Chapter 14: Frank "the bank" Bowers

Maxine walks past me wielding the last remains of her small fortune. There's no doubt that she'll be able to turn every piece of gold into 10 times it's worth. As hard as it is to admit, the lady is smart; and good-looking.
I feel displeased with her absence, which is weird since I couldn't stand her. Ever since that talk on the balcony my opinions on her have completly changed.
Not only did she marry Nathan solely for the purpose of saving her father, she brought her own life in danger to do so too. I called her selfish multiple times but I now see she's selfless. Everything she has done until now had a purpose; and that purpose is to bring the Prescott family down.

It's odd that we share a common goal but in the end I think a lot of people would love to see their empire crumble.
"Are you going to be okay out there. All by yourself. Nassau isn't the most friendly place for a woman. You could stay with us if you'd like."
Maxine's lips curl into a somewhat sinister smile.
"Pirates aren't my favorite company but your crew is respectful towards women, which surprised me. As much as I'd love to be at sea I'll have to decline your offer captain. I have a meeting to attend."
"With who, if I may ask?"
"Frank Bowers."

Bowers...
He was an old trustee of my father. The man knows how to make big amounts of money in troubled times.
Owing him usually ends with your head being eaten by sharks. Or so the folkslore tell. I don't believe Frank is such a guy. But I'm sure one of his goons is capable of murder not to speak of that filthy mutt he calls a dog.
Though Frank himself is cleaner than the underwear of a virgin. I see him more as a very intimidating business partner. One you don't want to cross.
"That's a name no-one drops lightly. How did you meet him?"

I realize that I'm looking for a reason to join her. I don't have any business with 'The Bank' but he always has some special offers or contracts that might be worth my time. After all I'm stuck on Nassau until I find someone that can hit the Prescott's with the evidence Maxine gave me.

"He came to me actually. Nicely dressed and good manners. Not something I expected from an island full of degenerates. If you don't mind I really have to go."
She takes one of her bags and before she can protest I pick up the other.
"I haven't spoken to my good friend Frank in a while. I'll join you."
She gives me a confused yet thankful glare. "Lead the way miss Caulfield"

Whilst on our way to meet Frank 'the bank' Bowers, Maxine and I seem to be forging some kind of friendship.
If only my father could see me now, working together with a member of the Prescott heir. Trying to break them apart from the inside with information so incriminating, even the loyalest of servants would want to decapitate them.
Surprisingly there's no dirt on Nathan's sister. She's always kind of been the lesser interesting child of the royal family. Not because she's less horrible, there's simply nothing we know about her besides how beautiful she is. We can all agree that their personalities are downright awful but some would murder for their beauty.
The conversation, Maxine and I were having, abruptly comes to an end when a boy, not older than 18, is thrown onto the streets right into a pile of horse shit.
"Come here again and the next time your head will meet the sharks of the pacific" The big brute, that just flung the boy into the dung, threatens.
He locks eyes with me and puts on a smile that only lasts a short second.
"Captain Price." He tips his hat.
"Jonathan, how are the kids?"
Maxine stares at Jonathan with wide eyes. I was as amazed as she was the first time I met him. The man is a giant, a good looking one, and that by itself was a very rare combination. 6' 5 feet tall and arms the size of a thick wooden post. This English lad was not the type of man you'd want to encounter during a fight. Even if you could use a sword, he'd probably eat it or use it as a toothpick.
"They're growing fast. Strong little buggers too, especially the boy. I suppose you're not just here to catch up."
"No she's not. We've got important business with your boss Frank. He invited me." Maxine tries her best not to look too intimidated by Jonathan's lenght and muscular appearance.
He turns to look her in the eyes and I could feel her jaw clenching.
"You're the princess. Go on in he's been waiting for you."
Without making a remark, about being called a princess, Maxine treads carefully into Frank's office; or as I like to call it, the dog house.

If I was a traveler and this was the first building I'd enter, I'd be disappointed about the rest of Nassau.
The walls are decorated with paintings created by the most famous of artists. There's a world map, one that brilliantly illustrates the sees and it's secrets, hanging behind Frank. And it's hard not to mention his personal portret displaying him and his mutt Pompidou that proudly hangs amongst other great individuals. Speaking of the mutt, it sleeps peacefully in the corner of the room. It's jaw spread wide open showing it's sharp teeth. I'm no fan of his little helper but he has control over it and it seems to truly love him.
It's no secret that Frank thinks highly of himself. He doesn't boast in public, but his office is one big shrine to himself.
"Well, well, well. Look what we have here. The one and only Chloe Price."
Ignoring the sarcastic tone I raise my arms in praise.
"It's nice to see you again Frank."
I reply with an equal amount of sarcasm.
As I walk closer I see that Frank has a few new facial features.
His beard grew and his left ear is missing. Besides those two obvious changes, his right hand is wrapped in blood stained bandages.
"What happend Frank?" I ask staring at his hand. "Got into a fight with your dog?"
He scoffs "Still funny."
He stares intensely at me but there's a flicker in his eyes that let's me know that we're just joking around. "Has no one tried to cut your tongue out yet?"
He says. I simply shrug and sit down into one of the wooden chairs that stands in front of his desk. A desk he stole from an English politician that used to call the shots in Nassau. It seems that whoever is behind that desk is the boss, and currently Frank is that big boss.
Maxine doesn't sit down, instead she puts her chest full of juwels, and other valuable items, on the desk. Blocking Frank's sight from mine.
"I was called here to discuss business and not to be a third wheel to whatever the hell you two are doing with each other."
I can't see him but I know Frank just raised his eyebrow. Jonathan might have intimidated lady Maxine but Frank doesn't, that much is clear.
This might become the most interesting meeting I ever get to be a part of. Two vibrant personalities clashing in the dog house. A verbal fight anyone would like to listen in to.
