Chapter 3- Sanskar demands an answer

Swara saw the anger in his eyes and quietly left from there. She now knew that it would be in the best interest of everyone if she didn't befriend Sanskar. It was bad enough for Shekhar that Shamishta invited them over but any sort of mingling with them would upset her Dad and she wouldn't be able to bare that. She took a deep breath before going downstairs again where she saw Ragini who was still talking to Laksh. Laksh was their friend since childhood and even came along with Swara to England. There they had spent some unforgettable moments. He was the only friend she had when she arrived and he left no stone unturned to take care of her and made sure that she never felt sad. Swara went over to Ragini and took the phone out of her hands and disconnected the call.

"Swara!" Ragini yelled giving Swara an angry look. "What was that for?"

"You've talked to him for too long. Mom is calling you go to her." Swara responded with an angry glare and Ragini left quietly as she knew there was no point in arguing with her. Swara went to the living room and sat on the couch with her phone. Sanskar approached her but she ignored him. He tried talking to her but she left from there and went to her room leaving behind a confused Sanskar.

"What's wrong with her?" Sanskar thought to himself, confused by Swara's odd behaviour. She was talking to him non-stop a moment ago and now she was avoiding him. Sanskar shrugged his thoughts and went to his mother who was talking to Shamishta and Ragini. After some time, the Maheshwari's left from there.

The next day, Swara was in her black jogging suit as she walked through the gate of Gadodia Mansion. One of the servants served her juice and straight after drinking it she went upstairs to her room to change. She changed into a simple pair of jeans along with a shirt and left her hair open with some minimal makeup. She went downstairs to eat breakfast and left for University with Ragini. It was was 8 am by then and the sun was shining brightly disturbing Swara's view so she put on her sunglasses as she got out of her car and shut the door behind. She picked up her crossbody bag whilst heading to the classroom ready for her first class. She entered into her classroom and they all looked at her and started whispering. She then saw Prerna who waved at her and indicated Swara to sit next to her which Swara did. "Why are they all looking at me?" A confused Swara asked Prerna. "Did I do something?"

"Of course not! You didn't do anything. They're all looking at you because you're the daughter of The Shekhar Gadodia and on top of that you've come from England." Prerna answered as the class returned chatting among themselves.

The teacher entered inside and immediately the class became quiet. It was 20 minutes into the lesson when a guy entered inside excusing himself for being late. It was Sanskar. "I'm sorry I'm late. Actually there was traffic I couldn't find a taxi." Sanskar said as he entered inside the classroom. The teacher blinked in assurance and told him to go to his seat. Swara noticed Sanskar in the classroom and took a deep breath, trying to hide her face but it went in vain as Sanskar saw her and waved but she didn't wave back, remembering what her Dad said yesterday. Sanskar looked at her confused but shrugged off his thoughts thinking that she may be worried due to some reason. Soon the class had finished and it was break. Swara along with Prerna and Ragini went to the canteen where they saw Laksh sitting with a guy.

"Oh I almost forgot! Swara this is Anurag, our friend." Prerna said as she introduced him to Swara.

"Only friend?" Anurag asked reacting to Prerna's statement.

"Oops sorry. My boyfriend and their friend. Happy?" Prerna corrected herself and looked at Anurag with a sarcastic smile.

"Better." Anurag replied.

"Anyways, Anurag this is Swara, mine and Laksh's childhood friend and Ragini's sister." Prerna introduced them to each other.

"Hi! Nice to finally meet you Swara. Prerna talks about you a lot." Anurag said.

"All good things I hope!" Swara responded. "Prerna you never told me you had a boyfriend!"

" Sorry I forgot" Prerna replied.

They all were chatting amongst each other when Anurag saw Sanskar and waved at him, calling him to where they were sitting. Sanskar came over and Swara looked the other way which made Sanskar feel bad as she had been ignoring him since yesterday without any given reason. Swara too felt bad and guilt for treating him this way and thought what she was doing was wrong and that it was in no way right to hurt someone like this but soon shrugged of her thoughts. After a couple more hours of University, it was the afternoon around 4pm and the sun shined brightly with the scorching heat of the summer. Swara was waiting for Ragini as her class finished a bit earlier than Ragini's and she decided to go home together, Swara was waiting outside on a bench reading a book to occupy her time  when Sanskar came up to her and stood in front but Swara avoided him. He took the book out of her hands to grab her attention whilst she just rolled her eyes at him being annoyed. Sanskar now had enough, he couldn't understand why Swara was treating him this way and what his fault was. She had no right to to ignore him without giving a reason. He may just be a middle class person but self respect mattered to him than anything and he would not tolerate anything against it.

