Chapter 16
Nidhi POV:
Hell, broke loose at home when I again rejected another boy. It erupted only with knowing half of the truth. I wonder what my parents will say if they got to know about the indirect threats, I have given to them.
By God's grace, that person didn't say anything to my parents or unless my Dad has still not brought it over, I am getting ratted out over rejecting him.
Even though I didn't back off in the fight, I raised my voice over my dad's choice. For that brief moment, I felt like we are not father and daughter but some dictators of two states.
Finally, Grandma intervened and broke some peace between us. Paying no heed to anything else I went to my room and closed my door with a loud thud. I called Ravali and shared all my agony with her and she was compelled to listen to me. Within some time, my anger dissipated, and I ended my call relieving her and laid down on my bed.
That's when I self-reflected on my behaviour today. I guess most of the time, I was at fault. And the situation I was put into by the opposite person wasn't helpful either.
Do I have to apologize to Dr Sushant?
Not really. He isn't my type and if I say sorry or something he might think he is correct and all. And why talk to him again?
Apologize to Dad?
Nah. My ego hurts. And it's not the first time that we fought this way. And never for once did either of us apologized to each other and continued with our lives further. But I guess he wants me to apologize and even I wait for the same.
There was a time I apologized to him so badly, but he didn't care for me. Then came a breaking point where I started to not care about him. Since then, it is like this.
Sighing I closed my eyes and hoped I could get some sleep to relax myself. Again, thoughts of the whole day came flashing.
That's when something struck me. Did I pay the bill for my drink at the café? Actually, did Sushant pay for his drink before leaving that quickly?
I woke up with a jerk and tried to remember what happened at the café. I don't think I paid my share as I left the place annoyed because of the stranger boy.
"Aiyo," I muttered and slapped my forehead realizing my mistake. I should pay him back.
I googled the café to get any phone number so that I can first enquire regarding the bill. But will they remember me? And even if they do, they will think of me as a thief or something who ran away without paying the bill.
I decided to directly go to the café again rather than calling them again. I combed my hair again and took my belongings and went out of my room only to hear my father talking loudly.
From upstairs I peeped in a little before going down and tried to hear more clearly.
"He is a good match too. Let me ask him first," said my father. A new match already! I closed my eyes in frustration. Why I agreed to marriage?
"What about his background? Family? And any assets and properties in his name?" asked my mother this time.
Wow. Seriously, this is the problem with them. They are going after all these materialistic things but not the person's character, who is he, how is he. Nothing.
"Will do it no time. And about family, it's only his mother and brother. Recently he purchased a new car and heard he bought a flat too. But I will confirm everything and then we will decide."
"Start a matrimony business, Dad," I muttered slowly.
I stayed still a few more minutes waiting for them to converse more but I heard nothing. That's when I went down and the atmosphere was silent again. Dad was reading the newspaper with such a calm face as though some time ago he didn't behave like a Hitler. Maa was sitting across from him and drinking her juice. Nithin also sat down with them but he looked a bit serious.
As it is Sunday they stayed at home or else they would have already left to work. Seeing me there only Maa noticed my presence and remaining both acted oblivious to my presence.
I informed them I am going out and will be back soon. Maa asked me to have lunch and leave but I don't have any appetite so I left saying I will eat after some time.
Soon enough I reached the café and I approached a waiter. I informed them about the items I had and regarding the bill, so he instantly recognized me and he said that he tried calling me and when I left without turning back another person paid my bill.
I was taken aback by that revelation. Who is such a good person to pay another's bill? I asked the waiter who it was and he said it was the boy who talked with me when I left.
God! How will I find him now to pay back his money?
I further asked the waiter if that boy comes here frequently but he said he is not sure about it. Sighing I left the place and just hoped I might meet him again.
I returned home facing another complex day.
Few More Days Later.
Days passed so quickly that again I am waiting in a café for the supposed-to-be groom to come and talk to me.
Well, I had the least hope and interest today. So bad that I didn't even care to ask the name of this person, neither I knew how he looks. I hope he knows me and will approach me directly.
I have reached on time and was waiting for this Stranger to come for the past 15 minutes but there was no sign of him. I ordered a hot chocolate for myself and decided to wait for few more minutes before calling Nithin to know whether that person will come or not.
"Hi," I turned behind as soon as I heard someone greet me. I was taken aback a bit to see that person so suddenly after a long time.
"Darsh? Hi," I replied and stared at him for a good one minute. Unlike in some boring white coat and shirt, he was wearing a nice white striped shirt with blue jeans, looking quite handsome and young too. And he rather seemed very much happy judging by the smile on his face.
He walked forward and sat across me and that made my brows scrunch. Why he sat there?
"Hope you are doing well," he said after a minute of silence. I tried to smile so that I won't be impolite to me.
"Yeah. How are you? And what are you doing here?" I asked him normally to continue the conversation. I hope that the prospective groom won't mind seeing the prospective bride talking with someone else.
But hearing my question his smile dropped and an expression of disbelief crawled upon his face. That expression of his made my smile drop as well. Did I offend him in any way?
"I came here because I am the person who is supposed to meet you today."
"What? I am on a date set up by my father to meet the prospective groom......."
No words came out of my mouth as my throat dried up with me realizing what is happening at that instance.
Groom? Would be? Date? Doctor? Darsh?
"You..."
"I am the Prospective Groom for you to meet today," he said with an uncertain tone, fidgeting his fingers together while my eyes widened out and my mouth was not able to close, I became a statue altogether.
