17. Crestmont Academy

Firstly, I would like to congratulate the author on her nice cover, blurb, and writing style. They were very good, and made me read the book even though I am not a fan of teen fiction.

I enjoyed the contrast between the two main characters- Asher and Katie- as they were clearly flawed and have a good capacity for development throughout the book. But I was a bit disappointed with how cliche they were.

The arrogant, self-absorbed boy athlete and the kind, clumsy, stuttering girl describes about every romance book on Wattpad. If I could insert an opinion here, it would be that the characters are what makes the book special, and should be very well thought-out and written in such a way that the readers fall in love with each of their flaws.

The main problem here is that the opening chapter itself, though it is written quite well, portrays a character that is selfish, arrogant, and cruel. This adds a sense of negativity to the book and might push away prospective readers.

Of course, the chapter should be kept, but maybe a prologue showing Asher as a kid, discovering his passion for track and field would really capture the attention of readers and increase the appeal of the book.

All in all, though, it was a good effort and can be a very good book if the cliches are avoided.

Final rating: 6/10