"What exactly is your problem?" Sanskar yelled with fury. "I've been very calm with you since yesterday, why are you ignoring me? Tell me if I did something wrong I'll back off but at least tell me for God's sake!"

Swara looked up at him and sighed. She knew it wasn't fair to him and it was his right to be angry and know the reason but she didn't want to tell him as he might feel bad. "Look Sanskar, there are somethings which are best to be hidden. I'm sorry, I know it's your right to know but I can't tell you. I don't want you to feel bad." Swara replied with guilt.

"I don't care how bad I will feel. Even a criminal gets a reason or accusation before being put into jail so why not me? Just tell me what I did." Sanskar said having enough of Swara's recent behaivour.

"Ok fine. But before I tell you, I hope you know and understand that my family is the most important to me and I would do anything for them." Swara said after taking a deep breath.

"I know. We may not have seen each other for years but I know you well enough." Sanskar replied.

"Thanks. Sanskar do you remember we used to visit each other so often that I regarded your house and family my own and you did to mine? But then one day all of a sudden I didn't visit you for weeks?" Swara said and Sanskar looked at her confused.

"Yes but how has this got anything to do with what I asked you?" Sanskar asked her.

"Because that one day, I learnt that my dad wasn't much fond of your family and every time I would come in contact with you it would upset him so I stopped coming to your house. Yesterday I found out why exactly my dad doesn't get along with your family. It's because you are from a middle class family and he doesn't like actually he hates middle class people. I'm sorry I didn't want to tell you all this because I knew that it would upset you and I won't be able to bear that I hurt your feelings." Swara said in one go with guilt.

"Are you serious?!" Sanskar looked at an ashamed Swara."You just found that out? Oh God Swara! I have known this fact since ages and if you're talking about hurting my feelings then don't worry. I know how important your dad is for you and you will do anything for him. It's not your fault. I understand. But what hurt me was that you didn't tell me. I kept thinking all sorts of things!" Sanskar said as he tried to reduce her guilt.

"You're right I should've told you. You have every right to be angry at me." Swara said as she lowered her gaze. Sanskar held her chin and made her look up at him.

"I'm not angry at you by any means. But just hurt that we've been friends since childhood and you couldn't tell me this. I'm your friend Swara and no matter what I will always support you and understand you." Sanskar said to Swara to which she smiled at him as they shared an eye-lock. Swara's phone starting ringing disrupting their talk. It was Ragini.

"I'm so sorry. One minute" Swara said as she picked up her phone and attended the call. "Yes Ragini where are you?"

"Sorry Swara I won't be able to come. I've got extra classes and they'll take about 3 hours. You go without me I don't want you to wait." Ragini said.

"Are you sure? I don't mind waiting." Swara replied when she noticed that Sanskar was still standing there so she give him a smile.

"Yes I'm sure. Go without me. I'll come with the driver." Ragini replied assuring Swara.

"Ok then. See you!" Swara said as she disconnected the call and went straight back to Sanskar. "I'm sorry about that."

"No it's fine. So how long are you planning to sunbathe for?" Sanskar said making Swara laugh.

"Actually not long, I'm just about to go. I was waiting for Ragini but she has extra classes so I'm going now." Swara said but just then a thought popped into her mind. "Actually if you don't mind and have no other plans then can I drop you home? That way I'll have company and you won't have to wait for the taxi."

"No no it's fine. I don't want to bother you." Sanskar said rejecting the offer.

"How is that bothering me? I'm the one who offered you and plus it's for my own selfish reasons. You see I won't be alone and I'll have some company too. Come on Sanskar!" Swara said trying to persuade him.

"Ok fine. If you insist." Sanskar finally agreed and sat in the car after Swara got in. He sat in the front seat. There was awkward silence to start of with but Swara broke the ice by saying "So are you going to that trip to Kolkata?"

"I don't actually know. The trip costs a lot of money and I don't think I would be able to afford that." Sanskar replied.

"If you don't mind then I could pay for it." Swara said hoping for him to agree.

"No Swara I can't let you do that. It's a lot of money and I don't want you to waste it on me. It's just a trip anyways." Sanskar denied to which Swara glared at him.

"Sanskar I'm not wasting any money. And plus it's the least I can do for you after behaving that way" Swara said averting her gaze in shame.

"Swara I already told you that it's fine. And you don't need to do anything for it." Sanskar said and Swara smiled at him but somewhere she still felt guilty. After some time, they reached Sanskar's house.

"Come in Swara." Sanskar said with a welcoming voice.

"Sorry Sanskar not today maybe some other time." Swara replied politelfuly denying.

"Please I insist. And you know how much Ma likes you. She considers you her own daughter and she would be really happy to see you." Sanskar said trying to persuade her to come in.

"Ok fine only for Aunty." Swara finally gave in and they exchanged a smile.
