Chapter 3

For the second time in her life, Turtlepaw was incapable of speaking. Before her stretched a vast expanse of rushing, foam tipped water, the surface disturbed by gray stones poking out from underneath.
Turtlepaw glanced over at Wavepaw. Her sister's grey striped pelt was fluffed up, water droplets clinging to the ends of her kit soft fur. Her green eyes were as round as moons.
All too soon, they were done viewing the territory for that day. Turtlepaw was nearly asleep on her paws as she plodded to the fresh kill pile and picked up a shrew. Wavepaw, however, seemed full of energy.
"That was so great!" She gushed, padding over to sit beside Turtlepaw. She nodded in agreement, her mouth full. Wavepaw noticed the tired look on her sisters face. "Ready to go pick out our nests?" At the thought of nests, Turtlepaw nearly fell asleep right there. "So, yes then?" Turtlepaw nodded, and they padded over to the apprentice's den.
Choosing two empty smelling nests, the littermates curled up and promptly fell asleep.
