Chapter 5

It was the next day and the team was unsurprisingly still at the bau. They all had sandwiches and chips in front of them along with their coffee. The table was littered with case files, paperwork, notebooks, photos

Garcia rose from her chair and started talking "Okay my lovelies we have a list of all of Em's friends and acquaintances, we also have a list of everyone she has put away in her career which let's just say is not a small number" she began. "we're also looking into everyone that has sent threatening notes to the bau in the past. If anyone has more ideas please throw them out" she finishes.

Rossi sighed. He set down the file that he was holding.
"I just don't get it. the message is so vague. what do we do with this?" he said.

"We just have to keep working" Hotch said back.

It was a little later and everyone had finished eating. Garcia was back in her bat cave when she called the conference room phone.
"you all need to get in here. now."she said and hung up instantly. The team was up on their feet and moving before she even ended the call and we're soon at the door to Penelopes office. Everyone entered the room and saw Garcia standing in the middle of the room with her hand over her mouth, staring ahead of her. The team followed her gaze and saw that every one of the monitors in the room was glitching and making a horrible beeping sound.

"I...I tried to stop it". she yelled out. Morgan approached her from behind and put his arm around her shoulder.
The team stood frozen where they were. none of them knowing what to do.

The screens turned from black to gray to bright flashing images when suddenly it all stopped. the screens went black and the room was silent. then, on every single screen appeared the same photo of emily that had appeared at Hotchs and Strauss' apartment. The sounds of women screaming filled the speakers and the word Friday appeared across the screen. The word flashed brightly a few times before disappearing, then the screen went black.

"What the hell is going on?" Morgan said frustrated.

It was just a little while after the incident in Garcia's office. The team was gathered around in the bullpen while Hotchner was up in his office on a conference call.
  JJ sat down beside Prentiss.

"You know he is just suffering up there" Emily said.

"What do you mean?" JJ asked.

"He hates those little phone meetings" she said, chuckling a little bit "they always think they need to check up on him. he gets in trouble for ignoring their calls" Emily was smiling.

JJ laughed.

"I'm going up there" Emily said before heading away from the group and up the stairs to Hotchs office.

She got to the door and he made eye contact with her through the blinds. He put a finger to his lips then motioned for her to come in. She entered quietly, shutting the door as slowly as she could as to not make noise while he was on the phone. He smiled a little and Emily sat down on the couch across from his desk.
Hotch talked for another few minutes on the phone, most everything said on his side being "yes" or "okay". Emily chewed her nails a bit but realized what she was doing and put her hands between her thighs to help her resist the urge. Hotch finally said goodbye and hung up the phone.

"Yoi just came in here to sit on my couch and watch me?" hotch asked with an eyebrow raise.

"yeah right" Emily rolled her eyes. "just came to check on you" she said.

"Shouldn't I be checking on you?" Hotch asked.

"You're the one on the boring phone call" she replied.

"You got that right" he said.

Emily chuckled.
There was a short silence before Emily spoke up.

"So. what are we going to do next?" she asked.

Her bosses face was stern as he listened but his eyes were soft looking into hers. He closed the files on his desk and rose from his chair.

"Well, I think everyone needs to go home for some rest." he said.

"Really? Prentiss replied.

"If it's alright with you. we can come back here fresh in the morning."

"It's alright with me sir. I could use a shower and a change of clothes."

"Great. me too, and I could bet the rest of the team will agree."

"I'll go tell them" Emily said standing up.
Hotchner watched her leave before cleaning up his desk and organizing his files.

It was about half an hour later when the team was all packed up and about to head out. Everyone was standing around chatting and waiting on Hotch. He had told them they didn't need to wait and encouraged them to leave without him but the team tried as frequently as possible to walk out all together as a group at the end of the day so they insisted on waiting. Luckily, their boss was only a few minutes behind them with his bag over his shoulder and his coat in hand.

"Thank you guys for waiting, but again don't feel like you have to wait on me." He said to the group.

"Oh nonsense sir. A few minutes doesn't bother us" Garcia chirped.

Hotch nodded and the team started heading to the elevators. He fell into step with Prentiss and leaned her way slightly.

"Hey, you'll call me if you need anything, right?" he spoke lowly in her ear.

Emily smiled up at him.
"Yeah, I will" she said.

They all finally made it down to the parking lot and Hotch spoke up.

"back here at 7am?" Hotch posed it as a question.
Everyone agreed and headed their own separate ways.

Emily finally made it home and instantly dropped all her belongings on the counter. She changed into sleep shorts and an oversized t-shirt. She turned on reruns of an old cooking show and sat on the couch with a half glass of wine and put a blanket over herself. She knew she should be sleeping but she also knew that she would toss and turn for hours if she didn't spend time unwinding.

She sighed and ran her hands over her face. Thinking about her team and how helpful they have all been. She tried not to think about the threats but frankly it was difficult trying to push it out of her mind. She picked up her cell phone and opened the contacts folder.
Her thumb hovered over Aaron Hotchner. A few moments passed without movement. Emily laughed at herself, turned off her phone and gulped the remaining wine in her glass. 30 minutes later she was in her bed with the lights off.
She quickly drifted off to sleep.
