Changing the Future
It was time for another check-up with Izuku. His blood should have replenished by now.
He hasn't seen Eri for two months.
He cried the first week apologizing over and over again. He begged for forgiveness but none came.
The second week he banged against the doors.
For the next six weeks, he sat quietly on his bed. He ate the bare minimum and barely moved. It got to the point were Overhaul made someone force-feed him.
He begged the people who made him eat. He begged for Eri.
He should have known better. When he lost control there will always be punishments. The only good thing about the situation was Overhaul. He can stop Izuku. He is why Izuku hasn't killed more. Overhaul is the only reason Izuku can live.
But Izuku knew this wasn't the only place for Eri. He had seen her quirk. She was no monster. There could be other places for her. Her quirk was a blessing and he made sure to tell her that every time.
It was him who truly had no place. He had killed so many. Without Overhaul, he is better off dead.
~ ~ ~
Izuku's head moved up when he heard his door being pushed open.
"Izuku," Overhaul spoke, he walked over to him, "I have come to the conclusion that your punishment is over."
As he was speaking. The little girl Eri popped her head in.
As Izuku's green mass of hair didn't fit into this white world everything about the little girl did. Her white hair down to her pale skin. Her hair was of course not pure white it was more of a shade of grey. The only fire in her was her dazzling red eyes. Just like Izuku's hair, her eyes stood out.
Eri squealed Izuku's name running over to him.
"Izuku-chan! Izuku-chan I am so happy!"
She hugged his legs standing on her tip topes trying to get him to hug her.
Izuku looked at Overhaul.
At that moment Overhaul had a glimmer of victory in his eyes. The boy asked permission to hug Eri. Two years with the little girl won't make up for seven years alone. She was an award and he knew it.
"Izuku-chan, Izu whats wrong? We are together again," Eri said hugging him harder.
With a slight node from Overhaul Izuku engulfed Eri in a hug. He bent down picking her up. He had her in his arms and they hugged. His arms started to shake as Eri's weight was too much for him. He tried to ignore it and hold her longer but he couldn't.
He whispered in her ear as he set her down, "I missed you so much."
His whispering never escaped Overhaul as he said, "Well that's good you both have another check-up. This time..."
Overhaul messed with his white gloves. They saw his wrist when the gloves slide down. They both stilled not moving.
Overhaul snapped his fingers and on cue, both of them took to his sides. Izuku on the right Eri left.
They walked down to the laboratory while Overhaul talked about Eri.
"It was Eri who help me decide to shorten your punishment. You see, we went on a little adventure outside."
Izuku was surprised he was never allowed outside but he didn't interrupt.
"We had an incident where a couple of idiots bumped into her. Eri was wonderful as the idiots asked her questions. She didn't answer any of them and she came running right back."
Izuku figured out the real story. The Idiots were heroes and she came back because he was here.
It was his fault.
Everything is his fault.
He just needs to die.
The guilt inside him was almost too much to bear. She could have run. She could have gotten out of there but she didn't. She came back for him.
It's why he didn't spend another month without her. It was because she stayed for him. Overhaul was rewarding her by using him. In the same way, he would reward him with her.
Izuku held in his tears as he walked into the laboratory. She was too young to understand. She should have left. She can go anywhere she wants, her quirk is a blessing!
He on the other hand cannot. It didn't matter how he analyzed it. He was a plague to this world. The only place he could be quarantined was here.
Even if the heroes come and save Eri he couldn't go with them. This was his place in life.
He sat still on the medical bed in the laboratory. His check-up started normally. A man in white came over to him. They injected him with a needle and started drawing blood. More people in white bustled around. One took Eri to the bed next to his, doing the same thing to her. After the normal stuff, everyone left except Overhaul and the main doctor.
"Overhaul. I did an extra appraisal on Izuku." The doctor said.
He was a short old man. The only thing that could accurately describe him is the attributes of a mouse. Even though a medical mask you could see his little wisps of hair poking out like whiskers.
"Is it as we predicted?" Overhaul asked.
Izuku was in-between the two. This was something new. He shrugged it off knowing the pain will come even if he resisted. There was no point in listening if the outcome is always the same.
"Yes, it is. I would say his quirk has quadrupled in power from two years ago. There is no reason why this should have happened. It is too fast." He clicked on the computer screen pulling up stats. "See this," he pointed, "this is incredible. Our product with the right ingredients can now be four times as effective. Also, the other drug is no longer in beta. It works."
