Five midges cat cradle air,
strung together,
they seem,
moving sequentially.

One skydives downwind, right,
others compensatory swerve to fit
the patterning
as if five fingers spread suddenly,
relinquishing string
to other hand.

Beyond,
bird feeder stands sentry
on seven foot post,
rectangular framing apple limbs.

Irresistibly, it calls to mind Nolan's Ned*,
small work to conjure cat cradling puppeteer
associated maverick irreverence
of that larrikin icon.
