[CH13] CHAPTER 36
Modred taunted David with a venomous smirk, mocking him for his perceived reliance on the holy flame. But as the derisive words hung in the air, David found himself ensnared in a tumultuous inner struggle.
Caught in the grip of his own thoughts, David's mind became a battleground, besieged by the tempting whispers of the ominous seal, who urged him to unleash its destructive power.
HATRED: "[Speaks In David's head.] Wretched weakling! The light has forsaken you - left you vulnerable in the hands of thy enemy. See now that I am your only companion?" The incarnate spoke in a hoarse tone.
DAVID: "[In his own head.] So funny. You and I know that you are the last thing I'd ever have to rely on,"
HATRED: "[Replies in David's head.] FOOL! Unleash me now before you doom us both! You promised the girl that you will be back, alive. Did you forg.....?"
David forcibly shook himself with a fierce resolve, silencing the insidious whispers of the ominous seal's incarnate before it could ensnare him further. As clarity returned to his mind, he was met with a chilling sight - the Scale Shield elites, their weapons trained upon him, poised to enact Modred's deadly command.
But before the final blow could be struck, a sudden cacophony of warning alarms shattered the tense silence, momentarily diverting the attention of Modred and the soldiers. Sensing an opportunity for escape, David wasted no time, seizing the fleeting moment to break free from the clutches of his adversaries.
He bolted from the scene with a resolute stride, his every step echoing a desperate bid for survival amidst the chaos of battle. With each passing moment, the distance between himself and his would-be executioners grew, his heart pounding with the exhilaration of narrow escape.
Modred, who saw David's fleeing figure, quickly commanded the multitude of elite soldiers to chase after him.
MODRED: "Go! Get that little bastard. Don't let him escape," the sorcerer yelled, his finger pointing at David's retreating form.
As David fled, the elite soldiers pursued him, unleashing a barrage of bullets and energy projectiles. But despite the ceaseless onslaught, David skillfully evade each one.
However, just as he thought he had eluded his pursuers, a new threat emerged from the depths of Modred's dark sorcery. Without warning, the ground around him split open with a deafening crack, and a horde of writhing abyssal tentacles surged toward him. His instincts kicked into overdrive by unexpected assault, his movements fluid as he dodged to the side, narrowly escaping the tentacles' grasp.
David sprinted through the dim passage, catching sight of a doorway. He ran inside it without hesitation and found a staircase that led to an underground tunnel. Ignoring the staircase, he leaped headlong into the tunnel below.
But no sooner had he descended when the swarm of tentacles savagely shattered the doorway, trailing him relentlessly from behind. The tendrils surged out from all corners of the tunnel walls, their attacks augmented by a cacophony of arcane lightning spells, infernal flames, and the sharp crack of gunfire unleashed by Modred and the elite soldiers of Scale Shield.
Overwhelmed by confrontation, David was left in a desperate situation.
He gritted his teeth, his muscles coiling like springs as he narrowly dodged every massive assault hurled his way. From the depths of his resolve, he unleashed torrents of searing fire beams from his eyes and hands, the fiery lights countering the bullets and energy projectiles raining down upon him.
But despite his superhuman agility, David could not evade every blow. An arcane lightning bolt conjured by Modred found its mark, searing brutally into his shoulder with a white-hot intensity. Agony rippled through his body like wildfire, threatening to overwhelm his senses as the electrifying shock coursed through his veins.
With a bone-jarring impact, the force of the blow propelled him through yet another doorway within the labyrinthine tunnel, his body careening uncontrollably into the unknown depths beyond. He collided with the walls of an unfamiliar chamber, the sickening crunch of impact echoing through the air as pain flared to life within his disoriented and battered form.
In the aftermath of his fall, David lay sprawled amidst the confines of a massive cell prison, his body convulsing from the combined trauma of his fall and the searing electric shock that still lingered in his veins.
He managed to roll to the side of the cell, his muscles protesting with every movement as he sought a modicum of comfort against a nearby wall. With a weary sigh, he mustered the strength to sit upright, his body harboring bruises and wounds as he focused on letting them heal.
Amidst the haze of his own recovery, his senses were abruptly sharpened by the presence of another figure nestled within the shadows of the cell. His gaze fell upon the form of a sleeping teenage girl, her peaceful slumber marred by the cruel restraints of chains and strings that ensnared her delicate frame.
A pang of empathy tugged at David's heart as he beheld her plight, his thoughts racing with the weight of wondering if she was the supposed clone that Fiona and Aurora had made mention of.
She was red-haired and had a face just as beautiful as Aurora's. However, she also had a vibe that foretold a dark mystery.
Though hesitant, David cautiously approached the slumbering girl, his movements tentative as he reached out to gently remove the binds that held her. But as his fingertips brushed against the taut strings, the girl's eyes snapped open, her gaze glowing with a feral intensity that pierced through the shadows.
This unexpected aggression caused David to recoil instinctively, his heart pounding with bewilderment as he stumbled backward in alarm. With a sense of impending danger looming in the air, he watched in stunned silence as the girl effortlessly shattered the chains that bound her, her movements fluid and predatory.
She slowly closed the distance between them, her menacing figure becoming more visible.
Her red hair, once cascading downward, now stood on end like a halo of flames, framing her face with an ominous aura. With every step she took, her posture exuded a feral energy, her sharp claws glinting in the dim light as they flexed in readiness for attack.
But above all, it was her eyes that held David transfixed. It had a hue of purple that glowed ominously, a sight unlike anything he had ever witnessed before.
