Chapter 23 (Jack's POV)

Days passed like this. Hour after hour, sitting here, heart monitor beating at a normal pace, watching Mark.

He hadn't shown any sign of waking up.

I on the other hand had shown a lot of affection towards him.

I've fallen for him now, more than ever before.

Sad thing is, when I'm forced to go back to Ireland, I can't talk to Mark. I can't talk to him about stuff that's going on.

I'm too nervous to do that.

It was morning, the sun was beating down on my face, and same as normal. No sign of him waking up.

I was hungry, I hadn't eaten much in days. So I carefully go down to the hospital cafeteria and order some food.

Man it felt good at have somewhat of a full meal again.

After eating, I go back up to Mark's room and just kinda slowly pace around in one spot.

Then, as if it was planned out, I hear movement behind me.

I quickly shoot my body around and look at Mark, who had shifted a little bit.

"Mark?" I say as I start to walk over. "M-Mark?"

I reach my hand out to touch his arm, but his eyes start to open, which makes me jolt my hand back.

"MARK!!!" I scream as his eyes were fully open.

He weakly smiles.

"Y-you're finally awake." I say, tears starting to form.

He then tries to say something, but all that came out was a low, barely audible noise.

Doctor Scott then walks into the room. "What do we have here?" He smiles.

"Mark! H-he's awake!" I reply.

"That's great, now I do have some news." He says.

"Oh no... What's that?" I ask.

"He won't be able to talk for about 2 weeks." He replies.

"Huh? What?!" I stutter.

"He won't be able to speak for 2 weeks, but after the first week he should be starting to regain some of his voice." He explains.

"O-okay... I understand." I reply.

"Cool. Now, we have to run a few more tests, and then you should be good to go." He smiles.

I look back at Mark, who was smiling as well as me.

~Time skip~

"Okay! Mark, you are free to go!" Doctor Scott smiles as he comes into the room.

"YES! Mark! You're finally free!" I laugh.

Of course, him being in the state that he was in, couldn't say anything. So he just smiled.

Mark got unhooked from the machines and I helped him stand up.

I have him a hug, and he did the same. "I missed you..." I whisper.

"Oh and, make sure you keep that bandage on your wrist dry, and try to replace it every few days." Doctor Scott informs.

Mark nods in reply.

"Okay so, you get your stuff packed up and come down to reception when you're ready." Doctor Scott says.

"Alright." I reply.

He smiles and leaves the room, and I'm left standing in the middle of the room with Mark.

"Would you like me to help you pack your stuff?" I ask.

He nods in reply.
