32. Paper Sailboats
Firstly, I loved the blurb of this story. It was really cute, to the point, and elegant. After reading 'A Week in Rome', I had very high expectations of this author, and she did not disappoint.
What I really loved about this story is the culture, and the simplicity of the novel, which both gave the reader a warm, comfortable feeling while reading it. I loved the beautiful way in which Islam is sprinkled in throughout the story, and the gorgeous way that Ada's character has been depicted.
I especially found the part that showed the pronunciation of her name quite lovely, as it is very realistic. A friend of mine enjoyed that too!
However, I did have one concern in the story- timeline plot holes.
According to the story, Ada should be eighteen years old, which is why it makes no sense for her to be in high school. If there is indeed, a reason for this, I would have liked to see it elaborated upon in the story. Additionally, the high school element of the book makes the story slightly cliche. It would have been less of a chick-flick had it taken place in a college setting.
It also would have made sense to have the story set in college given the age at which Ada is being married off. I know that she and Zain have decided to wait until she completes her studies, but no one in this day and age usually starts looking for a groom at eighteen- even in desi families. Especially not when the mom is as cool as Ada's mom seems to be XD
But, apart from that, the story is great so far, and I really loved the simplistic, yet gorgeous writing style that the author has used. I look forward to reading more of this wonderful novel, and if anyone is looking for a book to read on a rainy day, snuggled up in your bed- this is the one you should read.
