Chapter 1

Author's POV:

"There is huge commotion between the locals and the police officers. The locals are protesting the arrival of MLAs in the town for offering condolences to the children who were given rotten food in the government school because of which more than 50 children were hospitalized. The parents want the perpetrators to be brought to justice. Till then there will not be any kind of truce.

Will give more updates soon. Stay tuned."

Nidhi listened to her video again as she kept munching on her small snack, a Naturo mango bar. Because that is the only thing she has in her bag.

Currently, she is still at the site, outside the hospital, in a car. It's past 6 pm and the weather is not being kind to her either. And so is her news agency.

She and her partner, Cameraman Varun came here by 1 pm as soon as the news reached them. The village is an hour away from the city so the journey already made them exhausted. The good part is they were one of the 1st reporters who reached the site and they got access to cover the situation and interview the parents and doctors.

Soon other reporters, police and local authorities flooded the place, followed by MLA's entry and riots. And they are stuck in the place as their media agency still wants them to wait on the spot and report if in case any other controversy stirs up or any kind of truce happens.  But as of now, nothing has happened yet.

So they were stranded in an unknown place without proper food, water and restroom facilities. They both are staring outside the window as the talks are being gone on between the doctors and authorities. As of now, all the children are doing well without any casualties. The reason for the sudden commotion was because of the chemical injections given to the vegetables.

"Guess we have to cover about these harmful practices surrounding eating stuff and all. Everything is being Adulterated," Nidhi conveyed her thought to Varun, who was resting their hands on the steering wheel and laying his head on them.

"Yeah. I wonder how good this mango jelly is, right?" he snickered taking another bite of the bar.

Nidhi's eyes closed in exasperation. She is trying her best to burn time and her friend is not showing any interest either.

A loud shrill escaped Nidhi's mouth as she passed her fingers through her hair. After her, a scream escaped from Varun's mouth because of the slap he received on his shoulder.

"What's wrong with you?" asked Varun, trying to ease the pain.

"Don't act too smart ok. Don't spoil my last ounce of interest left," replied Nidhi pointing her finger at him.

"Ohhh really. Then listen to me out. I don't have a minute part of that ounce of your interest. So leave me alone."

Saying so he fell flat on his seat and closed his eyes. Nidhi didn't know what more to say. She knew Varun from her initial days of work. She knew that he is doing this job for his namesake. Being an engineering graduate he joined this job because he couldn't get one in his field of study.

But that's not the case with Nidhi. Working with media is her media. She was always glued to the TV, Anchors who read the news and grill the attendees with questions. And she wanted to be on screen like a news anchor who tells the news to viewers, not the reporter who reports the news to the channel.

Nidhi's phone buzzed as the screen displayed the name Ravali. Ravali is another friend and colleague who is working with her in the same office but joined later than her.

"Ravali, thanks for calling me. Your boyfriend dozed off here in the car only leaving me to die alone," Nidhi complained gazing at Varun. She tried to gain Varun's attention by talking too loudly but he already fled to his dreamland.

"I would have been shocked had he been awake till now," laughed Ravali. Both Ravali and Varun started dating from the time she joined the organization. It was like love at first sight for both of them. And eventually, she became our friend and their relationship progressed as time passed.

"Yeah. So what are you doing? Any new news?" Nidhi implored, getting back to work.

"Yeah. A murder case."

"Wow. Is it a sensation?" Nidhi asked getting all excited. As evil as it might sound, violence attracts Nidhi. Not in any bloodthirst manner but the TRP will shoot up, they get to know the psychology of the murderer, the reason and the bonus. And not to forget the reportage one can provide for viewers.

"Not really. Wife killed husband," replied Ravali tediously.

"Ohh. What's the reason?"

"Well, he flirted with another woman in front of her which led to a heated argument and his ultimate demise."

"Goodness. Only for that?" A gasp left Nidhi's mouth listening to this. Well, this is not something new. Nowadays people are killing other humans for even more silly reasons.

"Well, that's what the police revealed as of now and I am outside the Police station to know more. Let's see what happens to the woman," replied Ravali.

And they talked for some more time before they continued doing their work. Followed by the police coming out in front of the hospital and issuing a detailed statement regarding the incident that happened and the sequence that followed.

Nidhi and Varun went out as soon as they came out and recorded all their statements and Nidhi asked a few questions to them as well.

And finally, the children became well and the authorities proclaimed to take strict action against the people behind the incident. But one should wonder had punishments been strict then would people even think of doing evil?

No. That's when freedom is misused and laws and punishments were sidelined.

The day came to an end and Nidhi and Varun got their energy back as they can finally move back to the town. And their channel was content with the work done by them.

But all their happiness came down crashing when their vehicle didn't start. Varun kept on trying to make the vehicle run while a set of eyes kept praying for the car to work and they make it home.

"Nidhi....." Varun called her name and said, "car is not working."

Nidhi slumped down in her seat and closed her eyes in frustration. Only tears were missing in her eyes at that moment.

Clearly, luck was not in their hands that day.

Along with the introduction of the Male lead.

Hope you are excited.

How is the cover? Do tell me about it as well.

And I am saying this in advance I don't know much neither about journalism nor about medical science. So if I write anything related to that department in future chapters which doesn't make sense then do forgive me and correct me.

Please do Vote, Comment and Share the story if you like it. It helps in encouraging me to write more faster.

Thank you.
