom's side, I didn't want to feel alone—so I would've preferred to remain in touch with family." She explained in much easier words, not wanting to delve too much in her personal life with people she was just getting to know.

Everyone could tell so they decided to move on. "Dice bruh, eat." Jordan told his cousin who was looking at the appetizer of chicken nachos he decided on. He just didn't have urge for food in the moment, hunger wasn't there.

"I need to smoke." He retorted, and stood to his feet.

Jordan knew that. It seemed his cousin always had to smoke in order to eat and it was becoming a concern for him. "Let's go then." He offered a solution for the time being.

"Yeah, stay here with Jojo, Lilah. We gon' be right back." Tre followed after them, leaving the two girls.

Lilah stared at Jojo as she silently ate her food in contempt. She studied the girls soft features, she looked so at peace but not at the same time. Paris's words kept flowing through her mind and she couldn't help but wonder if he would eventually take interest in the girl. "So, where's your mom?" She attempted to create conversation.

"Prison. What about yours?" Josiah looked up making eye contact with her. She dipped her tender again waiting for a response but Lilah was rendered in shock.

"She's at home..." She replied quietly, and Jojo giggled finding her reaction funny.

"That's what's up girl."

Mmmm so disappointed in Micah!

We like Lilah for Paris ?? She pretty cool.
