"Thanks for coming with me, Y/N." Makoto shot me a goofy grin.
"Did i really have a choice?"
I followed makoto around, i know we had to split up in order to find our own clues but i couldnt leave Makoto. The look he gave me was impossible to say no to, however Chihiro and Mondo had to split up...im sure il either meet up with them in a bit or the'll hang out together.
We walked into an office room, it was unlocked along with every other room in the school. Makoto tried to open the locker only to it to jingle a bit. It wouldnt open. "Maybe only the locker's owner can open it. Which means none of us can do it..."
I sighed, "What a shame... What to we do now?"
"I dont know--? What about that emergency handbook I found in the headmaster's hidden room? Okay, let's give it one more try...!" I sighed, Makoto and this damn book. He took the emergency handbook and ran that across the card reader, and it started to beep. Makoto immediately jumped up with glee, he showed me the book, shaking me back and forth. "...I don't see anything that might be a clue..."
I helped him look around the room, a lot of them were closed. "A lot of them are closed. I think this one is opened..."
"Sweet! Good job, Y/N! Now let's see what we've got inside." He pushed me aside.
"This thing is practically empty. Theres not a lot in here but there's just one thing--some kind of pocketbook." I explained, i held up the book. "I don't see a name written on it, so I can't say for sure whose it is. But there's some writing inside. It could be important."
"I don't like violating the owner's privacy..."
"Let's put it back then--"
"Hold on! Hold on! Let's not close it off, I'd better take a look at it." He grasped the book and read it outloud.
The handwriting...it was really pretty. It was really feminine, most likely Kyoko's. Makoto put on a lighter voice when reading from the notebook. I rolled my eyes. All the letters are spaced out evenly, like whoever wrote them was measuring them. Whoever wrote this must have been really meticulous. Go Kyoko, go!
He was rapidly flipping through the pocketbook, but his hand froze when he got to a certain page. His face went white.
"What's wrong--"
"Nothing... nothing. Hold on, let me read this to you." He cleared his throat. He read me the entire conversation Kyoko had with her father--again with the girl's voice. He looked at me distraught, "This...can't be true, can it?"
"The pocketbook belonged to. Kyoko... It couldn't be anyone else."
"But if this belongs to Kyoko..." He looked at the locker and back at me "...what was it doing in this locker? And what she wrote here completely contradicts what she already told me. She said she hasn't seen her dad since he left when she was little. What does this all mean...!?"
He quickly scanned the remaining pages of the notebook. He must have been looking for something that would prove him wrong about this whole thing. I just watched him go crazy.
He paused and turned to me, I asked him "Found something?"
"I... think so? What is this...? What does it mean? I have no idea... How could this possibly make any sense?"
He allowed me to read myself, it said 'Despair walks among us. And so, we Survive... there's a second 'despair'...'
He allowed me to hold onto the locker pocketbook, most likely wanting to put it in my bag... 'this thing has unlimited storage...'
I plopped down on one of the many chairs as Makoto ran around the room. I daised off a little as Makoto explored. He kept passing me items, one after another and I was so confused.
"Are...we finished here?" I asked as Makoto extended an arm to me. He had the door opened for the two of us.
I grasped it and we headed over to the door. "I'm so confused... the more I see, the less sense it makes. Because of these damn lockers... I mean, they had to belong to the previous students, right? So why am I seeing this...? Why are there things in the lockers that look like they belong to people here?"
"You... ask so many questions--"
"Look, the notebook that seems like it belongs to Hiro... And a pocketbook that seems like it belongs to Kyoko..." Makoto pointed to my handbag, tugging on it a little. I almost fell over when he grabbed it. "There has to be some kind of explanation. But if I want to find that out, I have to keep moving the investigation forward. And I have to believe in everyone."
With that, he held onto my hand again and ran off with me. We ran through the second floor dorms and to the staircase. We stopped right in front of the Monokuma room in the Data Center. He and his wild ideas are going to get the two of us killed.
We jumped a little as Aoi's voice rang out to us. Guess she was here anyways, "Ah, Makoto! Y/N! Are you here to look around, too?"
"We got curious--Is what are you doing here as well?" He asked.
"Yeah. I can't help but wonder about that Monokuma door... So I figured...if all the doors in school had been unlocked, that one should be open too, right!?" He grinned at her explanation. "Although...I couldn't bring myself to open it. Cuz it might explode, right!? And that really sucks. So...you open it!"
We looked at the half and half door, "Okay, so...I guess I'll open it."
"Ah, wait! Lemme take cover first! I don't wanna explode! Okay! Go ahead!"
Hina grabbed my arm, we dove underneath one of the tables.
Makoto hesitated a bit before holding onto the handle. "Alright, here goes nothing'...!"
He threw all his weight into it, but the door opened much easier than we both expected. Makoto almost fell to the ground. There was no explosion, thankfully.
"Whoa! This place is totally sci-fi!" Aoi jumped over Makoto, we watched as she ran quickly around the small room. She turned to me, "Y/N you should go and look for everyone, tell them to come check this out!"
"Why me?"
"I need Makoto as a body shield and you.... Were the least useful in this situation. Don't worry, we'll contact you if someone gets injured!"
I scowled at her, "I'm not a nurse, how many times do i have to tell you--"
"Yeah yeah, you're a florist and you play and eat with dirt" 'Who the fuck told her i ate dirt?!?!'
I sighed and went to find someone--anyone. I ran down the hallway and around the corners, I peered into rooms and different classrooms. I sure hope I remember my way back...