Overhaul was smiling underneath his doctor's mask. Not like the doctor's mask, the doctor was wearing. His was shaped like a bird's beak. The ones that were used in the past for plagues. Even though he wore a mask it didn't muffle his voice when he spoke.
"I must say good work. Let's get these new products out there. "
He went to continue but felt the air pressure change. Both men looked at the children. They both were laying there as too much blood was being drawn from them.
The pressure change wasn't from either kid.
The kids lay there as their pupils grew wider from the blood loss. Both docile lost in their own world.
The lights barely fixed two months ago flickered as the room trembled.
"Doctor take the blood. I will take the kids."
The Doctor ripped the needles out of the kids and put all the blood they gathered into a portable cooler.
The kids too dazed to do anything were slung over overhauls shoulder. Overhaul ran faster than you would ever think.
He was running down the hall to the hidden emergency exit. Not even halfway there the ceiling above them crashed down.
"I FOUND HER!!!"
"WE FOUND HER!"
Voices were screaming from the new hole in the ceiling leading up to the streets.
"Lemillion! Get the girl."
Overhaul reached out and grabbed Eri who had been knocked off of him when the ceiling collapsed.
Two of Overhaul's men had found him and were fighting against the two heroes.
Everything was fine. The heroes were outnumbered, and they didn't control the drugs. Every one of Overhaul's men had a case of the drug. They had been instructed to use beta drug two. No one was leaving with their quirk.
It was game over for these Heroes.
"Nighteye!" The younger hero, Lemillion, yelled.
"I've seen it! We will win!" Nighteye responded.
The two heroes both kicked the men attacking them sending them flying.
More heroes showed up finishing the two men.
All the heroes gathered around Overhaul and Eri. Overhaul took his right glove off and punched the ground. The ground convulsed and surged upward caring the two.
"IZUKU! Where are you!" Overhaul yelled.
When the ceiling collapsed both kids were knocked off of Overhaul. He only found Eri.
"Eri, do you see him?"
Eri was hugging Overhaul's leg as they both frantically looked around for Izuku. Overhaul started shaping the ground into spicks sending them towards the heroes.
"Izuku-chan!"
Everything was in chaos. It was too much for one person to keep track of. The Heroes are desperately trying to reach Eri. Overhaul is screaming trying to keep everything away from them; trying to find Izuku.
But it wasn't the heroes or Overhaul who saw the green-haired kid. It was Eri who saw him more like the tuff of his green hair under the collapsed rubble from the ceiling. His green hair wasn't the only thing she saw. Red. There was red. She couldn't see his body or his face, but the hair that she could see was barely green.
"IZU!" Eri yelled.
"Where is he!" Overhaul yelled at her. He could hear in her voice, that she found him.
Overhaul had raised himself and Eri off of the ground so their viewpoint was better.
From the view of the heroes, the two were standing on top of a huge tower that overhaul had changed the ground to make. This huge Earth mound was covered in spikes.
Before Eri pointed Izuku out Overhaul spotted him. This time he didn't scream his name he hissed it. The hiss passed through the chaos like a knife. There was a palpable line connecting the glare of his eye's on the boy.
Overhaul placed his hand on the ground shifting the rubble off Izuku. The boy was barely conscious. His arms had been pinned and his head had taken a blow; blood mixing into his hair.
At this point, the sole focus was on Izuku. The previous chaos was gone as the boy forced himself to his feet.
"Izuku, come here now." Overhaul shrieked as he placed his hand on Eri.
"I don't understand!" Nighteye yelled, "How could this be happening? It's not possible."
The other heroes looked at Nighteye as Lemillion held him in his arms. The man was bleeding to death from a spike that had hit him.
Lemillion was weak, as any hero's worst nightmare had happened to him. During the chaos, one of Overhaul's men shot him with the drug. His quirk was gone.
One useless hero held his dying friend as both looked at Izuku in anguish.
Both didn't care to look at the other hero who started talking, "Nighteye, Lemillion both of you said there was only one kid. Nighteye you've looked into the future how was he not in it?"
"I don't know." Nighteye couldn't tell if he was hallucinating from blood loss making his brain deceive him.
"Sir," Lemillion said never looking down at Nigheye, "are you saying this boy has changed the future?"
Nighteye's eyes glazed over and his breathing became shallow.
