CHAPTER 41

AVERY CHANGED INTO a pair of tight black jeans, a black t-shirt, and a flannel before slipping her white shoes back on and walking out into the hallway.

"Hey," A boy was leaning against the wall opposite of the door, "President Wallace had some business to attend to so I'm taking you to your room. Your people are waiting for you." She nodded, putting her hands in her pockets and following the boy down the hall, "I'm Beckett."

"Avery."

"I know." He smirked down at her, "I was the one in the hazmat suit."

"Thought I recognised you." Avery joked, her face staying neutral. She just wanted to see who made it. She wanted to see if Bellamy made it.

"Beck!" The boy stopped and turned and Avery followed in time to see a young blonde boy skip up to them, "Wow, are you one of the space people they brought in?"

Avery gave him a small smile and nodded, "Yeah."

"That's so cool! I wish I could see the stars. I bet you've seen cool things like meteors and shooting stars!" The little boy exclaimed,

"I find the trees and the forest to be much more exciting." Avery told him,

The boy's smile faltered a little, "I haven't seen those either."

"Mason, you're supposed to be back at our room." Beckett stated,

The boy shrugged, "I was on my way when I saw you."

Beckett patted his head, "Go on. I'll see you in a bit."

Mason nodded before walking off, "Bye, Avery. It was nice to meet you!"

The two continued down the hall, "So, you haven't been outside these walls?" Avery asked after a few moments of silence,

"Our ancestors have been sealed away in here for decades. We haven't been exposed and adapted to the radiation like your people has. That's why you needed to be quarantined. To ensure we'd be okay." Beckett told her.

Avery hummed, "So we have something in common. Stuck in a hunk of metal for 97 years."

Becket smirked, "yeah, guess so. Difference is that you guys were able to make it back. Us, we have some catching up to do."

"How were you guys able to get to our camp then?"

"We have soldiers that go through a treatment. That plus the hazmat suits. They protect us from the radiation." He answered,

Beckett motioned to a large door, "Your people are in there. Someone will be in shortly to show you around."

Avery nodded, "Thank you." She told him before walking through the doors.

"Avery!" The first ones to run up to her was Jasper and Monty.

The two boys wrapped her arms around her and she did the same, "Monty, have you been here the whole time?"

He nodded, "I was the one who told them about our camp."

Avery pulled away and looked around, "Bellamy? Clarke?" She questioned,

"If they're here, they haven't come through yet."

"48." Avery whispered, "They said only 48 of us made it."

The others came up to hug her. She gave them all big smiles. As glad as she was to see that they made it, she needed to see someone else more.

She needed Bellamy.

A woman with a clipboard came in, "Hello, everyone. I'm Keenan. Now, if you all would like to follow me, I'll give you a tour."

Avery kept her arms wound through Monty's and Jasper's as they were led down a corridor. She brought them all into a large dining hall, where the tables were being set with silverwear and plates. Avery hadn't seen anything so elegant in all her life.

"Welcome to Mount Weather." Keenan stated, handing out packets to everyone. It reminded Avery of school almost, "Your packet contains everything you need to know about Mount Weather, which I promise is not as confusing as the map on page one makes it up to look."

Avery looked through, trying to find the exit. But there wasn't one. Does that mean they're not allowed to leave?

"You came from level 3, which houses our medical facility." Keenan began again.

The door opened from behind them and Avery looked up to see a blonde girl. "Clarke!" Avery gave her packet to Jasper before running up to her and hugging the blonde, "Oh, thank god."

Clarke smiled and moved to hug Monty and Jasper, "Finn and Bellamy?" She asked, looking at the three,

Avery paused. She had no idea.

"Clarke, they... they didn't make it." Jasper answered,

Avery shook her head, "We don't know that."

"What about Raven?" Clarke asked,

"Haven't seen her." Avery whispered,

Keenan came over and handed her a packet, "Welcome, Clarke. If you have any questions, I'm Keenan."

Avery squeezed Clarke's shoulder, "We'll find out what happened to them."