I ran up the stairs to different floors before stopping at the Dojo... nobody really would be in here-right? I opened the door slowly and I felt it close back on me. I huffed out and pushed on the door as hard as I could. It opened with so much force that whatever was behind the door flew out. I tripped over myself and fell right in front of whoever it was.
"G-Geez...you just had too-open the door." I looked up to see Toko sitting criss-crossed on the floor.
"Were you hiding?" I asked.
"No..."
"Why are you here by yourself?"
"....I-It's none of your concern--Now get o-out!" she shouted at me. 'Wow...' I pushed myself off the ground before helping her up as well. I gave her an awkward wave before heading towards the exit.
I held the door and before I left I looked back at her one last time, just to tease "Are you sure you want me to leave?"
"N-No... I mean yes! A-Aurgh! You make me s-so confused...i-i hate you."
"Why do you hate me if I didn't do anything to you?!" I gasped.
"S-Shut up! Leave, or stay! I don't care..." She grumbled before walking back to the trees. The flowers falling around her.
"I just thought maybe you'd found a clue..." I walked slowly next to her, afraid she'll lash out at me.
"Well I h-haven't... I didn't find anything... Not one s-single clue!" She bundled up her hair. "I figured since this place was r-related to the case, it would have to h-have something, right? But there wasn't a-anything out of the ordinary here! Give it b-back... Give me back my precious t-time!"
"C-Calm down, Toko... Why don't we do something else--"
"Don't tell m-me to calm down! Do you have any idea what I-I'm going through right now? When everyone finds o-out, they're gonna call me useless! G-Good for nothing!"
"Nobody's gonna say that." I reached out an arm to put on her shoulder but she shrugged me off.
"Master will! I don't want that! I'm sick of a-always being looked down on! Why w-won't anyone accept me...? Gh...ngaaaAAaAAAahhH!"
She fell to the ground, her head between her hands. I crouched down next to her. "Why...you dont need anyones approval but yourself. Humans will look down at you for anything."
"I-Im not asking you!"
"What if i said i accepted you--"
"I dont n-need your approval! All I need is m-masters!"
I sighed, it was difficult to try and get through to her. "Maybe... it's time to get a new master?"
"A NEW M-M-MASTER?!??!" She looked as if she were going to faint. "Are you out of your mind?!"
"How about we forget masters and shit and focus on... friendship? We're trapped here together, right? If we're gonna be friends, it'd be nice to get to know each other better." I explained.
Toko slowly turned towards me, "What... What'd you just s-say? After that p-part about being trapped... We're gonna be wh-what?"
"Uh...friends?"
"Hehehehehe... Whaddya mean, f-friends!?" she crackled, "You think I'm s-stupid? You're trying to trick me! I've already been h-hurt once before... I'm not gonna l-let it happen again...!"
"Come on, Toko. You've known me for quite a long time now, do you really think I'm like that?" I sighed.
"Yes!... We don't know that much about e-each other..... a-and i havent got to hang out with you a-as much as you do with the others..." She quickly averted her eyes. 'Oh my god.'
"Are... you jealous?"
"No! D-Don't be an idiot... i-i...aaaah! F-Forget i-it!" She screamed at me, sweat started to form.
"Awh! You are jelly!"
"S-shut up! Come on, y-you don't really care about m-me... You don't want to kn-know about me! Even though I know that...!"
"Who said that? I would absolutely love to spend time with you."
She scoffed, "Y-Yeah right, you hang around with C-Chihiro and Mondo so much y-you.... Nevermind."
I guess... I did pay a lot of attention to those two, but I paid attention to a lot of people here! Like Leon and Hifumi and Celestia--i'm only one person but i guess i could have made more of an effort to reach out to her.
"I'm sorry, I should've tried harder--but I'm here if you're willing to talk?"
She flashed me a bemused smile, it suited her face "W-What do you want to know..?"
"It's all up to you, toko..."
"You know why they c-call me the Ultimate Writing Prodigy, right?" She guided me to the ground where we watched the petals fall. Ignoring all the danger around us and just sitting together and relaxing, just like how two teens should.
"I'm pretty sure, you've won all types of prizes and shit."
"C-Cocky are we? Then tell me wh-what I'm good at... Tell m-me what my genre specialty is!" Aw shit... do I even remember? "If you r-really wanna convince me you give a crap, you should at least kn-know that...!"
"Isn't it romance or something?"
"Oh...you a-actually knew?"
"Psh, and you doubt me! Your biggest success was 'So Lingers the Ocean', right?" Toko crossed her arms as I nailed every question. "Everyone says it's your masterpiece. The book was such a hit that fishermen shot to the top of all the 'Hottest Men' polls...right?"
"How did y-you know all that...? There's no way you c-care about me...!"
"I have a lot of free time, Toko... you'll be surprised. I'm telling you, I do! I mean, we're friends, aren't we?"
"Nng...! I'm blind! Your s-straightforward nature blinded me! Hyeeeeeeeehhh!" She tried to run away but I held onto her arm. She struggled a little before giving up. She sighed and only looked me in the eyes.
"You can trust me--"
Before I could continue my sentence, an announcement went off. Both Toko and I looked over at the small screen displaying the bear. "Umm, this is a school announcement... Is everyone working hard? Is your investigation coming along nicely? Well then. Since you're all giving it your best, your generous headmaster will give you a little hint! Puhuhu... For those of you who are interested, please make your way to the gym ASAPossible!"
And with that, the bear disappeared from the monitor. I asked her, "Shall we go?"
Toko only grabbed my arm in silence and we moved cautiously to, where i was assuming, the gym.