"ERI!" Lemillion yelled, "Is Izuku why you won't come to us? We will save him too! You both can be safe! Please trust us!"
As if a switch had been flipped, not in Eri, in Izuku the boy took a step away from the tower toward the heroes.
In a quiet voice that might not have reached Eri, Izuku spoke, "Eri, they can help you."
That was all it took for a six-year-olds heart to completely trust her brother. Overhaul didn't hear Izuku's voice so he wasn't able to react in time when she sunk her teeth into his hand jumping off the ledge.
There was no way Izuku could have caught her. He was too weak, but he was not dumb. He had seen the hero in black. He saw him avoid the spikes with the fabric he had; without a doubt, he would catch her.
As the man held Eri, Izuku watched all the Heroes.
They started to creep closer to him. He backed up. If they tried to get him they would die. The only place he belonged was with his father.
He could feel the ground trembling from Overhaul's anger. The tower he made crumbling.
Up until now Eri and Izuku had not seen the hero broken and bleeding to death. Izuku view had been blocked by spikes, Eri's from Overhauls. Simultaneously both of their eyes landed on Nighteye.
There was a pool of blood around him. Lemillion was covered in it.
But It wasn't just Nighteye, more heroes had arrived all broken with injuries that could never heal.
It was too much for a six-year-old.
Tears rolled down her face as she screamed in pain. She snapped her quirk activating.
Eraserhead stood there in shock as all his injuries started to heal like they never happened in the first place. Without thinking twice, instead of erasing it, he grabbed Nighteye's hand placing it on Eri.
Lemillion was the one who saw the problem. The spike was still in Nighteye. They didn't know the extent of her quirk. They didn't even know what her quirk was.
Lemillion felt it in his gut and pulled the spike that was gouged into half of Nighteye's stomach out.
Everyone knew never to pull out an embedding object because they would die from blood loss, but this time was different. Her quirk only got stronger as the death blow on Nighteye started to heal.
"How, how is this possible?" Nighteye looked down at himself barely bleeding now, still being healed, "This is not the future I've seen."
Eri was completely out of it. Her eyes had rolled into the back of her head as her quirk amplified.
"Cursed'id child! What do you think you are doing?" Overhaul had changed himself into a monster. He had taken the matter around him including two of his men. He was now bigger, bat-shaped.
Overhaul moved towards Izuku like a bat would, on all fours. Izuku was in-between Overhaul and the heroes. He clutched his arm; blood blocking his vision in one of his eyes.
Izuku took a step toward Overhaul.
The heroes had seen how Eri healed Nighteye. They had gathered around her, and all of their injuries were healed.
Eri had passed out when Eraserhead erased her quirk. She was now in the hands of a different hero as Eraserhead geared up for battle.
"F-Father we don't need her."
Overhaul was beyond reasoning and Izuku knew it.
Izuku was beyond scared. If overhaul got Eri back he would kill her. What was he thinking? How could the heroes ever save her? If only he was dead the heroes would have saved her by now.
His vision started going in and out as his breathing quickened.
Black lighting flickered around Izuku.
Everyone in the area was experiencing a phenomenon. Some of the heroes' quirks started activating uncontrollably, others fell to the ground.
Two people acted immediately. Eraserhead, whose quirk wouldn't deactivate, and Overhaul who Izuku never harmed with his quirk.
Overhaul's hand was reaching towards Izuku, while Eraser shot his scarf at him.
The heroes and villains started collapsing under immense pain. Some of their body parts bending in unspeakable ways.
Eraserheads arm snapped making the scarf miss along with a scream from his lips.
Overhaul's hand was inches away when he whispered, "You're right, I don't think we need Eri."
Something else snapped in Izuku. Overhaul wasn't going to let her go. How could he ever think the Heroes could save him?
He glanced over at Eri who had been dropped. She was lying unconscious; helpless. While the Hero who had been holding her writhed in pain as his leg started bending.
In a blink of an eye, the ground underneath her changed. The earth pierced through her stomach as blood sprayed everywhere.
A laugh escaped Overhaul's lips, "Your right! We only need you."
Right there and then in another blink of an eye, Izuku's black lighten brushed by Overhaul making him explode back into three people.
In the breath, before Eraserhead could look Izuku in the eye's Overhauls hand landed on Izuku. Before the detail of Overhaul's quirk not working dawned on him, his neck snapped in half.
The last thing Izuku saw was Eraserhead's red eyes.
