Chapter 26
Writer's POV
Both the siblings continued glaring at each other while Darsh and Reena turned spectators. All of them sat together and remained silent as Nidhi and Nithin continued their game of not blinking at each other.
Before settling down at the table Nithin was very furious with her, even with Darsh. Darsh is aware of Nithin's envy of him, but he expected a better bond after all the family commitments that happened. Even now, Darsh can feel Nithin's attention on him even when his eyes are on his sister.
As serious as the situation is, Nidhi's chilled-out attitude is making him amused.
"I think this is a good time for us to spend together," Reena spoke out, trying to break the intense ice among them.
"Yeah. Same feeling," said Nidhi, eyeing her brother, who is not interested in the conversation or being here.
"But one doesn't feel the same way," Darsh and Reena understood whom Nidhi was referring to but said nothing.
"Aren't you talking too much?" Nithin's voice came out grim.
"And you aren't talking at all brother. Scared that I will tell Dad?" Mocked Nidhi.
"That you should be. Dad will believe me not you," smirked Nithin as he hit her weakness. However, he has no plans to reveal anything to their dad as he has to be cautious to hide his relationship, too.
Nidhi's face fell at that remark. That is a weak spot for her and Nithin knowingly hit her weakness. She fisted her palm under the table to control her expression and not give Nithin any victory.
Darsh noticed how her face fell and is fisting her hand. Scooting closer to her he held her fisted palm gently to ease her discomfort.
"Maybe he will believe me as well, Nithin. It will be better for us to not go till that point," Darsh spoke out, keeping eye to eye contact and for the first time after meeting them.
The smirk vanished from Nithin's face and his gaze shifted from Nidhi to Darsh. Fury filled him as he didn't like third-person intervention between them siblings, even forgetting that he is family already.
"You don't have to tell me that. Don't get involved between me and my sister," slamming the table, Nithin left them alone. Reena called him to stop him but he didn't care about them and left the place.
"I guess I shouldn't have spoken like that," Darsh spoke after Nithin left. He should have kept his calm, but seeing Nidhi's gloomy face, he just couldn't sit still. And now even Reena's face fell because of his behaviour with Nithin.
"It's ok. We are always like this," Nidhi assured him held his hand more tightly and looked at him with a happy smile. "Thanks for taking my side."
It's been a long time since someone stood for her in support apart from her grandma. Though it is not something new between Nithin and her, it felt so nice to have someone on your back.
"I wonder how you fell in love with him!" Nidhi exclaimed looking at Reena. Reena was visibly sad with the way Nithin behaved now. She gave a small smile to Nidhi, not expressing much.
"I'll go check with him once. Excuse me," Reena excused herself and went in the way Nithin left.
"Will things be ok at home?" Darsh asked feeling concerned.
"Yeah. He overreacts at times but will not tell anyone. We will be at opposite ends for some time. That's normal for us."
Darsh nodded and they both continued having small chats. In the meantime, Nidhi messaged Ravali not to come, though she didn't tell her what had happened.
As time passed they both wandered in the mall and even searched where Nithin and Reena went but couldn't find them. They thought they might have left and Nidhi decided to leave to home
"How will you go home? Shall I drop you?" Darsh asked as she was alone now.
"Will book auto or cab. It's ok, you too, go home," responded Nidhi as they walked to the exit gate of the mall.
There she saw a car similar to theirs, and when she approached a bit closer, it was their car only, and Nithin was leaning on the other side, probably waiting for her. There is no sight of Reena indicating she might have left the place. Nidhi walked forward and stood before him with Darsh beside her, making Nithin aware of their presence.
"Shall we go home if your wanderings are over?" Nithin sneered.
"Nithin! Please," Nidhi whined. She was embarrassed enough today and wanted to call it out. Not wanting to talk more and fight more she ignored him.
"Bye. Let's meet officially next time without any fear," Nidhi spoke to Darsh, who in turn chuckled out loud and nodded. He opened the door for her and bid her adieu.
"Darsh!" Nithin called him out. Darsh stilled in front of him and anticipated some serious talk because of his words earlier.
Nithin looked back to see Nidhi staring at them, but the car glasses were pulled up so that she would not listen to their conversation.
"I'll be honest with you. I don't like you, Darsh. You are a very suspicious person and I don't feel you are worthy enough to be with my sister. Even your family is very sceptical.
I even told my dad the same, but as you said, he trusts you well enough to give my sister to you. Despite all this, I hope my sister will be happy and she is treated well." Nithin conveyed his intention clearly and turned around to leave but stopped in mid again,
"And one more thing, don't interfere between me and my sister again. We will sort our things on our own."
Finally completing his words, he entered his car, leaving Darsh rooted in his place. Though there is no lie in Nithin's words, it hurts him so much that he does not believe him enough to be worthy of his sister.
Being deep in thoughts a loud knock pulled him out of his thoughts, as he raised his gaze to find Nidhi knocking the car glass. She raised her brows and mouthed what they talked about. Before Darsh could react, the car moved forward, and to make her feel at ease, Darsh instantly pulled up a huge smile and ran after the car to be visible to her.
Pulling his thumbs up, he assured her that all was fine as she disappeared from view. She is all I need and I have to prove my worth only to her, not to everyone, determined Darsh.
To be worthy of her he is ready to face everything.
