First Lesson (Petekey)
Mikey had the bass over his lap, mindlessly plucking strings. He didn't know what he was doing. He knew why he spent his savings on an instrument he didn't know how to play and got crap from his friends about it.
When he heard the doorbell ring, he quickly set down his bass and ran downstairs. He saw his brother already at the door talking to whoever was on the other side.
"Mikey asked me to come over." Mikey stopped when Pete spotted him over Gerard's shoulder.
"Did he now?" Gerard gave a knowing smirk. Mikey chewed on his bottom lip nervously.
"He said he wanted to learn how to play the bass and that I was the only person he knew who could." Pete motioned down to his own case.
"Really? That's interesting cause doesn't Jon give bass lessons to earn some extra case? Dallon too. Nicole can play. You talk to them almost everyday don't you?" Mikey felt his face heating.
"H-he didn't have the time," Mikey mumbled. "I'm not that close to the others." Mikey was ready to strangle Gerard. His big brother was on the verge of bursting out laughing.
"Right. Well, don't let me get in the way of your lesson. I'm gonna be at Frank's. Tell mom I'll be back by dinner." Pete stepped aside as Gerard walked out.
The two watched Gerard walk down the path. Pete turned back to Mikey and gave a small smile. Mikey was still red faced from Gerard.
"Can I come in?" Mikey nodded quickly.
"Yeah, yeah. Of course." Pete chuckled and shut the door behind him. "My room's upstairs." Mikey led the way hearing Pete following behind. Mikey closed the door when they got to the room.
"That's my bass." He pointed awkwardly at the instrument on the bed. Pete set down his own case and picked up the bass.
"This is gorgeous." Mikey watched as Pete plucked the string creating better sounds than he was able to. "Do you know how to play anything or are you starting from scratch?"
"From scratch?" Pete sat on the edge of the bed.
"Do you know how to read music?" Mike nodded shyly.
"Awesome. So we can get started on learning cords and stuff today." Pete handed over the bass as he reach for his own. Mikey sat on the opposite corner from Pete, his bass in his lap.
"Okay, so I'll show you a G chord." Mikey watched Pete slowly position his fingers over the string. "Go ahead copy the position." Mikey fumbled with his bass and attempted to position his fingers.
"Now strum." Pete ran his fingers over the strings lightly getting a harmonic sound to fill the room. Mikey nodded and followed suite, only getting a plucking sound. Pete chuckled gently.
"It's okay. It might be the position of your hand cause your fingers are in the right spot." Pete leaned over and carefully moved Mikey's hand. It took everything in Mikey to keep from freaking out at the contact.
"There. Try again." Mikey strummed, mimicking the sound Pete's bass made earlier. Mikey smiled at Pete excitedly.
"That was awesome." Pete smiled back.
"Let me show you another chord." Mikey nodded in agreement.
As the time slowly went by, Mikey grew frustrated. His fingerings were off and he couldn't remember the chord positions Pete had gone over countless times.
"This is so stupid," Mikey grumbled.
"You're doing great for a beginner. Don't beat yourself up. Why don't you show me the 1-3-5 chord progression."
Mikey frown and looked down at his fingers, putting them in position. He was about to strum when Pete fixed his finger placement.
He sighed and gave a pathetic strum and moved to his next position. Again, Pete leaned over and moved Mikey's fingers to the proper strings.
"This is stupid." Mikey pushed his bass away. He crossed his arms. Why was he stupid enough to buy an instrument he couldn't play?
"Don't give up. You're doing great."
"I'm really not Pete. I keep messing up and I can't remember the chords. I can barely make a decent sound half the time."
Pete set down his bass and pushed the bass back onto Mikey's lap. He moved until he was sitting behind Mikey. His legs were on both sides of Mikey and his arms came around thin front of them.
"What are you doing?" Pete positioned the Bass correctly on Mikey's lap and moved his hands over Mikey's.
"I'm teaching you." Mikey felt his face heating from the closeness. His could feel Pete's gently breath blowing against his hair.
"Don't stiffen your wrist too much. Relax." Pete guided Mikey's fingers with his own. It was almost like a dance and Mikey was more than willing to let Pete lead.
"First chord," Pete spoke softly and used Mikey's right hand to strum the strings. Mikey turned his head and watched Pete's concentrated face.
"Third." Pete turned to look into Mikey's eyes as he strummed. Mikey felt himself leaning in to close the already small space between them.
"Fifth." Pete's breath brushed against Mikey's lips. His hands moved automaticly under Pete's control.
Their lips connected, slowly moving together. Mikey felt his grip starting to slip from the bass, but Pete had a steady hold for the both of them. Mikey felt butterfly erupt in his stomach as he kissed Pete more surely.
"How's the lesson going?" Mikey jumped up from the bed and moved away from Pete. He frowned when he saw Gerard leaning against the door frame. "Any progress?" Mikey turned to Pete who red faced.
"Um... yeah. M-mikey's learning a lot. We're having fun."
"Well the learning better be only about the bass and the fun stays at a minimum. Understand Pete?" Gerard light mood was gone as he stared at Pete.
"Y-yeah. Of course," Pete nodded quickly. Gerard smirked up at Mikey before leaving the room.
"I'm so sorry," Mikey quickly apologised. He set down him bass and stood awkwardly away from Pete. "I didn't think he'd come back so soon."
"It's okay. We should finish up today anyway." Mikey felt his butterflies die. He didn't want Pete leaving yet. They needed to talk about what just happened. Pete was already putting his bass away.
"But." Pete grabbed his case and went over to Mikey. He connected their lips into a deep kiss. Mikey didn't hesitate to kiss back. He felt Pete smile against him before pulling away.
"I'll be back next week for your next lesson. Okay?" Mikey nodded. Pete gave him another quick kiss before leaving.
Mikey watched him leave before collapsing on the bed. His lips felt tingly as an aftermath of the kissing. He couldn't stop the smile on his face. He loved the bass.
